Take 70Chip's Mark Brunell Rorshock Test

I would say that fans fall into one of three categories.

1. Mark Brunell is washed up and is the reason we are 3 - 6. For many of these folks, it's become personal. Their hatred of Brunell is so strong that is is bleeding on to Gibbs. If Mark Brunell led us to 7 straight wins and a Super Bowl victory, they would still find things to complain about. I suspect that some of them were almost pleased when Bunell threw the pick today. A further subset of this group believes that there is something untoward about the fact that Gibbs and Brunell are both Christians. Another subset consists of the "Fedayeen Ramsey". They were horrified that Ramsey was benched during last year's Chicago game and have never recovered.

2. Mark Brunell is not the entire reason we are 3 - 6, but when you take into account his play, his age, and the investment we have in Campbell, it adds up to a switch. These folks have nothing against Brunell and understand that every team cannot have a Peyton Manning, but believe that Campbell should play now. There most compelling argument is the need Campbell has for playing time and the fact that our playoff hopes are basically gone. They sometimes wonder if it is possible for Campbell to be WORSE than Brunell. Today they thought that. Powerful logic.

3. Mark Brunell still gives us the best chance to win. These folks are becoming rarer by the day. They will concede that Brunell has his faults but they suspect that Campbell must not be all that or else he would be playing already. Yes he has trouble with pressure, but the O-Line needs to play better. Yes he throws short too much, but Al Saunders is at fault as well. These folks consider the #1s to be rather unsophisticated and irrational. Any suggestion that Gibbs is biased towards Brunell is itself evidence of bias. Often these folks will fall back on my favorite gem: "Brunell is a quarterback who needs everyone around him to play well".

I was a #3 until today when I became a #2. How about the rest of y'all?

Same here. #3 but now after today I'm at #2. If Campbell can't go 2-5 (the equivalent of MB's record so far) then we are screwed either way but at least we can move on with next year's preparations in finding a decent QB.

Yeah, I'll now officially go on record...

It's time for Jason Campbell....

Why does 2005 make me so angry. I kept thinking.... "it's coming... the turn-around is coming".... We'll see what happends, but right now I've lost patience, and I'm ready to start screaming and yelling and shooting in the air. It's time for JC, if not only for entertainment value.

I'm not sure which category I fit into. I've said for a long time that Brunell sucks and I'd like to see Campbell in. He's looked awful in our losses. However, I understood Gibbs' decision to stick by him until we were mathmatically eliminated from the playoff hunt. He did enough in the games against the Texans, Jags, an Cowboys to justify his starting.

Now that we are basically eliminated from the playoff race, I cannot understand how ANYONE could argue that Brunell should stay in the game.

Re: Take 70Chip's Mark Brunell Rorshock Test

If we had last years defense, I'd be a number 3 guy.

We don't have last years defense. We don't get turnovers. We don't tackle well. We have problems against the pass, and the run.

The defense we have requires that we have a QB that will go out and win the game for us. Brunell is not that guy. Gibbs has a pretty good resume and he has never required his QB to be that guy so there is no Ramsey/Christian/Personal issue going on here. I'm not a number 1.

Number 2 is the only resonable choice left to make. I'm not benching Brunell for bad play, I'm just ready to start Campbell's on the job training.

I first typed, "It sounds like you're a pretty solid #2" but I don't want this to go off in that direction, so I will instead say that you are "squarely in the #2 camp".

Re: Take 70Chip's Mark Brunell Rorshock Test

It only took this year's first game to convince me MB has lost it.

By the way, J.Campbell is a Christian as well as MB, HOF Coach Gibbs, and many Redskins players.

Re: Take 70Chip's Mark Brunell Rorshock Test

I'm a solid #2 now. It's clear that Brunell - who has disguised his inability to zip it downfield at all anymore until the last few games - has done all he can with this team. He has thrown the checkdowns with great accuracy. We needed more than checkdowns today, and he didn't have it. The only passes that have gone longer than 20 yards have been thrown by Randle El, and the "long balls" to Cooley last week and Lloyd this week had nothing on them at all.

He isn't losing these games - we find planty of ways to do that. But he damn sure isn't winning them, and we need to find out if anyone can win them... now.

Re: Take 70Chip's Mark Brunell Rorshock Test

I'll say #2. But a big reason is that I don't think Brunell needs to go through this anymore. I almost feel sorry for him. The man has had a career few QBs have had. He doesn't need this anymore. All that was left for him was a ring. That isn't realistically going to happen now.

I definately feel bad for the guy. As much as I disdain him for what he has done on the field, he's been a classy guy.
