Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
It was. It is also smart because it gives players rest. A 17 game schedule and normal training camp brutal enough. If guys come in generally in shape and pick up things quick, you're only helping yourself resting them when you take the long view.

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
Ok, keep in mind I'm a fan of WJ3's signing (see my previous posts) he is great at coverage, his man press is outstanding and you see him making solid pattern matching in zone.
But there seems to be a pattern of not being a fan of frontal contact. Was willing to give him a pass on week 1, first real live contact after shoulder injury, but week 5 against the Ravens you can still clearly see he wants no part of tackling a guy running at him. He still had a really good game, I don't even think he was targeted once, he had airtight coverage all game. Just be ready for a couple of infuriating business decisions every know and then, as he doesn't seem to love taking frontal hits. Ok, he has outside contain... but does he need to have 2 yards outside the field contain? Clear path to the ball carrier, wants no part of it: Really, that's your best effort ? Not necessarily asking for a perfect block shed and TFL, but a legit tackle attempt when the runner is past your blocker ? This one is comical to me. Just a body language thing. Granted it has no effect on the play, and he would have never been the one making the tackle anyway. But just look at the whole D reading run, WJ3 staring at the ball carrier and still back pedaling while everyone else is converging to the ball. The line is clearly run blocking, his guy is clearly coming at him to block, the QB is 15 yards from the RB and not faking anything and he is still back pedaling. It's ok man, you're safe...

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
WJ3 is a damn good press man guy, you can use him in so many ways. Great signing

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
Yeah he is impressive in man press. But it also shows in zone cause he has his responsibility but he's actually covering the guys in his zone very well, he's never covering air.

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
Still doubting his drive to succeed?
He's always been pretty jacked but he looks like a monster now.

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
On the last play (comical one) i would actually praise him for that. Didn't happen on this play, but that is how reverses and flea flickers are prevented from happening. If opponents see tape of him biting on the run they will surely send some reverses, or other tricks to take advantage of it.

There's a world between biting too early (and giving reasons to future opponents to call trick plays) and back pedaling several seconds after it has become clear it's a plain run. Again, great signing, great addition. Just saying he's not gonna make plays against the run and it might create some frustrating situations, like conceding a 3rd and 9 on an outside run. That's something guys like Kyle Fuller or Moreland at very good at.

I don't think anybody has every questioned Tebow's drive or ability to lift heavy weights and put them down.

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
That's actually 2 full games where he consistently was not going for any kind of frontal contact and consistently looked hesitant when he was in position to make the tackle.
Granted, not a full season, not his full career, can't tell how much of it is coaching, but that's something to keep an eye on, and from what I saw so far that's the only knock on him.

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
I don't know how my posts come off. I'm a fan of this signing. I'm just saying on 2 games, the only knock I saw was he looked kinda of hesitant to go make a play on the ball carrier.

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
Right....but it’s hard to state it as a rock solid fact like you do when you don’t necessarily know who was supposed to be doing what on any given play. Also looking at two games when the guy has played several years may not be an accurate sample size. For all we know he had a bum shoulder or something in those games and they told him to lay off heavy contact. 🤷*♂️ By all accounts we got a really good player, so I wouldn’t sweat it just yet.
