This doesn't include what we had to give up to get some of these guys

Some examples:

1st, 3rd, and 4th for Campbell (swap of 1st rounders)

3rd and 4th for Lloyd

3rd for Duckett

2nd and 6th for Jason Taylor

Two 2nds and a 6th for Rocky McIntosh (swapped one of the 2nds)
I'm pretty sure there was also a 4th rounder thrown in for Duckett. There was the 7th round pick for Erasmus James last year. Though it was in 2004, outside of this particular sample, Chris Cooley was also a two-fer.

Its truly pathetic how they disregard the draft this much........this is not to mention the poor decisions to hire spurrier and Zorn

We're also only looking at the Redskins here. We're certainly not the only team to make serious gaffes when it comes to the draft. Even the most respected franchises do. But our issue is with limited picks we have a much smaller margin for error

Nice research Warrior. Could we have gotten any less value out of a 10 player draft than we did in '08? The one O-lineman we did pick was a reach, selecting a division 1-AA guy (Rinehart). Also notable, but rarely mentioned anymore, but Joe Gibbs was our team President with the final say on personnel when MANY of these terrible decisions were made. If we're willing to bash Snyderato, then Gibbs deserves his share too. Letting Ryan Clark walk for peanuts while shelling out record money for Archuletta might have been the worst moves under Gibbs, but trading two 3's and two 4's for B. Lloyd and Duckett are almost as egregious since those 4 picks could have been used to address O-line depth.

Yeah, I said this somewhere else, but with Gibbs, it was 'win right now' and to hell with the future. It's a big role of the dice, because if you're wrong, and the high-priced, cap-eating free agents that are often paid for with draft picks don't get you a championship, your team will be set even further back.

I know what you are saying is true, but our percentage for players drafted, and FA's still on the roster (and playing) after X number of years is.........low.
In any given situation that is problematic, you look for the area to correct as the "worst first" to make the most positive impact toward correcting the whole.
THIS is the Holy Grail of "worst first"............

I would give it a D+....the big factors is you have to remember the god-aweful contracts to some of these players and the already talked about draft picks we gave up to get players or move up in the draft to get average players. The free agents decisions really burn my a$$. Only 2 draft picks on OL makes me physically ill to think about. The only way to end this cycle of pathetic decisions is to fire the guy making them. Vinny/Snyder has dragged this franchise through the mud and it is just ashame. Riggo is Right. That the signs people need to bring to the stadium this weekend: Riggo is Right.

We have all our picks but the 3rd for Jarmon next year correct? I say tear down and rebuild i didn't want to before just being the optimistic fan "Be patient change will come " kind of guy. But reality is under the current structure, personnel, and leadership we won't win anything but 4th place in the NFC Beast.

In 05 we gave up Champ Bailey, a future Hall of Fame cornerback, plus a 2nd round draft choice for Clinton Portis, who is aging fast. Also, we should have kept Antonio Pierce and Ryan Clark. They went to the New Your Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers respectively where they got Super Bowl rings!

Also, did we know that Albert Haynesworth was a part-time player who looks vastly out of shape? How does our defensive line compare with last year's where we had Demetric Evans with this year's line without Evans but with Albert Haynesworth (when he plays)?

Veteran Additions:
QB Mark Brunell, RB Clinton Portis, OL Ray Brown, C Cory Raymer, HB/TE Brian Kozlowski, Walter Rasby, TE Fred Baxter

Draft Picks:
CB Carlos Rogers, QB Jason Campbell, RB Manuel White, LB Robert McCune, LB Jared Newberry, RB Nehemiah Broughton

Offseason Losses:
I couldn't find much about this year losses
All of those veteran additions were from 2004. In 2005, we traded Coles for Moss, and picked up David Patten and Casey Rabach. There could have been a couple other random guys in there too, but I don't remember. The only other guy I remember us losing that year besides Coles and Gardner was Mike Barrow, who we signed the year before and got hurt.

Re: Review the Redskins Personnel Moves from 2005-2009

I know I'll catch some grief but Mark Brunell cost this organization alot. Had we gone after an above average QB I still feel like that 2005 team could have been special. He couldn't throw the ball downfield though or JG's didn't want him too. At least he was efficient in the RZ though.

Trading away draft picks is obviously a biggie too. That means we have less margin for error as was mentioned.

Trading multiple picks for JC hurt obviously. I could go on and on.

Good research Warrior....What an inordinate number of players involved in trades, FA and the draft that are no longer playing and/or out of the league completely in such a relatively short period of time. It's amazing the thought of what we could have done with some of those DP and how they could have helped shape our roster today. Looking at your analysis it's very easy to see the error of our ways.

I wonder if other teams have the same ratio as we do in draft picks that actually pan out or make a quickly contribution to the team. Only 16 out of 34 draft picks have actually contributed in actually gameplay at there positions on Sunday's. Is that bad, average, good or what?
