Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Shields is a joke. Until they get a battery of good fighters the league will be a joke. One or two good fighters per weight class won't do it. What happens once Arlovski wins the belt? Who does he fight? They have no one and not too many decent fighters will be out there. They need to do what WEC is doing and compete at different weight classes and build stars from within. But they have to identify who the good young ones actually are. And yes I do know UFC owns WEC. Why do you think they bought it? WEC had figured out a solid way to compete.

I know I've pimped my buddy's site out before, but go to BloodyKnux.com for all your MMA news and forum needs. He's got a post asking for input on questions to ask UFC Fighter Tyson Griffin.
i don't know if i agree with the age thing. he keeps letting Coulture( sp?) come back. and Lldell isn't a spring chicken. it seemed like when Arlovski finally won the belt, he got very timid. don't know if that was due to injury, or not. but i cant get enough of the M.M.A :)
Couture and White actually hate each other right now... but it's rumored he may make a return to fight Big Nog for the heavyweight belt... or a pre-title fight against Brock Lesnar. But the UFC would have to tear up his old contract in order to do this (which is why Couture left in the first place). Unlike boxing, MMA is an evolving sport- that's why guys get old real quick in the UFC. Fighting styles get more and more advanced and champs only last so long. Lidell used to dominate... ever since his second loss to Rampage, he looked goofy getting slapped up by Rashad Evans. I remember when Royce Gracie owned everyone when UFC first started (no weight classes back then either)... then Matt Hughes totally took him to school a few years ago. And then Hughes got taken to shed twice by GSP. It really is a young man's game. Anyone watching the "Ultimate Fighter" on Spike? I think that blonde dude is gonna kick himself off the show this week... in the preview, he totally loses it in the house. |

I had a feeling EliteXC would try to do this... |
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
If they wanted Petruzelli to box rather than take Kimbo to the mat, then it was a major backfire. I don't think Kimbo took a dive, especially how pissed off he was, but then again, with ratings and money on the line, the promotion could have gotten very desperate.
I guess we'll wait and see. I really don't see anything coming of the investigation, but if it does, the entire sport of MMA will take the black eye. |
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
So is that it for Kimbo now? Are his 15 minutes over with?
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Nope, but he's about 12 minutes into his 15...EliteXC has spent too much money on him and marketing him to just throw him by the wayside.
Slice/Shamrock will happen down the road. From there, who knows, but as of right now, there is no way he can hang with the likes of Antonio Silva, Andrei Arlovski, Josh Barnett, Fedor Emelianenko, or even a Tim Sylvia. There's a reason Dana White would never bring Kimbo Slice to UFC and Elite is banking on being able to turn Kimbo into a legitimate threat. |
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
as big and as popular as kimbo is,he should go to the wwe.it's fake, but he could be one hell of a heel over there.i'd love to see him go at it with triple h,randy orton, big show,
kane,taker,and khali. |

Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Read that this morning. The talented fighters will find work, but Kimbo's 15 minutes may have expired. Dana White of the UFC has stated time and time again that he would never give Kimbo the time of day.
Supposedly CBS/Showtime and Affliction Clothing were supposed to collaborate in purchasing ProElite, but negotiations broke down after word of ProElite being under investigation by the Florida State Athletic Commission, from Seth Petruzelli's comments about his fight with Kimbo. |

Lesnar would destroy Kimbo. |
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
It wouldn't even be a contest, Lesnar would eat Kimbo alive.
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Lesnar doesn't have much of a martial arts back ground, but is a legit wrestler. i agree with you guys, he would destroy kimbo
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Destroy isn't the word. Lesnar actually has talent. If he can continue to stay motivated and not discouraged with tough losses he is going to be a force in the heavyweight division. The biggest question for him is whether he can take a punch. A Kimbo fight for him would be worthless at this point in his career. He needs to step up competition a little. Eventually I'd like to see him fight Tim Sylvia but not until he gets a little more polished and some experience udner his belt.
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
At this point, Lesnar would destroy Tim Silvia. Silvia for some reason isn't the fighter he used to be. He's gone soft. I'd like to see him come back and fight like he did when he was the UFC Heavyweight Champ, I just don't see it happening.
Lesnar fights Couture for the UFC Heavyweight belt in November at UFC 91. If Lesnar can't take care of Couture in the 1st round, I don't see him winning this fight. Lesnar had so many opportunities to put Heath Herring away, but didn't. A guy like Couture will take advantage of that. As far as Kimbo goes, Dana White has offered him a spot on The Ultimate Fighter if he is interested... |
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
i don't care how old couture is. i say no way Lesnar beats him. unless he has made great strides that i don't know about

Former NFL lineman TKOs Kimbo Slice
Posted by Mike Florio on May 8, 2010 11:01 PM ET Matt Mitrione, a former member of the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings, is now a mixed martial arts fighter. On Saturday night, Mitrione scored a technical knockout of Kimbo Slice, a YouTube sensation who is only 4-2 as a pro fighter. |
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Yea, I even have to admit, he is overrated, street fighting doesn't equate to MMA fighting!!!! He needs to host a bogus street fighting show.... but that's about all he will ever be
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Put Bimbo back on the streets, where he belongs. He's a joke and out of his league.

Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Dana White has cut Kimbo from the UFC following the loss.
Kimbo will find work. He's this generation's Tank Abbott. He is entertaining to watch, and really is a nice guy, despite his intimidating appearance. His fights will end with either him knocking somebody out or him getting knocked out. He is old at 36 but he has really just begun as a Mixed Martial Artist. He has shown more each fight. Last night I thought he showed patience, something he wouldn't have done before. |
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
There are plenty of start up and smaller promotions who would love to sign Kimbo to short term (1 or more fights) deals to put butts in the seats. He won't be making UFC money, but money is money.

Also, there's a ton of quit in Kimbo, he pretty much just gives up when guys are outclassing him, you can see it whenever he's on his back. Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
I think Kimbo doesnt have belief in his ground game..he showed tons of heart against Roy Nelson, and almost got out from underneath, but ultimatley just fatigued.
I don't train in MMA, i just do strictly boxing, but i imagine it is hard work to get out when somebody has you on the ground...besides Mitrione out weighed him by almost 30 pounds...and he gave him just a down home country whoopin. I think Kimbo needs to be brought along slowly, instead of fighting these seasoned guys. I really think he deserves at least a few more fights. Think about it. he beat Alexander, and stuffed his take down attempts...i thought Kimbo had really came along...that work ethic is still there. Somebody will take a chance on him. |
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
don't know where to put this. anyone interested in Sat. nights fight? my man Rampage vs. Rashard Evans. should be a pretty good one.
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
That should be a slobberknocker. No love loss between those 2. I'm more of a fan of Evans, but if Rampage is focused, he's a mean SOB. Wonder if taking time off to film The A-Team will hurt him. Figure the winner to get a shot at Rua down the line.
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Yeah, I'm hosting a bunch of my friends for Rampage v. Evans on Saturday. I like both of them, but I lean more towards Rampage. I have a feeling he might announce his return with authority and knock Rashad out...at least that's what I'm hoping happens
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Jackson by KO early. Too much hate in that man. Rampage all the way.
