Dolphins | Team to visit with Maddox
Sun, 19 Mar 2006 19:01:05 -0800

Jason Cole, of the Miami Herald, reports the Miami Dolphins will visit with free agent QB Tommy Maddox (Steelers) Tuesday, March 21. Agent Vann McElroy said Maddox has also received interest from Oakland and Cincinnati, but the Dolphins situation may be the most intriguing because Mike Mularkey is now the offensive coordinator.

Bears | Team begins Griese visit
Sun, 19 Mar 2006 21:01:42 -0800

John Mullin and K.C. Johnson, of the Chicago Tribune, report the Chicago Bears began their visit with free agent QB Brian Griese (Buccaneers) Sunday, March 19. The visit is expected to continue into Monday, March 20. Griese has maintained he will be healthy by training camp as he recovers from last season's knee injury. The Bears are looking to sign a veteran quarterback likely to supplant QB Kyle Orton as the backup and for insurance should starting QB Rex Grossman suffer another injury. Griese's best option may be a one-year deal that allows him to demonstrate his recovery and possibly play his way into another long-term deal beginning in 2007.

Bengals | Team expected to contact Griese's agent Monday
Sun, 19 Mar 2006 21:27:03 -0800

John Mullin and K.C. Johnson, of the Chicago Tribune, report the Cincinnati Bengals visited with free agent QB Brian Griese (Buccaneers), but he left without a contract offer. However, a source said the Bengals intend to contact Ralph Cindrich, Griese's agent, Monday morning, March 20, indicating they're not conceding he will sign with the Chicago Bears.

Here is my prediction.... Ramsey has learned more from Gibbs in the last couple of years than he did his whole time with Spurrier. He will be given a shot in NY and will replace Pennigton as the starter before too long. Harrington is a joke. I think Harrington has had more talent arround him that Ramsey ever did, but could not make it as a starting QB.

Vikings | Childress had thoughts of Owens in dealing with Culpepper
Mon, 20 Mar 2006 14:21:17 -0800

John Shipley, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress said he heard enough from former QB Daunte Culpepper to know that he did not want to be with the Vikings and that the feeling was mutual. Childress had plenty of background experience having to deal with WR Terrell Owens for the last two seasons. In his first public appearance in the Twin Cities, Childress told a St. Paul Chamber of Commerce luncheon crowd he didn't like what he heard from Culpepper during the few conversations they have had since Childress was hired Jan. 5. Childress was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in Philadelphia the past seven seasons, the last two with Owens, whose egocentric, and eccentric, behavior ultimately became such a headache that his prodigious talent was deemed not worth it.

Two sources said he was ready to return to take part in the team's offseason conditioning program, but head coach Rod Marinelli decided to move in a different direction. Harrington is expected to return from vacation and talk to team president Matt Millen late this week, two other sources said. The Lions have almost three months to make a move with Harrington. He is due a $4 million roster bonus June 15.

That's 3 pretty decent young QBs on one team. I'm a big Griese fan, surprised he hasn't been able to just stick with one team. Grossman shows a lot of promise but just can't stay healthy. And Orton is clearly the weakest but put all the right pieces around him and he did ok

McMahon's very good, kinda like Patrick Ramsey for us.

Anyone would have lost a majority of games with the team he was playing with last year (no westbrook, 3 starters out on line, no TO), including McNabb.

He got replaced because of contract size, mainly. Harrington was destined to play.

And...it's Detroit...it's because they keep making moves like Harrington (everything about him, drafting him, starting him, not benching him) that they have won as many games as they have over the past 5 years.

Lions | Millen supports moving on without Harrington; trying to trade him
Mon, 27 Mar 2006 05:57:50 -0800

The Detroit Free Press reports in his first comments since head coach Rod Marinelli declared the Detroit Lions were moving on at quarterback without QB Joey Harrington; team president Matt Millen expressed a mixture of resignation and regret. "Nothing you can do about it," Millen said. "He's not the first one that didn't work and probably won't be the last. So we have to make what we have work. That's what we've got to do." Millen is trying to trade Harrington, and there is interest in Harrington around the league. But Harrington's contract is an obstacle. Harrington is due a $4 million roster bonus June 15 and his salary is $4.45 million this year and next. Harrington needs to reduce his salary for a trade to work. Apparently Harrington's agent, David Dunn, isn't cooperating. He has been asking teams for about what Harrington is making now.

Chiefs | Team remains interested in Harrington
Mon, 27 Mar 2006 06:37:11 -0800

Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs president/general manager Carl Peterson said the Chiefs remain interested in Detroit Lions QB Joey Harrington. Peterson and Lions' team president Matt Millen are expected to talk about Harrington at the NFL owner's meetings this week. The Chiefs appear interested enough that they would give the Lions a choice in the first three rounds of next month's draft if they can work out details of a new contract with Harrington and his agent.

Dolphins | Team calls about Harrington
Mon, 27 Mar 2006 06:17:04 -0800

Armando Salguero and Jason Cole, of the Miami Herald, report the Miami Dolphins have called the agent for Detroit Lions QB Joey Harrington to express their interest in acquiring Harrington. A source said Miami officials called agent David Dunn to gauge Harrington's availability should the Lions waive Harrington before June 15 when he is due a $4.5 million bonus. It is likely the Dolphins and Lions will talk about Harrington's availability this week at the NFL annual meeting.

ferotte throws a few less INTs per TD, but collins puts up LOTS more yards... its not like he had the greatest WR cast in NY, and he isn't a career backup either.

your point is somewhat supported by the time collins has been on the FA market without interest though. I don't think his arm was strong enough to max out on randy last year :/

I'm focusing on the offensive efficency though. Collins had Moss, Porter, LaMont Jordan, and a decent O-Line, and put up 310 points (the cards put up 311) and lost 11 games. Frerotte had Chambers, Michmichael, and Ronnie Brown/Pot Head, and a far worse O-line, put up 318 pts, and won 9 games. That's why hes better.

Oh, and Frerotte didn't hit Lemar Marshall in stride.
