Re: Can we get some love for the Defense?
Good point. The D remains our strong side. My question is, how good does our Offense have to be to get wins from a stellar defense? For years teams like Pitt, and Jacksonville had sh@t offense, but there D kept them in their games.

Re: Can we get some love for the Defense?
I think its funny that now since JC was benched its like ANY QB who takes a snap from Center is doomed according to the JC soup slurpers. I guess if JC couldnt have success then NOONE can even if the man taking his spot is the same guy who led us to the playoffs the last time he took over for JC.
And NO, im not sayin TC is going to come in and turn it all around but i do believe it was time for a change. All we heard about during the preseason was how JC was taking over in the huddle and getting in players' faces for missing assignments or running wrong routes, well he must have gotten B Slapped because not once did i see this during the season. it was the ol JC who shows zero pulse and reverted back to his usual shortcomings ie slow reads, inaccurate throws downfield and not being a vocal leader of the team when clearly they needed one. So now if TC starts everyone needs to practice what they have been preaching to the non JC supporters and get behind our QB. If JC starts next week hopefully he does better but at this point i think he has lost all confidence in zorn, and likewise. |
Re: Can we get some love for the Defense?
I'm behind ANY QB who can get this offense to score points. With the receivers we have, or at least the way they're used, it's no easy task.

Re: Can we get some love for the Defense?
We need to get some fresh legs on the field, id like to see Marko on the field especially in the RZ. DT and MK need to step up also.
How can we draft 2 good wrs who were said to have been 1st round talent and they dont contribute yet the eagles can draft young wrs and they are starting and making plays in the early part of their rookie years? in the same freaking offense..Get a damn wr coach who knows what he is doing. |
Re: Can we get some love for the Defense?
Last week Hall gave up the 3rd down, this week it was Rogers. Offense woulda had a chance in both cases. When they wrapping up then we'll talk about defense.

Re: Can we get some love for the Defense?
Defense was solid, we know they arent in the elite status to carry the team but if the offense cant score in the double digits on the worst defense in the league then the defense doesnt matter. The defense had the game in reach, the offense couldnt take advantage.

Re: Can we get some love for the Defense?
Rogers, who is easily in my top 5 least favorite Redskins, had a simply awful game. I really wish we could deal him before Tuesday for a pick but at least (assuming an uncapped year) some team will likely offer him a contract next offseason and we can recoup a pick for him then.
Other than him and the geometrically challenged (LEARN A F'N ANGLE) Landry, most everyone else has played quite well this season. I think we see by Carter and Orapko's production the impact Haynesworth is having on the defense. I like hearing Jarmon's name called out more and more and Golston has impressed me all season as well. |
Re: Can we get some love for the Defense?
I forgot to give props to Kendrick Golston he made some nice plays. the D-Line as a whole did a good job. Lets see how they play against the Eagles offense.

Re: Can we get some love for the Defense?
Just read this off of Redskins.com about the defense: "The unit is ranked fifth overall in the NFL and third in pass defense and is tied for sixth in sacks with 15." Just think when everything is going to hell, that there is a positive. I know the haters are going to talk about look who we have played BUT the D has played up to par and been able to handle these teams who we were suppose to handle. Great thing is the D is getting better as the season goes on. Props to Blache and guys...3rd in pass D is impressive

I just read a post about our bad corners. |
Re: Can we get some love for the Defense?
^Yeah dont think their that bad (except fo Smoot) and pretty sure Carlos isnt coming back next year. So expect it to get worst next year because there isnt crap for CBs free agents next year and if we cant afford to waste another pick on a corner for awhile. In fact our entire draft next year should be just offense picks.

Re: Can we get some love for the Defense?
What about Chris McAlister? He certainly is available on the FA list.
|
Re: Can we get some love for the Defense?
I would give a look at McAlister for a nickle corner, but not a starter. Carlos may have hands of steel and DeAngelo may take chances and get beat every now and then, but Im convinced we can win with these 2 guys. Hall is a playmaker and Carlos had 24 pass defended last year. I wouldnt come close to say these guys are the best duo in the league, but I would say they are solid, above average starters at their position. Smoot needs to retire and Tryon as strung together a couple good games. It is too early on Barnes.

Re: Can we get some love for the Defense?
I'd love to give props to our D, but the fact is that once we start playing real teams, they will get ripped. This defense is average at best. Monday night will reveal that.

Re: Can we get some love for the Defense?
I think that Los will be back once Blache is gone. Money talks, and Snyder has enough of it to tell Los everything he wants to hear.

I think Hall and Rogers are a solid duo. They are not physical enough for me, but they have above average coverage skills. I think in the Redskins defense, the player that needs to make plays is the free safety - which would help Hall and Rogers be better in what they do. I think Landry has all the tools to become a great player, but he just doesn't know enough at this point to be a good free safety; he may be miscast a bit because he would seem to be a good strong safety. Horton may be a better fit at free safety than Landry. Landry needs to focus on positioning and anticipation when the ball is in the quarterback's hands. When you start seeing Landry around the ball more after it's thrown, that's when you will start seeing the secondary playing at a noticeably higher level. I think this also applies at the SOLB spot. Once you see the SOLB (probably someone other than orakpo) around the ball more when the ball is in the runningback's hands, that's when you will start seeing the running defense playing at a noticeably higher level. |

while i agree with you that we havent played any real offensive theat teams except maybe the giants in the opener, i do think our D is better than "average at best". it seems like every week so far weve played a team in the bottom 5 in offense and defense so that 5th ranked D of ours I dont see sticking once we play better teams. that being said, i think we still end up near the top 10 Ds in the league at seasons end, even with the 3 n out offense we have. go skins!! |
