Tough to say how we'll do because key roles on the roster are not set yet. I do imagine that this team will put more effort than we saw in games like Detroit and KC last year.

I'm still not sure how McNabb is "past his prime" Is it because of his age? Because when I look at his numbers the past couple of years I don't see a guy past his prime
I have an appointment scheduled with Dr. Shields at Wills Eye Hospital in Philly next thursday morning at 9:00 AM. I can't wait for the opportunity to discuss the McNabb trade with a few of my die-hard Philly fan friends. My Nephew works at the Pharmacy directly across the street from the hospital, and swears McNabb was the best thing that ever happened in Philly including all their sports franchises.
I love optimism as much as the next guy. But from the outside looking in, besides the coach and GM this team still has essentially the same face.

Got McNabb, sure. But is not this team reputed to be one that tends to sign big names that are past thier prime? How is this any different?

And such lofty predictions even BEFORE the draft, before mini camps, before the roster is solidified. Way too much can happen between now and September.

And do you really think enough is being done to improve by 6 or 7 wins? Last time that happened was 1999 when the Rams went 13-3 after a 3-13 season in 1998.
I think it's easy to assume that all the hidden offensive talent will emerge as a result of getting DM. I see our offensive line being worse than it was last year. Even if we draft heavy O-line in the draft I don't see many outplaying our old and departed vets from last year. I don't see the zone blocking scheme being something that is picked up in one offseason...especially with the talent we have. If we lose big Al and have a hard time adjusting to the 3-4 our D could easily slip out of the top 10 this year. Ridiculous home schedule, decent away...I can't see more than 7 wins this year.

Eagles -W & L
Cowboys -W & L
Giants -W & L
Colts -L (Manning
Bucs -W (I just feel they are on a decline)
Rams -W ( I think JASON CAMPBELL will choke against us)
Texans -W (Texans will have a new offense same D which K.Shan knows)
Bears - W (This is just a faith call)
Packers-W (Another faith call)
Vikes - W (Brett will ruin the Vikes this year)
Lions - W (It cant happen again)
Jags - W (Going with my gut)
Titans - W (Big Al reeks Havoc that game)

12-4

Make it 10-6 just for being blinded by love.

Only difference is now we have a quarterback, and we did have a good team going into last season but had some injuries and lost a lot of tight games...Im thinking 8-8-11-5 range.
I believe the first half of the season we may struggle with the adjustments to the new system/scheme. The second half should be better. Overall we're probably looking at 8-8 or 9-7. (with the obligatory "injury-free" caveat).

Looking at our schedule and making assumptions (we all know what happens when you ass-u-me):

Eagles - W & L
Cowboys - W & L
Giants - W & L
Colts - L
Bucs - W
Rams - W
Texans - ?
Bears - W
Packers - ?
Vikes - L
Lions - W
Jags - ?
Titans - ?

I expect McNabb to be in-line with his last three years:

3500-3600 yards / 22TD / 9INT / 61% comp / 2-3 TD rushing
I agree with your conclusion that it's a 8-9 win team. This is provided they get a top level OT, otherwise, its a 5-6 win team that probably isn't quite as good as last year.

I do think his 2009 QB rating makes him look a LOT better than he really was this season. I think he played with more confidence and made better throws as the year went on, but that ended up being short lived with the two Dallas games at the end of the year. I thought Philadelphia would win both of those games, but McNabb didn't play his best, and it's my conclusion that Philadelphia is better off not tying it's fortunes to fluctuations in McNabb's passing performance.
Seems like almost everyone is excited about getting McNabb and I can't help wonder why everyone is so giddy given the 'Skins track-record of overpaying for big names some of whom are in their twilight years. What do you think the Skins record will be next year? McNabb's stats? Keep in mind McNabb is going to be learning a new system with a new coach and new teammates.

I say 8-8 with McNabb netting 3500 yards, 20 TDs, and 14 INTs. Don't get too excited and get your hopes up, they will inevitably be dashed.
Why are do fans try to predict how a team in April is going to finish the season? This just fans talking out their asses not knowing what the final roster is going to be and how injuries play out during the season. Predicting now is just BS.

Im still shocked that we aquired McNabb , but we also gave up our 2nd rd pick. We also will have to give up a 3rd or 4th rd next year draft. If McNabb doesnt play well then we got hosed. If he does play well than the Eagles get our 3rd pick next season. The Redskins still do not want to build in the draft which has haunted us for years. I like having McNabb but I would have been ok with JC this year with a better O-Line. Then draft a QB in the 2nd rd if McCoy was there. Im not predicting any records , I just hope this trade works out for the Redskins team and fans. Its to early to say if this will make us playoff contenders with the O-line not addressed.

To all the Redskins fans that are predicting 16-0 , you will be the same fans complaining on here if we dont do well. Lets get real we were 4-12 so if we go 8-8 thats positive people. Dont get your hopes up to high cause you may have a big let down.

Trading away the future should not come as a suprise. Despite Shanahan's denial of his construction being built to win now, he has pledged to add any player (s) that will help him win games. I actually look for more trades involving draft picks with the exception being any future #1's.
Wow, I am still not sold on the Skins transformation, but if it could be any more poorly described, I am not sure how.

Let's see we cut 10 "good team players" before free agency. Not a cost saving move or cap saving move, purely a football ability and team direction move. Not really the same face at all
You won't get me making a huge defense for McNabb, at the same time a 34yo QB who was in the PB very recently, and has led his team to the playoffs and was released because of his team's decision and was not a FA looking for a big payday.

Wow, I bet I go to any fan board and they are talking about how their team will be competitive. This is a shocking situation.

2002-2003 Dallas 5-11 to 10-6
1989-1990 Dallas 1-15 to 7-9
2007-2008 Miami 1-15 to 11-5 (nice you forgot that one)
1998-1999 Rams 3-13 to 13-3

So it has happened on occasion.

Really, your comments were that of a Dallas fan with no clue. You usually are better than that.
The only point I was trying to make was it is way too early to make W/L predictions.

ONE: We dont even have the season schedule yet
TWO: We don't know who is going to be on the roster yet.
THREE: The only thing that has happened thus far is the ink is still wet on a couple of contracts, and the guys have only been lifting weights together for about 10 days now.
FOUR: Not one practice has occured. McNabb "played catch" with Cooley and Kelly.

But allow me to enlighted you on one particular fact. Those 10 payers that the Redskins cut, it was most certainly a cost saving measure. To think otherwise just advertises that it is you that has no clue.

At the end of the day, what has really transpired thus far?
Released 10 players
Signed 8 players thus far and only ONE of those players is under 30 (but will turn 30 mid-season)

I agree, to a point, with the threads topic. SSDD. All the free-agents, and trades acquired are all on the wrong side of 30.

I might be wrong, and for the fans sake I hope I am. But honestly, when you really look at what has transpired, besides coaching, what has changed?

Still trading draft picks for players on the wrong side of 30. Still signing free agents on the wrong side of 30.

Re: Different Season, Same Trap

I know that things look simaliar from the outside, but this is not the same team that will suit up in the fall nor is this business as usual for the Redskins. To much has already changed, though it seems that some things have stayed the same. The addition of the players that have already entered the team at Redskins Park may have the same feel as the past. BUT BA and MS must rebuild with thier players and it starts by dropping some of the old faces that have not won much of anything since they have been here. That also means bringing in some vets. Since this years FA market wasn't that good I think we have done a fine job, and tings are not being run as they would have in the VC era just on the fact ath we have not signed one or tow HUGE FA to ridiculous contracts. On the contrary we have brought in good veteran depth and quality starters at good market value prices. I am not going to make any predictions like others have, I am only going to say this Redkins team of 2010 will be much more competitive and fun to watch as teams in years past.

If you look at the players they cut, they could have been kept for minimal costs, but they were all players who, to a large degree were living on past recognition, or locker room presence. Most were players who should have been gone but previous regimes kept for whatever reason (sometimes cap). To think those specific 10 were cut solely for a cost saving measure is wrong.

What has changed is that we are not signing the highest price FA available, regardless of fit, and we are trading draft picks within what a reasonable FO would do. (possibly)

Finally, one big change is the fact that, as many threads have said, the culture of entitlement is being weeded out.

That is a far cry from the thinking that we bring in one Julius Peppers and think man now we have it all.

Let's say you just got a divorce and then time went by and you cooled off and were ready to enter into a new relationship. Would you have the same attitude toward your new partner as you do to the new Redskins. Granted, the new Redskins is not going to be a relationship for you but in reality, is expectations that much different? grip it n rip it!

Fred Smoot
Cornelius Griffin
Randy Thomas
Antwaan Randel El
only 2 I'll miss..lol
The only one that I would've put up a fight for is Rock. El can nevevr step up to the number one spot in Santana's absence, nor could he legitimize his PR claim to fame. Randy Thomas is injured so often it doesn't matter anymore how great of a run blocker he used to be. Griffin's name isn't heard often enough to matter anymore. he had 70 tackles and 6 sacks 6 years ago and hasn't been CLOSE to that since as in the last 3 years he posted less than 30 solo tackles and less than 3 sacks. Smoot!?!? HA!!! The man swats balls like they're flys in his face. If all his ALMOST picks were ACTUAL picks, he'd have made the probowl this year. If I had to see him ALMOST make the pick that would've changed the game ONE MORE TIME i would go CRAZY!?!? And Betts's claim to fame was a half a season of good running when all of our o-line came back from injury. I wanted us to trade him for Sproles or something while people actually thought Betts was good, but we kept him and he hasn't been 'the man' ever since. In Portis absence, he never made me question why he wasn't #1.

ROCK on the other hand, is iffy to me. On the one side, he is not a legitimate threat as a load carrying HB and hasn't taking a KR to the house since 2006. He doesn't give the opposing team fear as a kick returner. That being said, he CONSISTANTLY gives us good field position and doesn't dance around and lose yards. He is good enough to do an NFL level job at any position we ever have put him in. I honestly dont' think we used him properly and that he would've excelled as a Brian Mitchell like 3rd down back! He has great hands and explosive change of direction and would be great if occasionaly used in the slot. Nobody can question his conmtribution to the team. I'll miss him, and though i would have kept him, i can see why he was released and I approve.

Also... i think it's funny how in other threads i said we were reliving past mistakes in some of our moves as in the signing of older players and our treatment of Campbell, ect.

When people said I was living in the past for saying that we were doomed to repeat it, i said that Shannahan was trying to turn McNabb into Elway and that our GM is trying to be his pops and relivive the 'over the hill gang', EVEN AFTER i said that only one of the players recently signed was under 30, i was treated like a hater.

Now on the official website they are comparing McNabb to Elway and have a big thing about the 'Over The Hill Gang'...

Funny
