Re: Shanahan presser thread
Few things:
1) Skins need to go back to Carlisle for training camp where they belong. 2) I think Shanny will give Portis every opportunity to stay and get with the program or he'll be gone before you can say Redskin One. They're going to have a little heart-to-heart and I think the first time Portis mentions Mr. Snyder, I think that will que Shanny to dump him. 3) I think we're looking at 10-6 next year. Not because Shanny is so great, but because we won't drop those games we're suppose to win in the closing minutes. I'm pretty encouraged.
whoa, hold your horses there...I am as optimistic as anyone but a 6 game swing, I don't see it 8-8, 9-7 at best |

i think so. but look where we are now. alot of heart ache but it might be worth it |
Re: Shanahan presser thread
Guys I think it's unrealistic and unlikely that Snyder will completely recede into the background, kick his feet up on his desk and say I'll see you guys in December. That ain't happening. EVERY owner is involved to some extent.
What I think is different this time around is Snyder won't exert pressure to bend the GM's will to what he wants and thinks should be the direction. Snyder is now one voice in the overall process of making things click. He's no longer, if I could use this term, Alpha and Omega. |

Again considering how we lost many of our games, I don't think a six/five game swing is unrealistic. That's just me. Many of the games we lost, we weren't outplayed. I think we all can agree on that. |

you know what...I am thinking over all the losses right now, and I think you're right. New Orleans, Dallas, Philly...we clearly outplayed them and lost because of 1 or 2 plays and a s*** kicker. Plus the losses to Detroit and KC should just not have happened and that's 5 games right there.. I recant my statement, I don't think 10-6 is that far out of reach actually |
Re: Shanahan presser thread
Teams going worst to first isn't uncommon, so why not us? Gotta have hope. :)

BTW MattyK, can we expect a Mike/Kyle Shanahan avatar pretty soon? haha

Remember, Miami had a 10 game swing when Parcells came in, and I think our team has more raw potential then they did. Alot of our issues revolved around self inflicted wounds, and poor coaching. I don't see those being as likely today as they were the last game of the season. |
Re: Shanahan presser thread
Dang you guys go from our whole team sucks and cut everyone to 10/6 in about 10 seconds.
|
Re: Shanahan presser thread
Wow...I have to say that I am very encouraged by what I heard. Also, did you guys know that Shanny has veto power in terms of personnel decisions, a privilege that DS has never given other head coaches?
Let's remember that he had that in Denver and that's basically what got him fired. I'd prefer that he leaves the personel side to the front office. I'm fine with him having control over who stays and who goes. But I don't want a HC that wears too many hats. He needs to come in here and install some leadership, discipline and fix this high school offense. |

Exactly, I'm not saying we're going to the Super Bowl or NFC Championship or anything, but a playoff berth is reasonable to expect in Shanahan's first season. I know one thing, the NFC East is going to be hella tough next year. |

I think Snyder understands now that his intense participation of the past is the wrong approach. He still will have some involvement and still has things to learn (like patience), but to me this is the most important development with the Skins since Snyder took over. We'll still make mistakes. But at least they will be the mistakes of football professionals rather than those of owners who play Madden in real life. |

Anyone else find Shannahan's quote from Marty, in that he said "if you have a chance to work for Snyder, take it." surprising?

I think now more then ever that Marty's main beef was Vinny. If anything I'm starting to think that Vinny was the Dick Cheney of the Redskins. |
Re: Shanahan presser thread
Maybe Shotty blames whispering-in-the-wings Vinny, not Snyder, for how things went down.
But, yeah, I was surprised to hear that. |

No trophies either. I liked that. I really wonder what they're going to do with Clinton Portis? We gotta get the scoop on that. SmootSmack, what's the word on the street, bro? What a message that would send if they cut CP loose. |
Re: Shanahan presser thread
I think a lot of us are forming our opinion of Snyder based on speculation. We don't know the full extent of his involvement when it came to hiring coaches and bringing in players. I'm sure that he will allow Shanahan and Allen to run this football team. These are guys are great football minds. Why does everyone assume that Snyder will interfere with them running our football team?

SmootSmack, what's the word on the street, bro? What a message that would send if they cut CP loose.
I'll bet they wait for March 6, the day they go officially uncapped, to turn Portis loose. It would be nice if it were sooner, though. |

And Snyder was like Obama thinking he could fix everything with money. |

SmootSmack, what's the word on the street, bro? He'll be looking for a certain level of commitment from Portis. |

Re: Shanahan presser thread
Seems like everything went wrong because of Vinny. Now that he's gone the team could potentially interview Gregg's son Blake (ironically an offensive guy) for a position with the team. I wonder if Vinny was the one who tried to sue the season ticket holders.
Redskins interested in Gregg Williams' son Redskins owner Daniel Snyder fired defensive coordinator Gregg Williams after the 2007 season, ending Williams's successful four-year tenure with the team. Now, it appears that a member of Williams's family could join the first staff of new Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan. Shanahan is interested in interviewing Blake Williams, Gregg's son, for a position, two league sources said recently. Williams, who holds a degree from Princeton, currently is an offensive coaching assistant for the New Orleans Saints, for whom his father is the defensive coordinator. Blake assists the Saints' offensive coaches "in all aspects of game preparation, including film breakdown, player and unit scouting reports, the creation of playbooks and during practice," according to the team's website. He served as a coaching intern with the Redskins during the 2006-07 season and last season worked as a defensive assistant under his father with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Obviously, with the Saints seeded first in the NFC playoffs, they're a little busy right now, and the Redskins would have to seek permission to interview Blake. But Shanahan apparently has been interested in Blake for quite some time, and he plans to move aggressively to complete his staff, the sources said. -- Jason Reid |
Re: Shanahan presser thread
Nice Dirtbag, I had no idea about GW's son. If he's part of the Saints offense it can't be bad.

Sorry, firstdown, but this statement errs in many ways. |
Re: Shanahan presser thread
I love how much emphasis Shanahan put on revamping the scouting department, both for college and for the pros...hopefully we wont have any more disasters like Lloyd, Archuleta, JT etc.

The only err in my statement is that Snyder used his own money. |

You know in JC response to CP he spoke as if he was going to be here next year so maybe he is.

Re: Shanahan presser thread
If you watch Mark Schlereth on NFL Live on ESPN today, you will hear him say that in his time off Shanny reflected about his personnel mistakes and vowed to value the inputs of others more in the future when it comes to roster decisions.
For what it is worth. |

im agree , we lost 6 or 7 games last year by 6 points or less, with a good swift kick in the ass i think 10 wins is not out of the question, shanahan also said rebuilding is not what we are gonna do, i would be happy if we beat Dallas twice myself |

I think in many ways, that accomplishment alone would define a very successful season lol |
