Re: Sportsline Power Rankings
It will be a battle in the division this year. I think the media really just uses the same storylines for the Skins each year, without really paying attention to what we're doing.
Honestly, I hope everyone predicts us to finish last in the division. It'll make it that much sweeter when we win it anyway.
I agree. Let's fly below the radar again this year and surprise everyone again. Who cares what idiots like the writer on Sportsline think? It will be fun to discredit the fool, though. |
Re: Sportsline Power Rankings
Anyone could have easily critisized our signings in 04', yet those are our core guys...our coaching staff has a way of bringing out the best in forgotten (underachived) players. He's a moron...his rankings are so off and unsupported that I wouldn't be suprised if he picked Florida to win...LOL
Ask any other team in the league who'd they rather play from the NFC East with playoffs implications and I guarantee you that the Skins wont be at the top of that list...thats what matters we're starting to get respect around the league...other teams know, what's it going to take for this idiot to know. |
Re: Sportsline Power Rankings
Let's be realistic about next year. The Skins were one of the final 4 teams left in the NFC. I don't think any of those final 4 teams (Seattle, Chicago, Carolina, and Washington) took a step back so far going in to 06. However, I do think the Skins have taken a step forward with their recent signings. If you think Carolina took a step forward signing Keyshawn, then maybe they have helped themselves as well. I also think that the Skins took several of the FAs that Chicago wanted and they were a final 4 team. Based on last year and our signings we should be predicted to be either 1st or second in the division and maybe even predicted to make the NFC Championship game. Beyond that is anyone's guess, but these guys theat have us taking a step back are just foolish.

Re: Sportsline Power Rankings
We have bad coaches, apparently, who can't develop talent or utilize the resources on hand. They signed these guys for all this money on a dare made during a Texas Hold 'Em game over at Joe Bugel's house. I mean really, what have Joe Gibbs, Greg Williams and Al Saunders really accomplished anyway that would warrant an acknowledgement that they know what they are doing when it comes to personnel decisions?

Carolina signed some others that should help too, but they also lost witherspoon. Seattle hasn't seemed to draw any comparisons to us YET, but w/what Allen spent on Burleson & Peterson, not to mention Alexander, if they don't at least get to the super bowl again it will be disappointing to their fans & maybe viewed as a failure by the press. I agree, the Bears didn't do a lot but they did sign Griese, he may turn out to be their starting qb. We should be competitive again, but a no. of NFC teams improved, watch out for Atl. Tampa Bay too. Plus our division improved, it will be tough to sweep anybody. If we win the division, we might be as good as anybody. |
Re: Sportsline Power Rankings
The great thing about the NFL is that no one really knows what is going to happen, since everything in the offseason is based on last year and "predictions." I don't know where "Frisco" Pete Prisco is pulling his predictions from, I'm guessing it rhymes with pass, but this guy is just an idiot.
To say that we signed a tight end who won't scare anyone down the field, I mean what team is he talking about? Isn't that the role currently occupied by H-back extraordinaire Chris Cooley? It's clear to me that he has no idea what our team needs are, which anyone who saw the playoff game versus Seattle could plainly see. We need a pass rushing defensive end (Carter, check), an upgrade at #2 wideout (Lloyd and Randle-El, check) and a blocking tight end with good hands to catch the short routes that Royal couldn't (Fauria, check). I mean he's got the Jaguars above us, so clearly he's using the Frisco Pete method of ranking teams. No skin off my back though. |
Re: Sportsline Power Rankings
We heard the same crap from the naysayers when we signed guys like Moss, Griffin, and Springs.
Those guys are now cornerstones of the team, when are jerks like Prisco going to open their eyes and realize this is not the 2000 Redskins anymore. The past few seasons under Gibbs they have made some really stellar free agent moves. Whether or not they overpaid isn't what's being debated here, but what can't be debated is the fact Gibbs and company have radically overhauled the roster and infused it with talent, youth and playmakers. And these are all guys that are hungry to win, have great work ethics, and will run through walls for Gibbs and this staff. F Prisco and F all the mediots that love to hate. |
Re: Sportsline Power Rankings
Here's my take on it:
As a complete team, I think the Skins win. Their one POTENTIAL weakness is Brunnell/QB Position. If this machine were being run by McNabb, Brady or Hasselback, then it would be "book your flights to Detroit guys". As it is, Brunnell may have enough gas in the tank to get us there, but I don't think it's a given. As for the rest of the NFC East, I just see too many holes. I think the window has closed on Phil., they are older and a bit slower. I don't think their FA additions go all that far towards improvement. IMO McNabb is now damaged goods in that locker and perhaps the team has lost some of its focus. As for NYG, I think last year was a fluke and that this year they sink in the W/L column - again, Tiki is getting up there and he IS the motor that drives that offense. I don't think Eli's got "it" - I'll believe it when I see it, but I think he will be an average QB. As for Dallas, I just dunno - I think your O-line is still gonna be a problem. Also, similar to us, you have an old, somewhat fragile, QB and, IMO, your back up situation is worse than ours (yes, my rose colored Campbell glasses are firmly in place). Skins Cowboys (Maybe Wildcard if O-Line protects Bledsoe and opens some holes) Phil (7-9 to 9-7) NYG (no more than 7 wins) If anyone wants to the supporting data for my conclusions, I am afraid that I am relying on the super secret stats used only by professionals and, if I were to reveal them to you, I would have to kill you. |
Re: Sportsline Power Rankings
I'm not saying they'll drop out of the playoffs. But right now the Colts don't have someone that can fill EJ's shoes. I think because of all the records Manning put up, Edge was really overlooked. But the team was at its best when he was healthy and producing. So I think right now, #2 is too high for Indy.
|
Re: Sportsline Power Rankings
I agree. Elite backs are what opened up that passing game.
And JoeRedskin, I agree with your analysis, but I really don't see the Cowboys being second in the division. I think the Giants will be right behind us. Eli definitely doesn't have IT, and Tiki will be a force again next year, but I don't think they are worse than the Eagles or Cowboys. |
Re: Sportsline Power Rankings
Tsk, tsk, tsk. So quick to take the Skins signings for granted. I respect your opinion about what you THINK are our best signings, however you have overlooked the best one IMO (Andre Carter).
As for TO, he does make the offense better, but the Cowboys still suffer from one fatal flaw, Drew Bledsoe. He's got a helluva arm, but I'll take my chances that we can get to him before he can get the ball to TO. And last I checked Terry Glenn is still on the other side, oooh real scary. Meanwhile, at Redskin Park we've also got a bona fide playmaker at #1, Santana Moss. And now we have other options at wideout that will free up Moss and also Portis. Uh oh, its pick your poison. Put eight in the box and leave Moss one on one with Terrence Newman? Play coverage and watch Portis run wild? .
I didn't overlooked on Carter I'm just not sold on him he hasn't lived to his hipe that's all let's see if he plays better in a different system for me your best adittion are your wr that was your biggest hole Lloyd and Randall wil lgive another dimmensio nto your offense. About your comments on T. Glenn man he's way better than Lloyd and Randall combined he's a bigger treath you're just blinded by the TD randall made at the superbowl but he only had 35 catches being the #2 receiver last season, Even Lloyd being the #1 receiver in SF never came close to Glenns numbers. Actually we have verry similar offenses we have 2 great receiver corps with playmakers in each side Moss, TO we have 2 other capable reciever Randall, Lloyd- Glenn, Crayton, pro bowl TE Witten and Cooley, great RB Portis, JJ and Barber. and Good but old qbs Brunell and Bledsoe. The biggest difference I see is that we play a more control prevent offense and with saulder I see a more agressive 1 we will just have to waith and see how it ends. |

On our subject e have made improvements at our Oline but I agree with you that our future will be determine on how those guys complement each other. The only thing that might keep both of our teams out of the big dance is our QB we just have to see ho much gas they have left at the end of the year because last year they both fell on their back the last 3 games (including Playoffs) your D was the one that kept you in not your Qb. so our future it's also held to our QB's. |

Re: Sportsline Power Rankings
The Niners not wanting to keep Lloyd probably says more about where they are (deeep in the bottom) than about Lloyd.
And what does it matter if Randle El is #2 or #3? He's a playmaker who's a legit threat to score every time he touches the ball. And he could do it running, catching, or passing. |
Re: Sportsline Power Rankings
My main problem with this ranking is that the guy thinks we got worse somehow during the offseason. We lost LaVar, yes, and that is a crucial loss, but we upgraded (and overpayed imo) at Saftey, Wide Reciver, and on the defensive line. Our depth at offensive line is now better as well, which could be vital if we suffer a crucial injury, like that of Randy Thomas. The only position I think you can argue we got substancialy worse at (OLB is still a wildcard at this point), is tight end, and thats only because I havent seen much of Christian Furia. I liked Royal a lot, but he wasent an all-star or anything and we might even have improved there.
Overall I just dont see how, given current offseason moves the Cowboys and Eagles suddenly became better than we did. I'm very confident that the additions of Randel El and Lloyd will make just as big of an impact as T.O. on the Cowboys. Thats not to say they are better than he is, but in terms of gameplan and winning games, I think that is offset. The Eagles, I just dont think are very good anymore, bottom line. I still think the Giants are a solid football team and I'll listen to the argument they are better, hell I'll even listen to the argument that Dallas could be better, but not in the ways that this guy is describing it. |

Don't get me wrong he's a versatil player and as a PR specialist is a verry good adition but as a wr he's just average. It's a better version of Dante Hall that's it and that's why I believe you got him Sauders may have some relly good missmatchs planed with this guy. Again I believe your team upgraded it self in the offseason you covered the mayority of your holes (I just see OLB, CB, and Oline you had trouble last year when samuels went down because you don't have good backups). And I see your team in the Playoffs if everything goes paper wise the only thing that I have a problems is Brunnel he flat out came out empty in the last couple of games he just didn't had anything left in his tank I believe o ucan have a verry explosive offense because of the talent added and the system your coaches use. |

Maybe Lloyd was dealt because he was unhappy with his deal and instead of letting him go for nothing the 49ers decided to trade him and get something? It's a thought. Randle El was a #2 in Pittsburgh, he got 35 catches and the starting tight end got 39. We've already determined that the Steelers were a run first, run second and run third team. You said they only had 20 more rushing attempts than the Boys, but the Boys had 121 more passing attempts. Could that explain the 35 catches the #2 receiver had in Pittsburgh? Or maybe your point, he's not a #2 is valid. We shall see. Pittsburgh was cheap because Pittsburgh is, was and probably will remain CHEAP. Hines Ward, the SB XL MVP, had to hold out to get a new deal. Why? He's led the team in receiving the past few years, according to you they didn't even have a #2 guy since Randle El is more of a PR-WR reverse pass guy, so why the need for him to hold out to get a fair deal? They are cheap in Pittsburgh, it works for them. They build their team through the draft. Does it mean that Randle El can't play, or the Steelers won't pay? Hmmm. |
A treath every time he touches the ball last year he had 4 td 1 receiving, 1 trowing and 2 in punt returns.
Randle El as a PR specialist. Didn't I hear the same thing about Moss last year? And wasn't Steve Smith a PR specialist before he turned into Mr. Uncoverable? Your argument is weak in that it assumes that Randle El and Lloyd have peaked, that what they've done so far in three seasons is all they can do. TO is 32, and while TO is an amazing athlete and wideout and going to be a bona fide threat, his best season was in '01 when he was 28. Randle El is 27, Lloyd is 24. See where I'm going? I'll take you there for fear that you'll get lost. Young receivers get better, older receivers not so much. TO is better now, but will his groin hold up for two more years? I see the Cowboys as now possessing a deep threat that will open up the run some. I don't see Parcells changing his philosophy now. And you said something about Brunell's performance in the playoffs. I think it had more to do with the knee injury he sustained late in the year versus the Giants than with him not having anything left in the tank. If Bledsoe can still perform, why can't Brunell? Aren't they both 14 year vets? Are Brunell's years dog years for some reason? |
Re: Sportsline Power Rankings
God I'm getting bored with this subject ok the difference between the Keyshawn cut and the Lloyd trade is that Dallas had allready a contract in principle with TO when they kut KJ that's why they cut him after Phi cut TO in the case of Lloyd he was traded way before SF had an option they wated 3 weeks before they sign Bryant, Randall el and Branch got contracts before Bryant did.
That's because he wasn't their first option. but really what are we still talking about this subject I'm not saying they were bad pic ups I' ve allways have said that you over paid but that's nothing new with your franchise and that Randall-el will not be a #2 receiver I see more potential in Lloyd on becoming the #2 than Randall, he's just a gimmic distraction type of wr. This 2 guys will give teams missmatches and has made your offense more explosive. |
