We got on the right side of a trade in 2008. The Falcons gave us two 2nd round picks and we ended up with three pass catchers. Look supporting parts are great but without a QB they're just luxuries. Look at any successful team, the QB is the true foundation. Other parts can easily be replaced but almost every move is made around the QB, at least when you have a good one.
Still don't like this move. Not at all. I would've kept the picks and drafted someone. RG3 has a ton of upside but that doesn't always translate to the pro game.

Actually that strategy can work to an extent, but it takes a lot of suffering, and its still not enough. You have to have a top 11 pick for at least 7 years straight. You'll have to go through many coaches, and even those fired coaches might have helped out the team in the future by straightening out a "problem child" player, and you hit on "THE ONE" coach and then with all that top 11 talent(although the QB plays well below his draft position), go to the NFC Championship game and then have the returner screw it up.

But it might not have mattered anyway if Tom Brady had his way.

I think if we sign 3 free agents WR, O lineman and maybe DB that are young and can contribute as starters we will make up for.the 3 picks. Well at least that's what I'll keep.telling myself :)

Mortgaging the future would be a gross understatement per this trade. Unless RGIII is a perennial pro-bowler by his second season and leading this team to the playoffs every year he plays more than 12 games, then this is an epic fail. As someone else put it, if RGIII isn't the answer for the Skins over the next decade this trade will be widely recognized as the worst in the modern era of the game.

I cannot even imagine the pressure this kid will feel come regular season...wouldn't wanna trade places w/ him for all the tea in China. The pressure surrounding the Skins QB is one reason I believe Manning, arguably the most mature QB in football, would be the better/best fit. This is flat scary.

One last thought: it's a bit concerning to me his girlfriend isn't a bombshell. I tend to see that as symptomatic of a lack in confidence (in Griffin)...but I'm no psychiatrist.

yes I bought a bottle of J Walker Gold earlier and sipped it liberally. But seriously, if a dude doesn't have an attractive girlfriend/wife I tend to think he lacks confidence. I say this from experience on both sides of the coin. If a rich, famous, star athlete doesn't have a bombshell girlfriend there's something amiss IMO.

Hopefully Griffin is single or dating Miss America by regular season lol...

Studies have shown people tend to pair with those who are similar in attractiveness to themselves. However, environmental factors such as wealth or other flashy things can make a man be perceived as more attractive by the opposite sex. But since I'm just reguritating info, I think the first 45 minutes of this documentary should do better at explaining than I can.

Confidence plays a small role compared to the automatic processes of the body.

On a side note,

I'm not sure if someone tweeted to Oldenburg or if he put it out there but the tweet said "David Stern to veto Redskins/Rams trade, keep following story developing."

Not sure if they were just being stupid or if there is something to it and not sure if the trade can be stopped. Does the League have to agree with the trade or can teams trade without League approval?

I think Jason Whitlock was the first one to tweet this and it was more a pun at Stern who vetoed the Chris Paul to the Lakers trade.

Re: Redskins agree to trade for No.2 overall pick in 2012 Draft

This trade is a bad one for the Redskins. They have once again given up too much compensation for a player and have undervalued the draft. I have a difficult time actually seeing this as being any different than any other trade that they have made in the last 12 years. If anyone had thrown out this trade as a hypothetical there would have been 50 pages of people saying "that is horrible, it is mortgaging the Redskins future!" Then it actually happens and people are dancing in the streets. And a picture of Griffin holding a Lombardi trophy. Really? At least the expectations are realistic and you recognize the immense value that the Redskins have given up. To put it in concrete terms, if the Giants had made this trade in 2004 for Eli Manning and you look at the players picked with the equivalent picks that the Redskins gave up, it is Phillip Rivers, Chris Snee, Shawn Merriman, and Santonio Holmes (Giants traded out of pick 25, they actually drafted Kiwanuka). Every one of those players has played in a Pro Bowl. Hey, but at least the Redskins are only one player away from a championship! Plus this trade will actually have compounding results because it will compel the Redskins to go and overpay for marginal players in free agency (I'm thinking Colston and VJax, but just throw in their equivalents, guys who will be overpaid based upon their numbers in very favorable offensive systems with very good QBs), both this year and in coming years. The only one (admittedly I did not read EVERY post) willing to actually say that the Redskins horribly overpaid is GTripp. I think Redskins fans might just get what they deserve.

Negative Nelly. I have wanted RG3 since September but I think the price is too high. With that said RG3 is not a pro ready qb and perhaps that with the new rookie wage scale this trade makes sense. While we turn him into a pro qb, we surround him with some mid level talent and by the time he is an all-pro we will be able to draft good toys for him.

We need to a build a team. An athletic qb with accuracy, a run game, and a turnover based D sounds like it a good foundations in today's league. Only time will tell if we gave up too much.

This is a great trade. Although I'm still not totally convinced that Irsay takes Luck. Either way we have a franchise QB. I know a 1st for 1st, 2nd, 1st, 1st seems like a lot. But it's really not if we consistently play .500 ball. Sure we need other areas. All teams do. Even the Pats or Packers. I'm excited to see Luck or more probably RG3 in Burgundy and Gold! Go Redskins! Thanks for making my offseason always exciting!!!

Re: Redskins agree to trade for No.2 overall pick in 2012 Draft

I read many of the post on the RGIII trade for our 1st-2012,1st-2013,1st-2014, and 2nd-2012. Look the 2012 1st rd pick we moved up 4 spots and the Rams moved down 4 spots, so we gave them our 2012-2nd. I would have rather gave them a lower pick say our 4th or 3rd 2012 pick. So really we gave up (2) 1st rd picks (2013-2014) and 2012 2nd rd pick. Is it to much? Maybe but we have never had a franchise QB that we drafted. Ramsey and Campbell are the last 2 QB's we have taken in the 1st round. I would rather have RGIII 6-2, 220 lb, 4.41 speed who has a rocket of a arm and is very smart. He is not a knucklehead who will get into off the field incidents or fail a drug test. He is the new breed of QB that you need to keep defensive Cordinators up all night. Im riding with RGIII and Redskins Nation to keep this thing fixed. Many of you were not even around when we were winning Super Bowls. So what if we lose a few bandwagon fans, we don't need you cause your dead weight. HTTR

everyone (except warriorzpath) was saying peyton, rg3, or bust... well peyton said no, so guess what? we got the other guy. it's really that simple. and yeah, the price sucks, but if he wins superbowls, no ones going to say anything about it besides how stupid the rams were to pass on him... and if he sucks, everyone's fired and it's the same old crappy season that we're all used to anyways.
