Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
This is a really good point. For the "fire" crowd you want to bring in a new coach with a new system with no first round picks the next two seasons to build with. That's brilliant.
This thread is pointless because Shanahan isn't going anywhere until his contract is out, unless it is of his choosing. Drafting RGIII locked in 2013, nobody is getting fired offensively and risking screwing up the best thing this franchise has had since Sammy Baugh. There will be significant changes on the staff but those wanting a new head coach will be sorely disappointed.
It's going to be a new system next year even if Shanahan survives. The thing to avoid is having Kyle leave to take another position next year, changing systems, and then having to conclude what we already know about Mike in 2013, forcing another system change in 2014. Just accept the inevitable, and get the long term solution in here. One change, get it right. |
Other than Gibbs... who is?
That said I recall plenty of folks not being big fans of Gibbs 2.0. Remember the "he backed into the playoffs twice" stuff? Unless someone can come in here and turn things around on a dime and do no wrong, we're always going to hear the same crap.
I have eternal hope that the next hire is the right guy for the fanbase and franchise. The Redskins are not an easy job for a coach. It takes a special person to win here. |
Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
Oh come on, all the great things he has done? The amount of times i have heard how much better off we are than three years ago? The constant referincing to the 20th century Super Bowls? Coaches change all the time in every major sport. They succeed or they fail. It isnt the "changing" that leads to the same old shit its the "wrong decisions" that lead to the same old shit. Bound to land a solid coach eventually. Hoped Shanny would work out. He isnt. He wont. If we win 6 or less i say thats that.
Quoted for bottom line truth.
And if you watched the game today you would know better than to use "this team" and "superior" in the same sentence.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It was....not pretty, no doubt. |
Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
Honestly I felt strongly in 2008 that Jim Fassel was exactly what this team needed. Or Mike Sherman. I think someone who's already been a coach but is looking for a second chance to get his first ring would be ideal.
Oh well, we all know who our next coach is anyway
SS, I am curious, who? I now feel there needs to be a change. The below rant is my feelings after todays game. After todays game and seeing the play calling and the performance of the players I do think it is time for a (Coaching) change. I can handle the Rookie QB making mistakes, not the veterans. The guys are to slow and missing assignments. This is a direct reflection of the coaching staff and the FO. At some point all jobs are held to be accountable. Coach Shannahan is not getting it done, and play calling is absolutely pathetic and getting worse. I understand that the team has had injuries, but so does all the other teams that seem to find away to find away to win. We just get worse, the Redskins are going for a 6 to 7 win season, which agian is where we have been for last 15- 20 years. I know that we are all getting sick of this. Thoughts? |
Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
Goat we lack talent in several areas...RT, WR, D-line, LB, and the entire secondary...oh yeah, the coaching sucks. This is 4-6 win talent. Name any of our players that are top 5 at their position? Maybe Trent Williams and that's probably it.
Top 5 at their position: Offense - RG3 - Morris - Trent Williams - Montgomery and or Chester, who's been almost totally solid this season - Moss as a slot WR Defense (current scheme) - London (he needs some scheme help in that he shouldn't ever be covering 1 on 1 on the edges, but London is still a monster in middle run stopper and actually has great ball skills as a zone cover guy in the middle) - Kerrigan - Bowen Defense as it should be, in a 4-3 scheme, would add another top 5 in that Cofield will make an excellent d tackle. |
Payton is going to Dallas, he lives there and he wants to coach there
I've seen/heard this several places now! Dallas will be soooooo good under Sean Peyton. |

People thought that with Parcells too. |
People thought that with Parcells too.
Dallas will have to find a replacement for romo soon and people that think Tony isn't any good, he's better than anyone they've had since aikman |

Oh well, we all know who our next coach is anyway
So is it true that Gruden was asked prior to Shanny to come aboard and he turned us down (due to no QB, Snyder's rep and mostly loving his ESPN gig)? |
I'd love gruden but he ain't leaving ESPN

Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
This is why I say Shanahan should not have been hired in the first place. He's not the right coach for this organization/fan base.
That is fantastic!! Now the fans are the problem!! What gets me is Mike is so ready to put it on the players. I listened to him last week and he said several times this is where vets step up and rally the team. What...the...hell...does he think his job is? Given the last three games it's painfully obvious Mike has lost this team, and deservedly so. |
For those that say a coaching change would hurt us..
Look at TB, Indianapolis, Miami |

Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
If you truly do not think the team in place today is not superior to the team MS inherited, you certainly are not up for....any realistic discussion.
You miss the point entirely. It's debatable whether Mike has built a more talented roster than the one he inherited, but the debate is irrelevant. He doesn't win regardless. |
