OK. Walter is 2 or 3 times better. I did notice that you don't have a candidate who is worse.

There are teams with 2 or 3 QB's on their roster better than him.
What is rediculous about #1? I didn't see anything in there that was rediculous.
Nothing ridiculous? What isn't ridiculous about #1?

Let me go point by point so you can understand.
1. Mark Brunell is washed up and is the reason we are 3 - 6. For many of these folks, it's become personal. Their hatred of Brunell is so strong that is is bleeding on to Gibbs. If Mark Brunell led us to 7 straight wins and a Super Bowl victory, they would still find things to complain about. I suspect that some of them were almost pleased when Bunell threw the pick today. A further subset of this group believes that there is something untoward about the fact that Gibbs and Brunell are both Christians. Another subset consists of the "Fedayeen Ramsey". They were horrified that Ramsey was benched during last year's Chicago game and have never recovered.
Point #1: Brunell is not the only reason we are 3-6. Does a 30th ranked D ring a bell at all? Injuries? There are many factors that play into the fact we are 3-6. It's not all on one guy. If you really do think that I'm sorry but you are just an ignorant fool.

Point #2: If by the grace of God we somehow managed to run the table and win the Super Bowl and you STILL complained, I'm sorry but that's just beyond ridiculous and you have let your personal feelings taint your fandom beyond repair.

Point #3: This whole thing about Gibbs and Brunell being linked by religion is assanine. Ramsey is also a Christian and that certainly didn't help him any. And what's more disturbing is this strange fascination that some people have with Ramsey. A guy that mind you is riding the bench in NY right now and let's face it, with Pennington playing well and a promising young rookie there with him he stands little chance of ever being the starting QB there. I guess the Jets are also just missing the boat on this next Joe Montana.
I know some people are going to FREAK if Campbell doesn't start next week, but in the big picture how much playing time he gets this year is not going to make or break his development. Yes he does need some playing time and we do need to get a snapshot of him to see what we have to build on for next year, but at the same time Gibbs clearly has a long term plan for Campbell that isn't totally dependent on how much he plays this year.
That makes a lot of sense. We moved up to draft a kid in the first round but we need to show that we are going to fight by keeping the washed up injured bum in.

I was not able to see last Sunday's game; however, I am moving from #3 towards #2. I think JC is still a project. But since every game has to be a Redskin victory or the fans call for wholesale changes in personnel (change a player and the victory will happen philosophy ... a variation of the instant gratification syndrome), put JC into the lineup. I don't think it will matter if JC is under center for this season. If JC plays and does not win the rest of the games then at least we can justify getting rid of all our QBs in the offseason because they did not win in 2006.

Is this really where we are going??

Well we don't know do we? Why not? Because they keep suiting up the guy who has proven that he cannot get it done.

We know that Brunell cannot get the job done. Anyone who argues that he can needs to be in a padded cell.

So let's see if one of the other two can win before we ruin the 2007 season.

Let me put it this way. Brunell can (even though I prefer Campbell) get it done WITH a defense like we had in 2004 or 2005. With THIS YEAR, we have to have an offense capable of FAR outscoring the other team since our defense can't stop anyone right now.

With THIS team, Brunell is not capable of getting it done.

We scored 3 points yesterday. Our offense has scored 3 points in every division road game this year.

The 85 bears combined with the 2001 Ravens wouldn't be able to win under those circumstances.

I'm definately a #2. Any chance for a playoff birth is basically over. If we consider Campbell the future of the team, isn't it time we see what he can do? Isn't this the ONLY reasonable thing to do at this point? I think any other decision is ridiculous. However, I was listening to triple x radio this morning. Apparently the prevailing thought is that if a switch takes place, it will be Collins and not Campbell. What a nightmare.

oh i know he isn't a lifesaver, he won't fix the defense. he may be able to score some more or keep them off the field a bit more, but he won't fix it.

JC still represents hope though, something the fans and the team have simply lost to this point. Everything JC would do, would be a step for the future. Brunell inspires nothing but frustration to everybody, and i don't know why the team would want to fight and risk injury on a lame duck quarterback who's helped put them in this position.

i noticed you only agreed to one of Tripp's paragraphs, what did you think about the rest? do you think we OWE Brunell a better departure than that?

Re: Take 70Chip's Mark Brunell Rorshock Test

I previously thought that the best thing to do with Campbell was to wait until the Skins had 7 losses and then start him. They would be completely out of playoff contention so why not at that point.

However, after watching Brunell yesterday, it's an insult (or indict to Campbell not to start him know. How can Campbell not give us a better chance to win than Brunell?

The facts on Brunell are plain and simple--he is not that mobile anymore and he is limited in the type of throws he can make. He limits his mistakes mostly by taking high percentage dumpoffs (either due to lack of his own confidence, in ability or scheme, or lack of confidence by his OC). Finally, he plays to avoid contact. This is the most troubling because even older QBs like Favre, Johnson, and Bledsoe stand in the pocket and deliver the ball while getting drilled.

If Campbell cannot at least do what Brunell offers--then we should all be very worried about Campbell. What Gibbs is then saying is they made a mistake in trading up to draft him. If Campbell is not ready now, with the current QB play, then I can only conclude that he is a bust (if I trust the coaches).

Re: Take 70Chip's Mark Brunell Rorshock Test
I'm still a #3 because absolutely no QB in the league would have won this game for us, but Brunell was dreadful today. He was put in the worst possible conditions (Bad weather, on the road, in the division, Portis out, trailing early, questionable playcalling, defensive scheme that attacks) and played exactly the way I would expect a guy put in those conditions to play. Ties the first Dallas game for ineptitude, although the deck was stacked heavily against him. The interception should never have been thrown.

I wouldn't make the switch this week for multiple reasons. Number 1, you don't want to break Jason Campbell in on the road when the team isn't playing well. Number 2, it would be a significant injustice to Mark Brunell to bench him after forcing him into the situation that the coaching staff and team did. Number 3, we will never play another game that is this difficult to win this season. So although we have next to nil chance to win the division, a wild card berth is a possibility if we win out against a schedule where we have all of our tough games at home, where weve been right in every contest over the last two seasons. It still would be a bad decision to try to have Campbell save the season.

The switch is certainly on the horizion though. If we as a team can't beat Tampa Bay, the switch should be made. I'm guessing this is the way Gibbs is thinking right now.

But if you are relying on a 2nd year inexpirenced player to save the franchise, you have another thing coming.
I understand what he's saying but I disagree about us owing Brunell anything. He's had his time and now it's clearly time to start thinking about a future that doesn't involve him.

Regarding the switch and when it will happen, I said a few weeks ago that I don't expect the change to be made until we hit 7 losses.

Re: Take 70Chip's Mark Brunell Rorshock Test

We certainly do not owe Brunell anything. Once you cannot competently perform your job, you lose your job. Business is business. I do agree that a change will probably not be made until we've hit 7 loses. If there is a change before this, it will be Collins rather than Campell, as the coaches will want to see if we have a better chance with an Al Saunders guy running the Saunders system. I'd hate to see this happen though

I'm a #2. Before the Eagles game, I was still a #3, but now I'm definitely teetering on the #2 fence.

However, what we all think is completely different from the reality that is Brunell will most likely start against Bucs, and even the Panthers before the Skins are mathematically out of it. We can all scream for Campbell until we pass out from exhaustion, but Gibbs and Saunders have a game plan, and will execute it until a playoff bid is completely lost. Campbell is going to get some playing time this year, but the question is when.

Oh, and I cracked up about the Andrew Walter comparison, here are the stats:

Brunell (#10)
162-260 (62.3%), 1789 yds, 8 TDs, 4 INTs, 3-6 record, Offense has scored 165 points, 48 of 165 from TD passes

Walter (#34, last among Qualified Leaders)
104-216 (48.1%), 1305 yds, 3 TDs, 9 INTs, 2-7 record, Offense has scored 105 points, 18 of 105 from TD passes
