Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel

Riggo's Rag article suggests Johnson's non-interview with Washington was down to the fact he was insisting he would keep Sam as #1 QB. AP was going to draft JD so decided it wouldn't work before the interview and turned the plane around. Good job too!

Wonder if Johnson has learned a lesson from that?

In other news Saleh and Frazier interviewing with Dallas. I'd be surprised if Saleh goes there, I see him more of a fit for Jax (possibly Raiders). I'd expect Frazier to get the job unless he fluffs the interview.

Vegas may interested in Ben Johnson and the Girls may be interested in Witten. Witten or Moore make sense in Dallas honestly as long as they're subservient enough to Jerry is going to be his biggest requirement. He'll find some poor soul soon.

Saleh and Frazer were Rooney rule requirements.

My bet is Moore is the coach and Whitten is on the staff, to be the future head coach.

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel

If we win on Sunday, history will be made. From 4-13 to 15-5 and appearing in the Superbowl. Even more history if we go 16-5 and win the Superbowl. Also, with a rookie QB.

Can you imagine the raised expectations from other owners on their head coaches and gms? If the Commanders can go from having the 2nd pick in the draft; to getting to or winning a Superbowl than why can’t my team? Gms will be expected to draft & sign in free agency, the players to do it. Coaches will be expected to coach those players to the Superbowl in one year.

Let's temper that enthusiasm just a little. We're in almost the same position as the Lions last year. Now 2 years in a row they 'should' have gone to the big one. Not saying they took us for granted, Campbell's not an idiot. But we don't want to get ahead of ourselves then find we're perennial bridesmaids. Let's see if AP can build sustained success then ride that train like the chiefs have been. Andy Reid's mentality always seems to be let's get there first, and he's not wrong.

I’d love to know whether Campbell told Johnson to run the damn ball. If he didn’t, I might have to disagree with the idiot comment. Such bad playcalling.

I was thinking more to their approach to the game than teh in game decisions, but good point. Whether he did or didn't he SHOULD have. So, yeah, maybe he is an idiot?

Johnson strikes me as a guy who isn't taking orders at all. I imagine he he has full autonomy in playcalling thankfully after last night. He has been coveted for a head coach for multiple years and has resisted. He's either scared or complacent. He did himself no favors last night. He struck me as designing good plays but calling bad ones and too much trick bs.

Hard for me to see Johnson as a team leader while continuing to burnish his reputation as the Einstein of modern NFL offense. There’s a simple mindedness that coaches need as leaders (“let’s run through this brick wall together”) that I just don’t see in Johnson. He loves the cerebral complexity of it all too much.

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel

Some guys are built to be HC's, some guys are built to be coordinators and some guys are built to be out of the NFL (EB & RR).

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel

Probably see a couple of openings filled this week; especially with the Lions coordinators free to interview now.

Ben Johnson to the Bears:

Glenn is also being courted and may be gone soon also.

I can see Glenn going to the Raiders or maybe Saints. I can see Johnson crashing and burning.

Kinda surprised he chose Bears and did so that quickly.
