NFL offseason 1.0 thread
Initially I was surprised about Romo retiring, but it makes sense. The guy had some pretty serious injuries, and he's probably looking at some decent $$ doing TV.

Re: NFL offseason 1.0 thread
did we get any compensation when deion sanders came back to play for the ravens in 2004?
how did that work, dead cap, rights, etc.? |
Re: NFL offseason 1.0 thread
Man, the Houston Texans are flipping screwed...
So Jerry gets everything he wants - as usual. I don't understand why Tony, who was a loyal contributor for years, couldn't ask for and be granted his release since he is no longer in the team's plans. Regardless of what Tony thinks he wants to do now, he should force the Cowboys to release him so he can be free to go after another football opportunity if he changes his mind. He earned it.
I hear you. But replace 'the owner' with 'Jerry' from your statement and that is what was collectively bargained. The same thing is going on in Oakland right now. Raiders toying with the idea of bringing Marshawn Lynch out of retirement. But then the Raiders would owe the Seahawks draft compensation since Seattle retains the rights to Beast Mode. I do not see Seattle releasing Lynch so he can return to the field. |

Not to go off topic, but the NFL players could get more out of their collective bargaining agreement if they would let go of the whole issue of player discipline. Not that I don't think it is important, but the NFL gets a lot of concessions in other areas (including money issues) because a few players make discipline an major negotiation item. Ok, back to the topic at hand. |

Uh hold the phone...... About 15 minutes ago the Cowboys RELEASED Tony Romo. If he was released, and did not retire, he is free to sign with any team in the league. No compensation to Dallas. Romo can now safely have a 'change of heart' and an about-face on broadcasting and decide to play football and sign with any team in the league. |
Re: NFL offseason 1.0 thread
much ado about nothing. he is free to play/ or try tv. no scandal here

No scandal? Damn! Well then, it's back to CNN and Fox News for me. Gotta have my daily scandal. |
Re: NFL offseason 1.0 thread
Eagles and Ravens make a trade.
Per @AdamSchefter: So here's the deal: Ravens traded DT Tim Jernigan and third-round pick (No. 99) for Eagles third-round pick (No. 74), per source. |

I have a feeling that a lot of people close to him were probably trying to convince him to retire. |

he's a smart gm, like they have in new england. similar to chandler jones and jamie collins, trade them for something while you still have their rights - but before you have to commit big money. |

Reading the link I was under the impression that Simms was a good analyst,I have never heard of any complaints about him,to me he always seemed to be fair and on the money. |

It's Show Business, Baby! Phil Simms is an excellent analyst but CBS is betting on Tony Romo as a "TV Star". |

Simms catches a lot of flack but so does just about everyone in broadcasting. I guess CBS knows something about Romo the rest of us don't.

it's hard for me to tolerate phil simms, his voice alone is bad - his excited opinions are worse. but, he's not as bad as collinsworth. nightmare scenario would be collinsworth and simms together in the booth. i miss john madden. |
Re: NFL offseason 1.0 thread
my most hated tandem is obvious, buck and aikman. Collingsworth is awful as well. Simms doesnt really bother me. But this romo crap might just take the cake.

i don't mind buck and aikman, i'm not sure why because they can be pretty annoying. it may be the simple fact that i greatly favor the audio on fox to the audio on cbs. is it just me or are the cbs games much quieter? the crowd noise levels much lower than those on fox. to me, it takes away from the excitement of the game. |

I didn't think Simms was to terrible. Collinsworth has grown into a pretty good broadcaster along with Aikmen. IMO, this just isn't the right fit for Romo. Im really surprised he didn't try for a couple more years in Denver or Houston. |

Per @AdamSchefter: After eight seasons, DT Terrance "Pot Roast" Knighton is retiring from the NFL at age 30 to pursue a career in coaching, he said. Great run.

Re: NFL offseason 1.0 thread
So free agency is almost dead and we don't have any big DLine moves and no good NT yet.. While we're waiting for the draft..
Any updates on Phil Taylor? He's 29yrs old and coming off injury, so I assume chances are slim he makes any meaningful impact -- but wanted to see if anyone had info / updates.. |

While tragic in every case, this is much more common than people realize. We have commercials and memes about drunk driving and everything else, there really truly should be some sort of PSA regarding this. A couple of years ago a family at our Church had this happen, the father was getting in his car to back out of the driveway and ran over his son, he died almost immediately. Very Very sad |
