Shanahan told Hankerson to drop all those passes today FYI!

Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
Shanahan deserves time now that he has RG3, you can't just give up on him after he gets a rookie QB; plus it hurts our rookies progression. Shanahan is smart by buying himself some time by drafting RG3. If shanahan doesn't help this team in terms of wins next year, he'll definitely be a fired candidate. But I believe, and I hope Snyder has learned (plus Snyder went to great lengths to get Mike to coach this team) that you need to give a coach time to get his team together. Now that Mike has his QB, his time is starting now.

Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
The Joe Gibbs comparisons are not fair, in my opinion. Joe Gibbs is a redskins legendary coach and of course they were going to let Joe Gibbs finish out his contract. I mean seriously who dare FIRE JOE GIBBS FROM THE REDSKINS. Not even Dan Snyder is that stupid.
Joe Gibbs had flat out bad teams 2 out of the 4 seasons he was here. He didn't finish with the greatest overall record, so some other teams, that would warrant them releasing him. I think a better question to ask, instead of "Should we fire mike Shanahan", would be "how bad does this year have to go for Mike Shanahan to get fired?" I will go out on a limb and say I believe that only 3 or 4 wins this year, he has a good chance to get fired. That's 3 seasons full of nothing but regression. Sure we have a franchise QB, and that should buy him time, but Griffin can't be expected to be the whole team, which he is at this point. I think unless the redskins finish strong and go out 7-9 or 8-8, Shanahan's job could be in jeapordy. |

This is pretty much the bottom line no matter what we think of Shanny. Well said. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
at this point haslett has to go. if you want to get rid of shannahan, you need to make sure there's someone out there worth getting.
the biggest problem is there's no pass rush, which was supposed to be there. that'd cover some of our secondary issues where the talent simply does not exist. that's partially injuries (on the front 7) and partially a failure of the personal/management dept. to make sure we'd be okay back there. a lot of very no name guys were brought it, and the results have been pretty self evident. no #1 picks and an 18$mill hole from the cba penalty, it'll take some luck to land the FAs/immediate draft starters for S/CB/RT (if meriweather/jackson come back, those two can cover the other spot). hall has to go. i'm tired of the tantrums and horrible plays. combined with his contract numbers, it's a bad fit. still, with that said and covered, where's our pass rushing depth? we're obviously not very good (deep) there, and fletcher is starting to finally show some age too. /rant |

Gibbs doesn't count, cuz he's Gibbs. No one would dream of firing him. :P Although I remember people calling for his head too. |
Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
Love how we lose our first game of the season in which we played bad from start to finish and we're seriously debating whether to replace Mike Shanahan. Really? It's hard to believe guys like Goat are actually gaining ground here. I guess it really is the coaches' fault our receivers dropped an assload of passes today. I know! Next time let's just stop throwing the ball, that way we can avoid dropped passes completely!
The one constant this team has had this year is our bad defense. Obviously we know it needs more talent on it, and I think everybody is in agreement Haslett is done after the season, but do people really believe any changes we make mid-season will make a huge difference? How well did Sherman Lewis work out for us? Any recent mid-season pickups made a huge difference down the stretch for any team in the NFL? Damn people. This is the bed we've made. Now we just have to sleep in it. |

I think sometimes it is the coaches fault (Zero blitz, leaving D. Hall on an island will always linger in my memory) but I think today was on the shoulders of the players, sloppy play, sloppy execution, non-existent defense but coupled with weird desperation plays (RG3 as a WR. Paulsen on a TE screen). This whole thing was a collective loss. F's all around. |

I mean I really started to buy into the - we need a couple good secondary players and we are gonna be world beaters but the bottom line is we need WR's - moss is gone , morgan is ehh , Robinson and Hank are totally up in the air and Garcon is hurt and who knows with that injury? RT and O- line depth - Defensive depth across the board Punter That is alot of needs still before we can play with the big boys. Im not sure with the cap hit and lack of first round picks that is going to be possible over a two year period? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It is what it is at this point. The only reason for the thread today instead of last week is we're at the middle of the season now. The question would have been valid at any point. Which is why I said in the OP that I expect things to swing significantly in Shannys favor the further we get from today's game. I think that's natural. |
My two cents....
Do not fire Mike Shanahan! If you do, you will turn RGIII into another Jason Campbell....too many changes of coaches. Plus....I still think Shanahan is a good coach. I do agree that Hasslett does have to go though. KCT - "No Matter Where You Go, There You Are!" |

No my point was you said no coach since Norval has lasted more than 3 years, which Gibbs did. It wasn't so much about whether he deserved to be fired. I remember fans calling for Gibbs' head too, saying he was out-of-touch, etc. I definitely didn't want Gibbs to leave either. |

RG-3 - gee that was a tough call - nobody thought he was gonna be any good - really went out on a limb there A- mo - great great pick. TW - check Kerrigan- check Starting to run thin now. Probably firgetting a couple good ones but the bad picks outweigh them - so yeah im goin there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
