Well, that's kinda hard to say.. He's our #1 shutdown DB, only when he's healthy.. But unfortunately, he haven't been healthy for more than half of season for last two or perhaps three years? Like in Jason Taylor situation, if he's willing to take pay cut then sure.. If not, thank him for his contributions to the organization and show him the doors.. |

Springs was basically healthy for all of '07, this year was a return to his usual delicateness. |
Re: Rogers benched in favor of Hall once again
If Springs would be willing to take a big pay cut, I'd keep him. So, after next week, I'll say my goodbyes to the man. Sorry, but he's aging and been injured too much. It's time to cut ties. Our secondary will be fine without him as long as we re-sign Hall.

Basically I agree. Springs still has dollar signs in his eyes and I don't believe he's a team guy. Not very impressed w/ Los anymore, but he and Hall will make a solid duo. I'm worried about a 3rd/nickel corner. Smoot is a liability. Anybody want to bring Torrence back? |

Smoot has been just dreadful. I hate to say that because Smoot was one of my favorite players, but, unfortunately, it's true. |

There's my answer Goat. On the postgame show they were interviewing Springs and D-Hall and the subject of Taylor saying he wasn't worth 8 mil was brought up. I think it was B-Mitch who said " You'd never say you weren't worth the money would you Shawn." Springs looked like a deer caught in the headlights. I don't think he'll take a paycut and he's to expensive to have as a part-time safety. I'm looking for Kareem Moore to step up in the cobra package next year. The dude has some talent and can lay the wood. I think Springs is great when he plays. I just feel like he does'nt want to play if he's not 100% because of his pride. He's afraid of looking bad. That's just my opinion. |

Tryon of course! :laughing2 |

If the coaches don't think Tryon will step it up in a big way, I think we should sign a 2nd tier corner like Miller, McQuarters or Buchanon. |

He's been MISERABLE. I want to know what happened to Carlos today. I barely saw him on the field at all, and Smoot a ton. Anyone know anything? |

Los just got the shoes changed on his two hoofs and they're very sore. I guess it hurts like hell. |

I saw him several times. Hell, one time the announcers even mention the Skins were playing their base D, but still had him, Hall and Springs in there with Landry being the only true safety. |

We also have Byron Westbrook on the practive squad. |

Well he played 30 of 32 games in 2004 and 2005, and didn't he break his wrist or something like that in 2006 causing him to miss half that season? I don't think he's quite the fragile doll he's portrayed to be. |

He's been pretty fragile this year. As to who started and who didn't -- it's pretty clear that Blache, like Gregg Williams before him, don't get hung up on who's starting, or who is classified as #1 or #2. Seems like all the secondary guys are basically interchangeable. Depending on health, who's had better practices, who matches up better against opposing receivers, the defensive coaching staff just goes with the best guy possible -- and all of them will see plenty of playing time. With everything that's wrong with this team, I am perfectly comfortable with whatever they do with the secondary week to week. |
Re: Rogers benched in favor of Hall once again
Springs when he's on the field makes a big impact for this team. The question is can he stay healthy and is he worth his cap # next year?
|
Re: Rogers benched in favor of Hall once again
I would sign Hall to a five year deal. Corners are hard to find, just ask Dallas. Who has better corners? Nobody! When you can start Hall, Rogers, and Springs and still have Smoot on the bench. We just need more DL pressure.

If Springs was smart he would renegotiate to stay here. If he thinks that another team is going to pay premium prices for a 34 year old player with a history of injury problems, then his view of reality is warped. Nobody is going to sign him for more than the veteran minimum. |
Re: Rogers benched in favor of Hall once again
he is getting to the age where he might be thinking about retirement....
|
Re: Rogers benched in favor of Hall once again
He said last week he's got 3 more years in him. I don't think he'd renegotiate to stay here, his relationship with the FO has been pretty strained for a couple of years now.

Then good luck to him if he can find someone to pay him what he thinks he's worth. I would offer him a 2 year/2 million $$$ contract and that's being very generous. |

or moving to free safety |
Re: Rogers benched in favor of Hall once again
Hall is easily one of the two top corners we have, hope we resign him. I'd be happy with the same corners next year.

Re: Rogers benched in favor of Hall once again
Personally, I'd love to see Springs back. The team is simply better when he's on the field.

There's no denying that, when he's on the field he's a difference maker. |

The question is can he stay healthy for a seson so that we can count on him

Agreed, for all 17 plays he was healthy this year. :) Seriously though, if they can figure out a way to bring him back and he stays healthy, then great. He's a year older and 2 of the last 3 years he's missed significant time with muscle injuries (groin in '06, calf in '08) that are more prevalent as you age so it's risky to count on him. |
Re: Rogers benched in favor of Hall once again
I wouldn't bring Springs back. You only get 8 to 9 games from him anymore. he has spent too much time the last season on the sideline. Time to move on.
Hall should be a must sign and will likely be an expensive one at that. He is young, quick, and a play maker. Worth the cash. |

if the skins sign Hall, that would give them alittle more flexability in using Springs. maybe keep him fresher thru out the season. he still is our best cover corner( just ask T.O) |
Re: Rogers benched in favor of Hall once again
I would be reluctant to throw alot of cash at Hall. I would offer him a short term deal and let him earn another big payday down the road.

I agree but since when do the Skins ever force a player to earn a big payday. Everyone knows the Skins MO is to throw big $ at players right away. Heck, they gave Betts a nice extension and good bonus $ for playing 8 good games when CP went down about 2 seasons ago. That's just how the Skins roll. |
Re: Rogers benched in favor of Hall once again
Sorry Matty as much as you hate it, you're going to see D Hall get a large deal. I agree with you that we shouldn't overpay for him but unfortunatley its gonna happen

I hope they don't, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did. That's how dumb Vinny is. |

I think so too. Whether Hall deserves it or not is another question, but there is alot of need out there for solid corner backs and Hall's success in DC the last few weeks and his name out of the media is helping boost his value. Question becomes, how long and how high do you go. |

And also when and if he gets the money, will he revert to free lancing and stupid personal fouls? |
Re: Rogers benched in favor of Hall once again
I looove Deangelo Hall, he's a real shut down corner ..even on the dropped touchdown against the eagles he was in as perfect position as a player can get ..If he resigns I will be sporting a #23 as well as you know 21...

Question is, does Snyder intelligently use the leverage that he knows how badly hall needs us, and make him resign for a shorter, nickelbacks type deal, or does he fail to use his leverage, and pay Hall whatever he wants.
The former gives us another, (I'll go against my better judgement and say) quality defensive back. The latter, gives us an overpaid defensive back who will be impossible to bench if his level of play declines. Good teams pay the first contract, bad teams pay the second. It's time to see how much the FO learned from the Gibbs era. Because Hall is going to be here next year no matter what. If Snyder is really scared of the open market, he should use the transition tag on Hall. Gives us the right of first refusal. |
