Bengals have claimed Plack, I think
Yep, good for them and him. BENGALS POUNCE ON PLACKEMEIER Posted by Mike Florio on February 13, 2009, 4:35 p.m. The Cincinnati Bengals have claimed punter Ryan Plackemeier on waivers from the Redskins, the team announced on Friday. Plackemeier had been waived by the Seahawks during the 2008 season, and he signed with Washington on October 15. Kyle Larson is the other punter on the roster; he has held the job for the last five years. Signed through 2012, Larson is scheduled to earn a base salary of $1 million in 2009. |
Re: Plackemeier waived
Placks now a Bengal. Wow sucks for him. I actually thought he was ok

Re: Plackemeier waived
Do people have short memories around here or what?
Plackemeier was 28th in the league in punting average last year, and 37th in net avg. Outside of one game he was awful. NFL Football Statistics and League Leaders - National Football League - ESPN |

Re: Plackemeier waived
He doesnt suck. hes been off lately but this guy has great potenetial. hes only 24 years old and it was his 3rd year pro . I think we should have kept him one more year. Check out his stats for 06 He was 4th in the league
NFL Football Statistics and League Leaders - National Football League - ESPN Also his stats started coming up late in the year with his best game at Philly earning him special player of the week with 4 of his kicks within the 10YL Plackemeier Named NFC Special Teams Player of Week I think the Bengals were smart to go after him. |
Re: Plackemeier waived
I still cant believe they cut him in the off season.

Besides his rookie year he's been pretty bad. 1 good season out of 4 puts you in the 'kinda sucks' category. |
Yeah I'm just saying there are other punters available, not just Lechler. Smootsmack hinted perhaps Hunter Smith.
Re: Plackemeier waived
Lechler or Smith. Either one would give us some stability at that position.
|
Re: Plackemeier waived
While Smith is definatly an upgrade from Plack. I dont think we should jump on him without exploring the possibility of signing Lechler. 53 spoke of both punters bringing stability and they would. But if you look at the stats for the last 4 years, its obvious Lechler sets the standard for stability while Smith is good he is up and down. I added Plack in just to show contrast.
Rankings............2005........2006........2007.........2008 Lechler................2nd............2nd.........1st...........2nd Smith..................5th............10th........21st.........12th Plack...................---............4th..........32nd.........28th Smith had a great 08 season but he has consistantly declined from 05 to 07 with a good showing for 08 Where Lechler has been in the top 2 for the last four seasons. While I would welcome Smith, Im not sure I would jump on him to fast if there is a chance to land Lechler |
Re: Plackemeier waived
But what if Smith is 2-3 million dollars cheaper?

Re: Plackemeier waived
But what if Smith is 2-3 million dollars cheaper?
He probably will be. Its just hard to watch a FA like Lechler slide if we could get him. But back to reality, yes Smith would be the logical choice as far as $$$ is concerned. If the best SS player is the main objective then Lechler. I wonder sometimes if our only FA move was Lechler and did everything else in the draft how that would work. Then i remember we only have 4 picks so I would still welcome Smith. But will he continue to play at his 08 level? I guess any way you look at it we would be in better shape with Smith than Plack. |

I think he would be the better choice, more bang for the buck. |

Smoot, If Smith and Lechler dont work out. How much you think it would take to get this guy? :) YouTube - David Beckham: Field Goal Kicker (Futbol meets Football) |
Re: Plackemeier waived
Plack sucked , and I'm glad he's gone to mess up the Cincinnati Bungles kicking game...
|
Re: Plackemeier waived
If Hunter Smith would sign here for something close to league minimum, I'd rather have him then Lechler.

I think it was Danny Smith who said that there are about 6 good punters and the rest are pretty much interchangeable. In terms of dollars, paying top dollar for Lechler equates to paying back-up money to a tackle. Yet, a good punter will have a much bigger impact on the game. Because punters are cheap to begin with, I would pay top dollar for Lechler. In the big picture, punter is the cheapest place to get a difference maker. |

I believe most people underestimate the importance of a great kicking game. I would rather have a guy like Lechler who can consistently pin the opposing team deep in there own territory. Than say a Haynesworth who by himself can't do as much and cost a lot more $$$ When we played Philly the second game and Plack pinned them within there 10 YL four times it changed there offense they felt rushed and made mistakes. Plack won us that game IMO. |

I think having that in almost every game would be huge. |
Re: Plackemeier waived
If it's between Smith and Lechler I say take the best guy and pay for what you get rather than trying to take a bargain, If we want the punting game to change , Let's take the best punter available ...

4 years, $12 million. I thought it'd be around $15 million. Colts kept Kelvin Hayden as well. |

RAIDERS REEL IN LECHLER
Posted by Mike Florio on February 18, 2009, 9:47 p.m. At a time when it appeared that Raiders punter Shane Lechler would leave via free agency, the team worked out a new contract with the man owning one of the strongest legs in the game. According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Lechler will receive $12 million over four years, with $9 million guaranteed. Lechler is the first punter to receive an average of $3 million per year. Some league observers thought that the Raiders were ready to move on, given that Lechler was allegedly thumped on a plane flight home from a road game by defensive tackle Terdell Sands — and that Sands faced no discipline. Then again, it was just a punter. The move also clears the way for the Raiders to use the franchise tag on Nnamdi Asomugha. According to RaiderBeat.com, a fairly new team-specific web site with a domain name that is crying out for a cease-and-desist letter from the organization, Asomugha and the team are closing in on a deal. |
