If I was Dan Snyder...

1. Hire Tom Modrak as GM and cede all authority to him.

Our last 49 draft picks have yielded a total of two ProBowlers (Cooley and the late Sean Taylor). We need a top down change in culture so if I was Snyder--I fire myself and hand the keys to a football man like Modrak. Let him decide if his direct reports --Cerrato, Zorn, Scott Campbell-- should stay or go.

2. Lower my profile except when it comes to community/charity events.

3. Meet with Modrak 4 years to the date you hire him and determine if he deserves an extension or not. If so, great; if not, find a new GM and repeat 1-4...

I wouldn't mind him. In fact, I am almost less concerned about the actual person who would be GM--provided it wasn't some outlandish hire.

I am more an advocate of changing the front office business model that Snyder has. I mean we have changed coaches, schemes, players, stadiums, uniforms, and ticket prices over the past 15 years. I think the time has come for a change in the business model...

Screw Cowher he's over rated. 1 SB in 14 years, he's style is boring and conservative like Marty S. I can hear you guys who bitch about our Offense sucking crying if Cowher is hired here. Why don't we just hire Mike Holmgren? Mortensen had him on his rumor mill on him going to Dallas if they fire Phillips. If we fire Zorn he would never come here. I'm being sarcastic.

-Dre Moore was projected as high as the 3rd round by some draftsites

Players like Dre Moore from other teams practice squads are the players that good scouts and GM find.

Look at the practice squad players that we lost, out there helping someone elses team: Marcus Mason RB, Crummey C, Gatewood LB, Richardson DB, Devin Armoshado sp? WR

By the way, I watched him in the Emerald Bowl last year here in SF and he didn't do anything, looked like an average college player.

Jeremy Bates enters his third season on the Denver Broncos’ coaching staff in 2008 and serves as the club’s quarterbacks coach. Bates, who was Denver’s wide receivers/quarterbacks coach last season, owns six years of coaching experience in the NFL and worked with the New York Jets (2005) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2002-04) before joining the Broncos in 2006.

Bates was a key part of the Broncos’ offensive staff in 2007 as their wide receivers/quarterbacks coach, helping the offense rank fourth in the league in yards per play (5.7). A pair of second-year players flourished while working with Bates as Brandon Marshall totaled the third-most receptions (102 for 1,325 yds.) by a second-year player in NFL history and Jay Cutler posted the third-best completion percentage (63.6) for a season in Denver annals.

In his first year with the Broncos during the 2006 season, Bates was an offensive assistant and worked with Offensive Coordinator Rick Dennison in coaching the offensive line. The Broncos were one of only three teams in the NFL to have two running backs post at least 670 rushing yards with Tatum Bell (1,025 yds.) and undrafted rookie Mike Bell (677 yds.) both enjoying productive seasons.

As quarterbacks coach for the Jets in 2005, Bates instructed a unit that was forced to use five different passers because of injuries. Despite the adversity, New York’s quarterbacks helped the club improve toward the end of the year with first year starter Brooks Bollinger posting an 87.7 passer rating and leading the team to a 2-2 record in its final four games.

Bates, 32, was promoted to assistant quarterbacks coach for the Buccaneers in 2004 and worked closely with Head Coach Jon Gruden and Quarterbacks Coach John Shoop in the instruction and preparation of the team’s passers. In that capacity, Bates helped Brian Griese lead the NFL in completion percentage (69.3) in 2004 and set Buccaneers single-season records in that category along with passer rating (97.5) and yards per passing attempt (7.83).

Bates began his coaching career with Tampa Bay as an offensive quality control coach from 2002-03. Tampa Bay’s offense in 2003 was arguably the most productive in franchise history as Bates assisted a unit that set single-season records in total offense (340.8 ypg.) and passing offense (237.8 ypg.). In addition, the club ranked among the league’s top 10 in both categories in the same year for just the second time in Buccaneers annals.[/COLOR]

It doesn't hurt anything. Which suggests maybe they don't really want to sign anyone off the practice squads of other teams right now.

One of the rising stars in the NFL's coaching ranks, Pat Shurmur is in his seventh season as the Eagles quarterbacks coach and his tenth as a member of Andy Reid's staff.

In this role, the 43-year-old Shurmur has helped Donovan McNabb earn three of his five Pro Bowl berths. In 2004, McNabb turned in the most productive season of his career, establishing franchise records in QB rating (104.7), completion pct. (64.0), and passing yards (3,875). In fact, McNabb became the first quarterback in NFL history to have a season with 30-plus TD passes (31) and fewer than 10 interceptions (8).

""Pat's a very good football coach and teacher,"" said head coach Andy Reid. ""He's received a lot of attention from other teams to be a coordinator [in the last two years] that's going to happen for him.""

In 2002, Shurmur earned praise for his poise displayed after McNabb and Koy Detmer went down with injuries late in the season. Down to little-used A.J. Feeley, who had not started since his junior year at Oregon, the Eagles went 4-1 down the stretch. Feeley, a 5th-round draft choice in 2001, was traded to Miami in 2004 for a 2nd-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.

Similarly, Shurmur withstood another McNabb injury (torn ACL) in 2006 and helped back-up Jeff Garcia step into the starting role and lead the Eagles to a 6-2 record (including playoffs). Prior to his injury, McNabb was an early-season candidate for league MVP honors, topping the NFL charts in most passing statistical categories. Last year, McNabb played his best football to end the season (65% completion percentage, 6 TDs, 1 INT, 3-1 record in final four starts) after a season-ending knee injury one year earlier.

His first three seasons in Philadelphia were spent as the Eagles tight ends coach, helping develop three-time Pro Bowler Chad Lewis. [/COLOR]
