Re: Kurt Warner to Miss Skins Game
80.3 is solid, but I wouldn't call it good. If he were a starter at this point in the season, he'd be the 19th-20th rated passer. And I'm not saying that he completely sucks, but being thrown into the mix with a week to build some kind of chemistry with the receivers AND prepare for the Redskins defense should definitely be considered, Advantage: Redskins.
Unless we're still reeling from the Green Bay loss, we should rattle the hell out of this guy. |
But it looks like Arizona DID pick up on it, to turn your own arugment against you.
Why is this the Ramsey treatment? Ramsey wasn't the only player to ever get the short end of the stick, in fact I thought he got a relatively decent shot to show improvement here. It's my hope that with a top 5 passing defense we can shut the Cards down, and should logically be able to. But this year we've played a 38 year old Trent Green, McNabb, Eli, Kitna, and a 38 year old Favre. Rattay is certainly better than elderly Green and Kitna, and based on what McNabb has done this year...him too. The only QB we struggled with was Eli, so Rattay's probably not good enough to toss 350 and 6 TD's on us, but its a good signing by Arizona, and it is another challenge for us. We have shut down good QBs this year, but this arugment that we should have no problem whatsoever this week is a little bit blind faith and very much uninformed. At the end of the day, we are still 4th in total defense, but are you expecting this to be a season in which we set many defensive records. Eli showed that we could be had by a QB who was not elite...so I would ask us not to get too overconfident, even if there is good reason to feel safe.
What exactly did Arizona pick up on?? C'mon they were desperate and he was the best name out there. I called it the Ramsey treatment because some like to think that he's still this hidden gem that only needs a chance to prove himself, when in reality he's had his chances and has failed to do so and that's why he's a backup. Hey I agree that Rattay is a decent backup, I just argue that the fact that he's "good" but again it depends on your definition of that word relative to a QB. |
Um, no.
Joey Harrington has a career rating of 69.1. His rating this year is 80.3, but thats over 6 games and you can't just use that number as if its classic Joey Harrington. Classic Harrington is 69.1, way worse than 80.3.
I was referring to this season, not career wise. |
Re: Kurt Warner to Miss Skins Game
Just for comparison...
Cards D: 16th RUN, 17th PASS, 15th OVERALL Cards O: 17th RUN, 13th PASS, 17th OVERALL Skins D: 6th RUN, 5th PASS, 3rd OVERALL Skins O: 14th RUN, 18th PASS, 16th OVERALL |

This is an average Joe with some respectable stats - that's it. Like I said earlier, he's capable of playing like Peyton Manning this Sunday, but it's certainly not anything anyone should be expecting at this point. The guy was at home watching NFL Network two weeks ago, and he get's called near the mid point of the season. And I'll bet the longer he plays this year, the lower that QB rating drops. At this point, he what he is. |
Re: Kurt Warner to Miss Skins Game
I think Jacksonville and Pittsburgh are better than us right now also.
But look at the NFC. The Bears are terrible, Minnesota is incredibly unbalanced, the 49ers have underachieved, the Seahawks have underachieved, we already beat Philadelphia pretty good this year. We just dominated the Packers offense and clearly outplayed them on the other side of the ball. They are widely regarded as the second best team in the conference, and we just went in and made them look awful. Dallas, who is widely regarded as the best team in the NFC, looked terrible in Buffalo two weeks ago and got embarrassed on their home turf this week by a clearly better team. The only team in the NFC that can say they are better than us right now has to be the New York Giants, who beat us pretty good at home. Even with them, at the end of the year, do you really think they will be playing better than us? I don't think they will They are right now...but so? Nobody can defend our passing game right now and nobody can move the ball on us. Yes, we still have to get some kinks in the offense ironed out before we are an elite team, but I have been pleasantly surprised this year. I didn't think going in that our defense would be absolutely shut down and I didn't think our passing game would make some of the league's better pass D's look irrelivant out there. Despite some tough losses, how can one not be encouraged? I'd rank us 6th in the league right now based on what I've seen.
I would say Dallas and NYG are a little better than everyone else in the NFC. Then there are a bunch of teams that are all bunched together. Wash, Minn, Seattle, Phi, GB, TB, Chi and Car are all real close. Say what you want about Minn but they went into Chi and won on the road w/ a terrible QB. That's a good win no matter how you look at it. Anytime a runner goes for over 200 on a good defense you have to tip your hat. I am encouraged but we have to stop dropping passes and score more TD's. |

Because he wasn't an elite quarterback as a 4th year player on one of the worst teams in history? You leave it in context and what he has accomplised is actually pretty impressive given his leaguewide value. We could have had him in here this offseason for near league min value, and he's about 3 times the QB Todd Collins is. Now we have to play against him. I'd like to go into this week already knowing we are going to have the W, but all I can do is hope our D keeps it up. If they don't we could be 3-3 come Monday. |

Thus the total lack of balance on that team. There's a lot of good teams in the NFC, but few have made opponents look as helpless to control their own destiny as we have. |

If that were the case he would be a starter. I think Rattay is a solid back-up, just like Collins. No more, no less. |

Whooooaaaaa Cowboy. I'm not saying this week will be no problem whatsoever, but our D should get a break considering the compared cometition to this point. We still have to score. |
Re: Kurt Warner to Miss Skins Game
I haven't seen someone all over a QBs jock like this since I watched pregame coverage of the Cowboys / Patriots game last week.

Re: Kurt Warner to Miss Skins Game
Rattay is the tourniquet on another withering Cards season. With Leinart and Warner out, this guy isn't going to do squat against the Skins secondary. Fitzgerald and Boldin are going to have to play the games of their career in order to do something against the likes of Springs, Rogers, Smoot, Taylor and Landry.
However, the one guy that does worry me, and that can bail out Rattay is Edgerrin James. 5th in the league (2nd in NFC thanks to Peterson's performance for the Vikes) in rushing. If he starts to have a good game, it will certainly open up the passing game. Rattay is what he is...a journeyman QB who's with his 3rd team in 3 years and has never played a full season, playing behind the likes of Jeff Garcia, Chris Simms, Bruce Gradkowski...not exactly superb company. The Skins just need to play their game, like they did against the Lions, and they will be fine. |

That doesn't fit into my definition of "good" when talking about NFL QB's, but like you said it's all about perception and our perceptions about this guy obviously differ. Considering the passing attacks we've already shut down, I'm not at all concerned about a passing game led by Tim Rattay with 2 weeks of prep on a new team, sorry I'm just not. If we lose this game it won't be because of the defense that's for sure. |

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but Cardinals signed Tim Hasselbeck (and cut Quentin Moses)

Not a bad move. They still don't have much to work with at the QB position. Our D SHOULD have another really good day. Let's hope the O-line can hold up, and our play makers can make some plays! I expect a BIG win. |
Re: Kurt Warner to Miss Skins Game
No matter who is QB for the Cardinals on Sunday they will beat us if we don't execute in all three phases of the game.

Re: Kurt Warner to Miss Skins Game
Looks like Warner is going to try to practice tomorrow. Doubt he'll play though

I can't believe what a BUST Moses was. I'm an SEC guy (Go Gators), and I've watched Moses for a while. I never thought he was that good, but I can't believe he was a first day pick and just got dropped. Unreal. As far as Warner is concerned, I wish him perfect health... after this Sunday. |
Re: Kurt Warner to Miss Skins Game
I hate to be cliche, but on any given sunday, any team can get it done. We must win this game whoever is their QB.
If we can't score but 14 points, even a journeyman backup or an aging, injured has-been can beat us, even with good D. But I do think if we play our game, they can't beat us. It's in our hands--let's hope the fire is there! Wonder where Moses will end up? Is he done? |
Re: Kurt Warner to Miss Skins Game
I mean, i'm really happy because when warner was in he was doing much better than leinart. Now they have their number 3 in which they recently signed. Good news.

Re: Kurt Warner to Miss Skins Game
I was actually a little scared of Warner with our CB's. I wish him a speedy return but not this week. Tim Rattay will not beat the Redskins. If he does consider our season over.
