Re: Are a we playoff team?
Here's the deal.
We will only make the playoffs if some other team screws up. The skins have not really been outplayed by anyone all year. In fact, they gave away 2 critical NFC games, NY and GB. You should not be a legitimate playoff team if you are giving games away. We are lucky when the Skins tried their very hardest to lose a third today but didn't. This is not a team that puts teams away with leads. Our 2nd half adjustments just plain suck offensively. What did we do with a lead these games?....you got it....we went into a shell and hoped the clock expired. We only won today because the cardinals coaching staffs were idoits on the 2 pt conversion... We are not a "winning" team. We basically only win when the other team "loses" the game. (except for Detroit) We are still a 7-9 team, 9-7 if we are lucky....get ready for some losses. Our offensive line just sucks....worst in years....I sure hope Randy Thomas gets his butt back sooner....either that or we need to make some serious changes on the right side of the line.
WTF was Wisenhunt thinking on that 2 point conversion?? What a dumb ass call. |
WTF was Wisenhunt thinking on that 2 point conversion?? What a dumb ass call.
I will take every mistake our competition gives us....since we are currently not strong enough to earn a win on our own merit. |
Re: Are a we playoff team?
No, we're not a playoff team with this offense. I honestly think Gibbs has a contract with NFL's Game of the Week because it seems as if they're intentionally making these games close. Excpect to see us on the show yet again....
I will take every mistake our competition gives us....since we are currently not strong enough to earn a win on our own merit.
No. We are not a play-off team. Our most obvious and important deficiency is play calling. |
Re: Are a we playoff team?
I gotta agree about the second half adjustments, or lack thereof. We go into the locker room with a lead and everyone's all, oh all we gotta do is let the clock run for another 30 minutes and we win! But the opponent goes into their locker room, and is all, they are doing this this and this correctly, lets fix those problems and force them to beat us in other ways, and then they come out and execute and we're just like, wtf? Why isn't it working anymore?
I know that's not really what happens but honestly that's what feels like is happening. Gibbs said at the end of the first half that he was happy with the team's play, the only negative was the pick by Calvin Pace. If I were the head coach I would've been extremely pissed about our team's play on offense in the entire first half. The moral of this game is, we won because of the turnovers. At least we can do something right for once, if this was 2006 we would've lost this game because we couldn't force turnovers worth a shit last year. Sean Taylor should be getting some serious props, he's leading the league in interceptions right now, but should one of the other players that have 4 interceptions get another one then he'll be tied. But who seriously would've thought that ST would be leading the league in picks right now? He's having easily his best season as a pro. |
Re: Are a we playoff team?
The Cardinals are a pretty good team. Look, I'd like to say that we made the plays when it counted...which was true up until the onside kick. After that play, we were lucky we didn't get a win stolen from us. Gregg Williams strategic playcalling in a unique situation was about as assinine as Saunders' playcalling is every third and short (three steps, throw quick to no one in particular).
I didn't think the Skins played especially bad today, but they didn't play especially well either. All you can say about the end of the game is that it was a crazy situation...and we ended up winning. We forced three turnovers and that is why we won today. No other reason. |
Re: Are a we playoff team?
We can't run, we can't throw and the only reason we're in games is because of the gutsy play of the D. Gibbs and Saunders should be ashamed of their terrible coaching performance...just terrible.
I'm not ready to write this team off just yet but with the NE next, I'm not really expecting much from the O which is a shame really because I think our D will do a fantastic job to keep us in the game. |
Re: Are a we playoff team?
Yes. Our defense alone makes us a playoff caliber team. Today the defense gave up a lot of yards, but they also nabbed 3 turnovers, including one for 7 points. The offense looked absolutely dreadful, but who cares when the defense is winning tight games? Right now, you can't say we are not a playoff caliber team unless you can name 6 NFC clubs that are better.
|
Re: Are a we playoff team?
At this point it doesn't matter. We need to keep playing our game and pull for a 10-6 season with atleast 4-2 in the division.
The cards are a good team with Warner. WIth leinart the sucked. Every time warner was put in they did well> They looked good with him at the end of the steelers game and the ravens game. Both of those were losses. To me they could easily be 5-1 going into this game. The lost their three games by a total of 13 points. We played a good team and won because our defense is sick and our defense will pull us to the playoffs in my opinion. |

You cant, Dallas nearly lost to the Bills and they are a really bad team, and right now there losing to minnesota. What kills me is that some people fail to realize last year we were 5-11, and this year were 4-2 and fans are complaining, come on guys. |

Do we look like a playoff team? NO
Will we make the Playoffs? Theres a good pssibility. At least we've kept ourselves in the race. Hopefully it stands true that "joe gibbs teams are good in Dec." |

Did you see how poorly the offensive line played today? What the hell is a coach supposed to do when guys are getting blown four yards into the backfield on a consistent basis? I know everyone thinks they could figure it out because they always make the right calls when they're playing Madden '08, but they need to at least get Rabach back because Pucillo just made things a lot worse today and Fabini is a MAJOR liability and Todd Wade is average at the very best. |
Re: Are a we playoff team?
4-2, yes we're in the hunt.
Still a long way to go. |
Re: Are a we playoff team?
I said in the prediction post the other day that this would be a much more difficult game than fans thought. These are not your father's Cards. They have several great players on the DLine as well as good LB's. Where are we weak? OL. Gibbs and Saunders did a great job of trying to hide just how weak the line is. If Rabach is healthy next week everyone will be using the inconsistent line but really with no holes and no protection the skill players cant do anything.
|
Re: Are a we playoff team?
well here's my thing...while the cards are not horrible by any means, we had them down and were in complete control of the game...and if fletcher doesn't do that f'ing stupid taunting, i really don't think this game ends up that close.
that being said, the playcalling is just bad. i realize our o-line is decimated, so why not use more screens, roll out passes, WR screens, quick slant passes...plays that get away from the lines protection. i just don't get this very vanilla conservative calling that doesn't produce any results. |

Let's give the Cards D some credit, they bottled things up pretty good all day. |
Re: Are a we playoff team?
I think we're a playoff team. The bad thing about that is it shows the lack of dominance any of the other NFC teams are showing. We can beat any NFC team out there. We can make the playoffs but we're not going to the Super Bowl.
|
Re: Are a we playoff team?
Are we a playoff team? Sure, we could be in it.
Before the year started I thought we'd end up 9-7. Having seen the D this year, I have upped it to 10-6, which shuld get us a wild card spot. We could even win that game (especially if we play the leader of the NFC east). After that, it is anybody's guess. Are we still rebuilding? Yes, but we are further along than I thought we'd be, given we have a QB who is still within his first 16 games of starts. J-Dawg. |

We are not a playoff caliber team right now. Our O-Line is decimated by injury and our coaching staff cannot make halftime adjustments, on both sides of the ball (which I don't understand this problem because Gibbs 1.0 was the master of halftime adjustments). Portis doesn't have any explosiveness, we do not have any physical threats at WR, (including Moss because he's not 100%) and Campbell will still make some young QB mistakes. I can't name six better teams, but I can name the 4 probable division winners and two wildcard teams that are better: Dallas, Green Bay, Tampa Bay, Seattle, then NY Giants & Carolina as wildcards. I don't believe Green Bay or Seattle are better, but someone has to win the NFC North and West. Here's how I see the rest of the season: Should be Wins: BUF & NYJ, Probable Losses: NE, Tampa Bay (in Tampa), Dallas (at Dallas), NYG (in NY, we haven't won there in the last 3 years). Could go either way: CHI, PHI, MIN, Dallas (at home). So before the games going either way we are 6 - 6, if we split we're 8 - 8 and that's not getting us in. If we are 9 - 7 we might slip in, but it would only be if CAR or TB tank the rest of the season. |

It is a start. I hope my thoughts are wrong and we go 12-4. I just can't drink the Kool-aid though(Great picture Matty). |
Brian Mitchell: "Al Saunders needs to change the way he calls his offense or else he's gonna cause this team some trouble."
Ehhh?
Well I agree with Brian! 2nd half calling was suspect as usual. |
Re: Are a we playoff team?
I look at it like this....if our line gets healthier, and our D can keep us in the really tough games (like next week)...anythings possible...look at how bad Chicago's offense was the 2nd half last year!
|
Re: Are a we playoff team?
We SHOULD be a playoff team. So many weapons on offense with a very good QB to run it, and a phenomenal D. But the offense needs to get it together. We need to throw more and get WRs involved. We just have to. Our lack of ability to sustain drives consistently really bothers me, especially in the second half. Something has to change offensively for us to be any kind of playoff threat.
|
Re: Are a we playoff team?
Season is not over so I dont know yet but the NFC East will have 3 playoff teams again.
|
Re: Are a we playoff team?
My heart says yes, but my gut isn't so sure. I think that them being 4-2 is a big deal and it's great, however, this team having lost 2 games that they dominated is a bad sign. In my opinion, this team should be 6-0, they've outplayed teams for all but about 1 half of football this season. The fact that they're 4-2 is actually a bad sign to me, but with a winning record and what I would say are about 8 "winnable" games left on the schedule I'm encouraged so far.
|
Re: Are a we playoff team?
No. We are not a playoff team. Playoff teams get a good lead and keep it that way. Playoff teams can muster more than 200 yards of total offense. The sad thing is though, because of our conference I think we will make the playoffs. We probably won't get past the divisional round but we should make the playoffs.
|
Re: Are a we playoff team?
160 total yards? We didn't "win" today, we escaped with a win...sorta like GB did against us but in even uglier fashion.
|
Re: Are a we playoff team?
We aren't looking like we did at the start of the season. Since Green Bay, Campbell hasn't been the same. I don't know what to say other that no. There's too many quality teams. This is my look at who akes the play-offs now:
1.Dallas 2.Green Bay 3.Tampa Bay 4. Seattle 5.NY Giants 6.Carolina??? on second thought maybe we do have a chance! |
Re: Are a we playoff team?
we are competing so I guess we could be considered a playoff team, there is much room for improvement however.
|
Re: Are a we playoff team?
With our O line beat to hell and with CP being held to 70-80 yards a game with JC not even getting 100 yards passing, do you think we are a playoff team? And this was one of the weaker opponents on our schedule. We are going to get beat up against NE and NY. We might be able to beat the Jets on defense alone and a half decent game from the offense, but it will be a physical matchup, one that we might not be able to come through unscathed, meaning more injuries. WE are not a playoff team as of now, but it can change. Every remaining opponent is tough, even lowly Buffalo can be tough. The D can't be expected to keep us in every game if it is on the field for 40 minutes every game. Today's perfromance was ridiculous plain and simple.
|
Re: Are a we playoff team?
The negativity burns my eyessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss, Arizona is not a bad team more like a decent team. We won while playing terribly I think that is a good sign, maybe we got lucky or maybe we are a dangerous team when we play good and are firing on all cylinders
|
Re: Are a we playoff team?
We have a defense that could carry us deep into the playoffs if the offense would hold up their end. I'm afraid that the offense will prevent us from making the playoffs altogether. At best, this looks like a 9-7 team to me.
|
Re: Are a we playoff team?
VERY SIMPLE....YES. We will get in and we will improve as these WINS keep on tickin.
Ugly or not today, and YES we were about to have a heart attack on the edge of our seats! But we found a way to get a W and in the end thats all that matters. Don't forget WE GAVE TWO away! Stole one. We will continue to feed of our defense, the offense will improve as we get healthy & will will peak at the right time. 10 WINS comin up! |
Re: Are we a playoff team?
The Skins are not even the best team in their division at this point so currently I think they are a wild card team at best. But the wild card is still the playoff and anything can happen in the playoffs.
I just think this team makes too many mistakes and the O is not good enough to take them very far in the playoffs. |
Re: Are we a playoff team?
Someone earlier said being a "playoff team" and being a "playoff caliber team" are different and I couldn't agree more. We are not a playoff caliber team until our line gets healthy again. We may be a playoff team at the end of the season b/c our schedule isn't too tough. Outside of NE, we don't have any real tough non conference games (i dont think TB is very good). And conference games are a toss-up so if we can go 2-2 i think we'll be ok.
There was a bit of a quicksand feel to the game yesterday, esp after the penalty sustained scoring drive by mistakes from Fletcher and Landry. So I don't think there's a need to overreact about the defense. What gets me is that the offense did absolutely nothing in the 4th quarter again. I'm beginning to really believe that its a conditioning issue more than anything else (esp with the line). Backup offensive linemen usually make up for what they lack in skill and size with hussle and that doesn't seem to be the case with us. Next year we had better get guys working their butts off in training camp. |
