Re: Mike Williams out for season? (rumor)
Sorry Bro, thanks for . . . nothing? What the hell did he ever do for the Redskins? He was a lineman on one of the worst lines we've had.

Re: Mike Williams out for season? (rumor)
Put me in the BMW camp. Was rooting for him to really step up into the guard position. With that said, I hope he recovers - blod clots are not something to mess with.
I think our depth, while taking a hit, will be fine. I just have much more faith in a Shanahan coached line than a Zorn coached line. I also think we have more quality depth along the interior than at tackle - Maybe I am on crack but between E. Williams, Hicks, Dockery, Rabach & Rinehart we should be fine. If Cook develops, even better. Our line at this point: RT: Brown (Capers) RG: Hicks/Rinehart (E. Williams) C: Rabach (E. Williams) LG: Dockery (E. Cook) LT: T. Williams (Brown) Rinehart, Cook, E. Williams and Licthensteiger fighting for the 2 back-up guard/center spots and then the two losers of that fighting Heyer for the 9th spot. As far as the interior of the line, I think Shanny will find 3 quality starters and 2 solid subs from that group. |

With or without Big Mike I think the line will be powers of ten better because they now have a solid NFL QB behind them and that will make them better. |
Just to be clear, "blood clots" near heart doesn't make much sense. But if true, it may mean he'd need blood thinners, which would make playing football again less likely.
There are a couple of possibilities: 1) Blood clot in leg/lung (deep venous thrombosis or DVT) - usually in immobile people or with recent surgery. 2) Blood clot in heart from an irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation). 3) Heart tumor (myxoma) - usually need surgery, ppl do fine. 4) Problem/clot on heart valve - unusual, unlikely. 5) Something completely different.. Can't think of anything else that would make sense in his case. Either way, hope it's just a rumor and he's okay.
I've had 2 DVTs, and yes, the immediate treatment is blood thinners. Big Mike will probably spend 4-5 days hospitalized receiving Heparin intervenously. After release, he will be prescribed Coumadin, and will require regular testing to ensure that his blood remains thin. Over a period of several months, the clots will dissolve. At that point, he can probably come off blood thinners and possibly resume his career. |
Re: Mike Williams out for season? (rumor)
Without Big Mike. Who my prayers are with.
We still have a good looking line. JoeRed I have a couple of changes though. For one I really want to know hwo comes out of training camp with the #1 LT spot. I know what we have heard about TW and JB, but with a Probowl LT on board, if TW does not look to top form in Training Camp I would expect MS and KS to start Jamaal Brown for the time being. Having those 2 guys is going to be huge for us this year. So we will go with TW winning LT spot in training camp. LT- Trent Williams (J. Brown, Heyer) LG- Derrick Dockery (E Williams) C- Casey Racbach (K, Lightsigner, E Williams) RG- Artis Hicks (Cook) RT- Jamaal Brown (Heyer, Capers) Trent Williams immediate back up is Jamaal Brown, but in my scenario we keep 10 line men on the 53 man roster. I don't know if they keep that many. In that case, I guess Heyer goes, unless you can practice squad Capers for a time. As I have no idea how these guys are looking Rhinehart could be there and one of the rookies could be gone. |
Re: Mike Williams out for season? (rumor)
Dude isn't that good! Glad he's out now so we can get to work finding a more capable replacement.

The only nice story I am interested in is one in which the Redskins are Super Bowl champs. |
Re: Mike Williams out for season? (rumor)
hope he recovers quickly, not that I care about him playing football...but just so he can enjoy life.

Re: Mike Williams out for season? (rumor)
I hope Williams is OK and leads a long healthy life. But from football standpoint I really don't think this is a big loss. Williams was terrible last year and really doesn't seem like a fit for the new staff. I wish him well.

Although your assessment is accurate, the prior coaching staff had him pegged as a backup RT due to his mobility. Keep in mind this guy was 420 and lost like 70 lbs prior to training camp...that had to be a MASSIVE burden on his body...he certainly was in far better shape this year...in fact he is now at 330 last I heard which I believe would have been his all time lowest playing weight in the NFL. He was doing quite well at RG in OTA's and was pegged as the starter as you recall. The new staff did NOT see him as terrible, otherwise 2 or 3 other guys would have been with the starters. I heard he looked like a monster at RG. I was expecting him to probably win the RG spot due to his size and mobility in the zone blocking scheme even after the trade happened. I happend to disagree with your assumption that just because he sucked as a RT 9 months after being 420 eatting ho-hos that he'd suck as a RG at 330 after 18 solid months of workouts at the NFL level. The guy was solid...and he will be missed. We'll all see how the Skins value him if we put him on injured reserved or if we cut ties with him and give him some sort of injury settlement. I personally am upset that we lost our 5th or 6th best olineman after a disasterous year on the oline. (good thing we got our trade through before this news!, otherwise trade value could have costed us much more) |
Re: Mike Williams out for season? (rumor)
I really had high hopes for him at RG, and it is a loss, but just not like losing Chris Samuels at the beginning of the year. And since it happened now, they have alot of time to re-shuffle and get the first team line in sync.

My thoughts exactly. |
Re: Mike Williams out for season? (rumor)
Is his career over from this? Or is it something that can be healed and he may one day play again?
|
Re: Mike Williams out for season? (rumor)
With anti-coagulant medications, a good diet and keeping that weight down, I bet that he could play again. But since they are newly discovered, and so close to cardiac tissue, breaking off of the vein or arterial walls and travelling to the heart could spark an MI, but now with the clot busting medications available, I wouldnt be surprised to see him as a backup next year. And being on blood thinners doesn't automatically bar you from participating in contact sports, either.

Mike Williams Ruled Out from 2010 NFL Regular Season Published on July 29, 2010 by Billgerber Washington Redskins offensive lineman, Mike Williams was ruled out from the 2010 NFL regular season due to blood clot in his lungs. So, Washington Redskins will commence their training camp with out Mike Williams on Thursday. Mike Williams will miss the 2010 NFL regular season after a blood clot was found in his lungs and doctors advised him that he should not play NFL for a year. The X-rays report tells that a blood clot was formed in his calf. Mike Williams Ruled Out from 2010 NFL Regular Season | NFL News World
So this confirms it. BMW had a deep venous thrombosis (DVT). This is a blood clot in the LEG, which traveled in his case up through his veins and into his lungs. These are common after surgery, in people that don't move for a while (ie. long plane rides), and a couple of other reasons.. In his case, his obesity may have played a role. I bet it started with pain in his leg and/or swelling, which led to an ultrasound which found a blood clot. Then they got a CT scan of his lungs and showed a pulmonary embolus (blood clot in lungs). A blood clot in the lung (PE) can be life-threatening, so he was lucky. Either way, in an unexplained DVT/PE, he would be on blood thinners for about 6 months (the article says they are planning 12 months - they are being conservative). After that, he should be completely fine. So this had NOTHING to do with his heart. There is NO chance of heart attack with this. AND medically he should be able to play again without restrictions next year -- IF he wants to and IF he's in shape and IF the Redskins want him back.. Wish him the best, must be frustrating for him. |
Re: Mike Williams out for season? (rumor)
Thanks for the proper explaination Etha. Good to read he can make a full recoery. Maybe not to play football again but at least to have a decent quality of life once he is medically cleared.

Re: Mike Williams out for season? (rumor)
Blood clots are nothing to fool with though, they CAN migrate up to the heart and if they do...nice knowing you, Mike. I'd had a family member nearly die from a blood clot in the arm, which is closer to the heart then a leg clot, but it's still not a minor issue for BMW.

Re: Mike Williams out for season? (rumor)
You know I am as much of a Skins fan as the rest of us but why is it that some people are compelled to place the word "Hail" or "HTTR" at the end of every post or even in their sig. I mean one of them can give you an update on what they had for breakfast this morning and sure enough the next word is "Hail"
