Ladell Betts contract extension
Just heard on redskins radio that Betts has agreed to a contract extension. I think this is great news to extend one of our own instead of going out and getting someone new. Congrats Betts, see you in '07. Terms not disclosed yet.

Re: Ladell Betts contract extension
its only a good move if the skins are paying him like a top flight back up. hopefully, no more over paying

Re: Ladell Betts contract extension
I think they had to have given him a nice contract and if it is just average for a back up then we will know that he really wanted to stay. What he is also doing in his playing time is showing that he can make the plays and this should give him more time on the field next year. That will help both hime and Portis and we will always have a fresh back in the game.

Re: Ladell Betts contract extension
to me it shows that betts will get more carries even when portis is healthy, splitting the load more evenly. id guess 20-25 carries for portis on average, 10-20 for betts, depending on how they are playing

Good, he's a solid backup and I really didn't think he'd want to return to that role after the good season that he's having.

Re: Ladell Betts contract extension
I'm still not entirely sold, but in the interest of continuity, I'm buying it. I like the fact that he's going to stay with team, I just don't think the guy has a whole lot of heart. I'm still not convinced he's more than a pretty good backup, I just hope they didn't give him a lot of money.

Betts could have been another Antonio Pierce waiting to happen. Besides if he goes, and Portis get's hurt again next year, who's next in line to carry the load? |

Re: Ladell Betts contract extension
This is very good news for the Redskins! I love Portis, but sometimes I feel Betts is a better fit with Gibbs' offense. Oooh, is that me thinking Gibbs' offense is returning next year and not Saunders? Sorry, thinking out loud.

As for Betts being a "better fit for Gibbs's system": Clinton is a better blocker and harder runner than Ladell Betts. He also gets in the end zone a lot more and fumbles less. Also, until this season, Clinton has stayed healthy far more consistently than Ladell. |

Re: Ladell Betts contract extension
I'm guessing a signing bonus of around $7 million. Just guessing though.
Good move. Keeps us from having to find a replacement. If we let him go, we would have been forced to sign a free agent for the same amount of money (if not more). Or use one of the few draft picks we have on a RB. And it's better to have continuity. This shores up the RB position in DC for years to come. Now we can turn our attention to other spots like CB.

Yeah but the term 'back-up' means different things for different teams. Some will go off the deep end and say that's too much, but if he's a starter somewhere else, will he get that kind of money? Probably so. |

Also, I've been critical of them for not keeping role players. So, I like the fact that he's staying, I just hope this doesn't convince them that they could be fine without Clinton. |
