Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
I thought that fight was pretty ugly. I enjoy Kimbos youtube fights, but I think he still has a ways to go. As soon as he faces some real competition I think he'll be in trouble. From what I've been reading online today, theres a lot of bad reviews of the whole broadcast last night.

Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Yea I watched it last night. But the other heavy weight first of all had what looked like a cauliflower growing out of his ear before the fight had ever begun I thought kimbo was going to send that thing flying outta the ring.
Secondly, Kimbo wasn't such a bad man on the mat, he was lucky to make it out of the second round, he was getting his ass handed to him. When the bushel of cauliflower busted early in the third it was the best thing that ever happened to kimbo. Yea, he rocked the cauli kid in stand up brawling...but if kimbo went back to the mat I think it would have been all she wrote. On a side note probably the best fight of the night was the two chicks, now that was a scrap! The girl that lost the bout due to TKO all of a sudden (it creeped up on me) looked like she had been in a BAD car accident, which happened to come from her opponents feet and fast hard punches. I also remember when her father came up in the ring after the fight they said he was an ex-NFL QB. Overall other than the one fight I thought was stopped early, due to the finger to eye. They should have IMO gave the guy the 5 minutes to regroup and get his sight back, he did not want the fight to end/stop. And it was a title bout. But the both got winner prize money and a rematch will happen, that was also a hell of a fight. All 5 MMA fights where pretty good and on regular network TV live free of charge, pretty good deal.

Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Kimbo is a joke. He can punch and is tough but maybe the top 50 heavy weights in the ufc/wec/pride would destroy him in one round.

Fight getting very bad reviews, maybe rigged...? Me personally, I didn't think so.

The the chick that won is one of the new American Gladiators, and she is pretty hot all right. I'm kind of glad I missed her fight because I'd probably fear her now if I had seen it.

Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
I caught this the other night, and if I didn't know any better (which I really don't), I'd say that the night was pre-determined for the most part.
The first 2 fights were quick and dirty, and evidence of very little trauma led to stoppages. Carano is not only hot, but she can lay the smack down. You could tell she was a bit rusty early, but then like a light switch, she turned on and just plain beat down her opponent. The Lawler/Stone fight was a BS stoppage. They should have given him the full 5 minutes to get himself back. Just glad it wasn't beyond the 3rd, at which time they would have gone to the scorecard. Even with the stoppage, this was the fight of the night by far. Kimbo should dump MMA and go into Butterbean's arena and be the next King of the 4 Round fights. He is nowhere near ready for a match that lasts beyond 2 minutes, and he needs to really get Bas Rutten on his ass and learn some ground skills. As soon as James Thompson got him on the mat, Kimbo had no idea of what to do. If he fights anyone with any gumption, he's going to get his ass handed to him. My wife called it, saying Thompson's ear would explode, and that's how Kimbo would win. Kimbo is a striker, and a damn good one, but he can't really do anything else. If he had stuck to striking, he probably would have taken care of Thompson in the first, but it looked like he was trying to prove too much. The best part of the broadcast was the fact that they started off the main card with blood all over the mat from previous matches.

i hate the floor stuff... it's just bad. if ufc could ditch that, it'd be SOOO much easier to watch and enjoy.

Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
I think Kimbo would have a difficult shot against any of the dominant strikers in any of the main leagues. He just isn't that quick. A guy like Liddell, who Kimbo would outweigh by a good 30 lbs, wouldn't even let Kimbo near him and I am guessing any of the decent heavyweights laugh at him. The guy can punch. He has serious power and punches through people. You can see it in any of his fights but he is just so one dimensional.
It sorta makes me mad that this was the crap that was introduced to the country. It certainly painted a better picture than a "human cock fight" but it simply wasn't as big league and entertaining as UFC or WEC can be. I am so tired of the elitist donkeys, who've never watched a sanctioned Pride or UFC fight, talk about how awful MMA is. The sport is anything but savage and a hell of a lot safer than boxing. |

If you guys are interested, one of my good friends helps run a site called BloodyKnux.com. They cover boxing, MMA, kickboxing, etc., and he has posted several audio clips with fighters he's interviewed. I don't usually read too much over there, but it's been around for a few years and has a loyal following.
