Different Season, Same Trap
Seems like almost everyone is excited about getting McNabb and I can't help wonder why everyone is so giddy given the 'Skins track-record of overpaying for big names some of whom are in their twilight years. What do you think the Skins record will be next year? McNabb's stats? Keep in mind McNabb is going to be learning a new system with a new coach and new teammates.
I say 8-8 with McNabb netting 3500 yards, 20 TDs, and 14 INTs. Don't get too excited and get your hopes up, they will inevitably be dashed.

Re: Different Season, Same Trap
Meet me in the trap it's goin' down.
McNabb is used to having different receivers by now and he knows the concepts of our system. |

Re: Different Season, Same Trap
Until the offensive line is significantly upgraded, I'd say the McNabb and Shanahan partnership makes us 3 wins better, 7-9. If we get an offensive line worth a darn then I can see 9-7.
The defense is going to experience a fair amount of change themselves.

Re: Different Season, Same Trap
I think McNabb will get up to speed very quickly. He knows the terminology of the system, he just has to get used to a balanced attack instead of throwing 70% of the time.
I do agree about all the elation around his signing. You've got wonder if Vinny did this what everyone's reaction would be. Another high priced, past his prime vet brought in for high draft pick(s).... Granted it's a qb, but still. On the low end I'd say 7 wins, on the high end I'd say 10.

I am excited becasue the Redskins are a "get away" for me from reality. So Iwant to hope my "get away" is at least going to be fun.

Without knowing who will play on the o-line I find it impossible to speculate too much. However, I will say that Shanny's system will be far more familiar than new to McNabb. Reid's Philly offensive concepts are not dissimilar.

IMO. If Vinny did this he would still be here! What I mean is if he was bold enough to replace JC.

Re: Different Season, Same Trap
I don't know if it's the same trap. I was kind of skeptical about this news at first. But, taking a step back, there are plenty of differences with this situation. When we got Mark Brunell, he had came off a serious injury and hadn't played a lot of football. McNabb was fairly healthy last year, and still has a strong arm. McNabb holds all of the passing records in Philly (yes I know it's Philly!) He's gotten to a Super Bowl and he's one Super Bowl win away from probably being a hall of fame QB. Plus, I think we're getting him a bit younger than what we had gotten Brunell (I think, right?)
It's the same offense he's used to playing in. He won't have to throw nearly as much each game as he did in Philly. Really, it's not a question about McNabb at all...it's the offensive line. That really will decide if the Redskins are a 10 win team this coming season or will they be .500 or below.

Re: Different Season, Same Trap
I believe the first half of the season we may struggle with the adjustments to the new system/scheme. The second half should be better. Overall we're probably looking at 8-8 or 9-7. (with the obligatory "injury-free" caveat).
Looking at our schedule and making assumptions (we all know what happens when you ass-u-me): Eagles - W & L Cowboys - W & L Giants - W & L Colts - L Bucs - W Rams - W Texans - ? Bears - W Packers - ? Vikes - L Lions - W Jags - ? Titans - ? I expect McNabb to be in-line with his last three years: 3500-3600 yards / 22TD / 9INT / 61% comp / 2-3 TD rushing

Re: Different Season, Same Trap
If we get Okung, 10-6. If we can get either Bulaga or Campbell from maryland, and B. marshall, 11-5, possibly 12-4.

Re: Different Season, Same Trap
Seriously tho, assuming we make a substantial upgrade at RT and LT, barring injuries, I think 9-7 - 11-5 is definitely possible.
