Re: Ladell Betts contract extension

just saw the interview with betts on why he re-signed. really like this guy, he said his role was going to be bigger next year than earlier this year when portis was healthy. i liek this. like i said earlier. i expect 15-25 carries per game from portis, and 10-20 per game for betts, kinda similar to how pittsburgh used bettis and parker. great deal for a deserving guy

Now we have to get Dockery--it seems we're less active on that front. I would have thought that Dock was at least (if not more) important to the skins. Wonder why the hesitation?

From the Post:

Gibbs said the team has been in talks with its other remaining prominent potential free agent, starting guard Derrick Dockery, but was unsure if a deal would be completed before free agency. "You never know what course it's going to take," Gibbs said

It's very possible he's seeking Chris Samuels or Randy Thomas type numbers, and of course he's not worth it. I just have a hunch he's looking for massive numbers. That could explain it.

Dock might be interested in testing the FA waters and who can blame him?

The good news for us is there are a handful of pretty solid guards that should hit the open market this offseason if Dock were to leave.
what do you think he would have gotten on the open market??
Exactly, he would have gotten PAID by somebody else in dire need of a RB, and regardless of what anyone here thinks of Ladell, his career numbers and performance filling in for Portis this season would have been enough to get him big bucks -- at least Lamont Jordan '05 bucks, which was 5 years, $27 million, including $11m guaranteed. Betts is having a better year this season than Jordan ever had before bolting for Oaktown.

So, Betts leaves and we're gonna find a quality, reliable RB2 who's a "True Redskin" like Joe needs, understands the offense, and is liked and respected by his teammates, for less than what we paid Betts?

your smoking some good s**t if you think someone in this league was going to pay betts that kind of money.
This shouldn't come as any sort of newsflash or anything, but TJ wasn't brought here as a long term solution.

Betts is a better all around player.
Only the resdkins would give away what they did for a player that they did not even play. This team is in such desperate need of a GM its hard to fathom.

You can even look at Chester Taylor last year, the Vikings gave him 5 years, $14M

the redskins stuck with dockery the last few years, even though his play was sub- par. and the reward for that is leaving? this is the thing i hate most about all sports, the lack of loyalty. and, yes, i know it goes both ways
