Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
This should happen immediately (pasted and modified from another board usually inferior to this one):
1. Fire Haslett. 2. Fire Smith. 3. Get the WRs on the jugs machines. 4. Get the WRs on the jugs machines. 5. Watch tape and figure out who in our secondary doesn't start next week. 6. Bench Riley. 7. Royster, don't count on playing much if Helu's healthy, unless you get your act together. 8. Kyle, I know the drops hurt, but the past two games have still been pretty bad. 9. DL and OL, watch tape and see if anyone needs to sit next to Polumbus on the bench for awhile. Otherwise you guys and Rg3, sorry the rest of the team let you down. 10. Danny Snyder, you know what would make this season the perfect clusterflop? Firing Shanahan even if this season doesn't turn around. Nobody will want to coach here except a Jim Zorn type, and we don't have a team that made the playoffs last season like Zorn did. |

If you truly believe this team to have no talent, it's a bigger indictment of the regime than I make. Do you realize this? Where we lack talent offensively is at RT. The sputtering offense is a direct result of really, really poor coaching. We are totally predictable at this point. The other big issue is whether our pass catchers continue to trust the Shanahans. Mike/Kyle's inability or refusal to spread the field and create space for our pass-catchers, thereby constantly putting them in the position to get destroyed at the point of the catch, is the most bizarre thing I've seen for a long time in pro football. It's weirder than the Tebow nonsense, but because it only involves a couple coaches nobody takes serious there just isn't a lot of attention given. Defensively, this group as it stands today could be middle of the pack. Not great, certainly not elite. But middle of the pack. Poor scheme (the 3-4), poor play-calling and really poor adjustments are the difference. |
Zorn never had 6 quality starters out due to injury either. That's a lot of production gone.
You never use injuries as an excuse. Shanahi regime is under .350 winning percentage. Sounds like hall of fame numbers. I had a .375! |

Agree with your observation, but let's be realistic Shannahan is not going to fire his son, period. |

This is 4-6 win talent. Name any of our players that are top 5 at their position? Maybe Trent Williams and that's probably it. |
Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
You know, this subject may want to be revisited at the end of the season. This team still has the look of an under coached team. The penalties are simply discipline. As much as I want this crew to work out. There are problems with this team and they are not solely because of talent.
Also the whole this play worked once so let's run it again, isn't so great when the defense knows it and stuffs the second play. The offense is regressing. |
Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
I voted to fire Shanny now, granted I am extremely ticked off after going through this gut wrenching 3 game losing streak. Thankful for the bye week so that I won't have to suffer through another loss. If this team losses another 10+ games this year I don't see how Shannahan can survive, this is the NFL after all, as Glanville once said (Not For Long).

Payton is going to Dallas, he lives there and he wants to coach there

Provided that is true its another reason he never should have been hired. This blows..... |

Many a coach will want to coach the uber talent known as RG3. Not Many coaches are as inefficient as an aging and overrated Mike Shanahan "lets hire our family" regime, during which time should his OCoordinator screw up, there is NO way he would hold him accountable for letting a rook continually bail his sorry ass out week after week. The only reason we are not 1-9 IS RG3, and you better believe that son, cause the rest of our team hasn't really done ANYTHING to prove otherwise. There is not a coach out there I don't think that wouldn't want an owner willing to spend, and a once in a lifetime talent like RG3. No way you could convince me otherwise, but this is a convo board, so please try. |
I want Andy Reid. That's right I said Andy Reid if he's fired.

Fire Shanahan, don't fire Shanahan...does it really matter?

This season is over, it will be a miracle if the team finishes 7-9. After this season it does matter. Obviously the Alfred Morris pick was huge, but how many running backs is Shanahan going to draft each year? With all of the other holes on the team what is the fascination with drafting so many RBs? You look at the NY Giants in the 2005 Draft the only had four draft picks 2nd Round (43 selection) Correy Webster DB 3rd Round (74 selection) Justin Tuck DE 4th Round (110 selection) Brandon Jacobs RB 6th Round (186 selection) Eric Moore DE Three of those four were solid hits, Tuck obviously being a big time stud. The Skins just don't seem to hit on their drafts like that, period, which is why the team is where it is record wise. |

You should retract that, especially if you act too young to remember what a joke the coaching search was that led to Jim Zorn being hired, then promoted to HC not that long ago. After Snyder ditched Fassel and nobody else would come here.
The agreement to fire Cerrato changed perception of Snyder enough to bring in Shanny. Firing him at the end of this season just sends the message that Snyder really hasn't changed since. |
