**Please read** Thread hijacking
Hey everyone, threads being overrun and hijacked with off-topic stuff seems to becoming a bigger problem lately.
I'm going to ask that we please stay on topic as much as possible. We have the Parking Lot for all off-topic discussions, but here in the Locker Room let's stay focused and talk Redskins & football. Please stay on topic as much as possible. Thanks -TheWarpath.net Staff- |
Re: **Please read** Thread hijacking
Just want to say that I appreciate the staff's efforts to keep these boards clean like they've always been. I think it would be a sad day to see the Warpath end up with hijacked threads all over the place like over at ES, and it's nice to see efforts continuing to keep this place top notch.
|
Re: **Please read** Thread hijacking
Yeah we have been getting quite off topic lately. Seems to have gotten somewhat stale in the Skins discussion around here lately. We need to get into some good discussions. When we lose we have lots to talks about. I think a lot of us don't like posting a lot about how great we are. And since we are playing somewhat well lately it cuts down on the Skins stuff.
|
Re: **Please read** Thread hijacking
for some reason the off-topic thread's menu has been off and on of late.
|
Re: **Please read** Thread hijacking
Wow -- does that mean Malcolm and Tafkas won't be posting for a while? ;)
|
Re: **Please read** Thread hijacking
I agree with matty and FRPLG. thank you.
|
Re: **Please read** Thread hijacking
:(. I typically don't start it. I just finish it. :)

Are you freaking serious? It is a goddamn forum, and is kinda the part of it. Geez, what happened someone's feelings got hurt? Boo hoo, we are adults here, so what if someone hijacks a thread, grow the F up, it is a freaking thread, not the end of the world. I for one think this is just ridiculous. |

Yup, that's what happens when it gets stale. It was like that right before preseason. I'm gonna' try and keep it out of the locker room though. |
Re: **Please read** Thread hijacking
I'm happy talking football all day long. If you guys want to chat about somethint other than football, we can always IM outside of the Warpath. But I do think this was all taken a bit too seriously over something that was totally harmless.

What was the reason this thread was posted Matty? Is there a particular incident that upset someone recently that brought this issue up, was it just general complaints, or what it something you noticed? Just wondering. |

I think you're overreacting. Matty's not saying you can't have your fun and hijack a thread if that's how you get your jollies. Just go do it in the parking lot. It's really not that hard. You want to go back and forth with people about off-topic stuff, no problem, do it in the off-topic forum. Not in the locker room. |

I can't speak for Matty, but my sense is nobody is mad that locker room threads got hijacked. I suspect Matty is just reminding us all to keep these boards more organized. Talk Redskins in the Locker Room, and talk other stuff in the Parking Lot. No big deal. Nobody's in trouble and nobody is getting SBF'd. |

If someone posts a thread saying something like "Joe Gibbs says he'll retire at the end of the season" I doubt it's going to get hijacked right away because that is something worthy of being talked about. BUT, when there is yet another thread about LaVar or something like that and it goes on for 10 pages, half of which say crap like "lavar is out of shape and overrated," I see no problem having fun with it. |
Re: **Please read** Thread hijacking
We are talking about a few sentances... or one day of joking around, and this is what the outcome of it is? I think someone is bitter and jealous and doesn't want any of us to have fun because he doesn't have any fun. Misery loves company. Sorry we were enjoying ourselves... I guess we won't anymore.

Again, nothing wrong with enjoying yourselves and having fun. Just go exchange one-liners in the parking lot. I don't think that's an unreasonable request at all. I mean how hard is it to switch over to the other forum? That way, those of us who want to read about 'Skins stuff in the locker room don't have to sift through a bunch of stuff that has nothing to do with the 'Skins. |

You probably mean the parking lot? But you have a point CPayne, after all, the codes of conduct are all laid out in Matty's forum guidelines. |

When did I ever insinuate that your gender has anything to do with anything? When I said exchange one-liners, that meant the one-line jokes that you guys like to fire back and forth at one another. That's all. Jeez. And I wasn't really addressing you. Seeing AMD, gigity, TMC and others shooting one-liners back and forth is a common sight around here. And usually it's funny and light hearted and I like to read it. But when I want to read about Redskins stuff, I want to read about Redskins stuff. And when I want to read their witty banter, I want to read their witty banter. It's best to just keep it organized. |

No specific incident, just my general observation of how threads have been playing out lately. Seems like too many are falling apart and getting ridiculously off-topic. I know we're all guilty of it on occassion, I just want to curtail things a bit and get threads back on track when possible. |

What's an OP? Anyway, as for hess and hoo let me address your concerns. Hess, don't take offense to this but you ain't that important. This decision has nothing to do with you. Hoo, we're not trying to supress fun in any way. Look, this is not the first time we've addressed this issue. And, like Daseal oh so subtly implied, I'm just as guilty as anyone else. We're just trying to maintain some consistency, try to keep things on track as much as possible. We know hijacking is inevitable from time to time but when it starts to get way off tangent for dozens of pages a thread it causes some frustration among our valued members. |

Sometimes those threads do reach 10 pages of the same stuff saying Lavar is overrated. And then sometimes, at the end of the thread, someone will come along and say something meaningful. And I like to check on those threads to see if a discussion of some value got started. Sometimes that guy is me, because I don't get to keep up with the threads in real time. So I'll see a thread that seems dead, and I'll post something that hasn't been said before. But if that thread has 10 pages of hijacked nonsense, it makes it so much harder for me to add my two cents. Then I have to go create a new thread to convey my point. And then we've got two threads on the same topic. It creates a mess. I totally want you to be free and have your fun talking about whatever you want. Matty and the mods have gone to great lengths creating and maintaining this site, providing places for us to talk about anything we want - whether it's Madden, TV shows, DC sport teams, etcetera. You have a home for all your funny jokes and one-line exchanges with people - the parking lot. Keeping things cleaner and keeping the locker room focused on Redskins discussion is in the best interests of growing the site and keeping it the quality place it has already grown into. |
Re: **Please read** Thread hijacking
For the most part I've started skipping threads because of hijacking. From time to time I find it funny, but it is starting to work its way into every thread.

Re: **Please read** Thread hijacking
People are really overreacting here and I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough with my initial post.
Nobody is in trouble and nobody is being singled out. I'm not trying to piss on anyone's fun parade, that's not what I'm about and if you really think that you haven't been around here long enough to know better. All I'm saying is let's keep things on topic. If a thread is 20 pages long and strays off-topic I can understand that. But I've seen too many threads lately that are barely a page long before they get hijacked. This was just meant as a simple reminder to keep threads on topic and to post in the appropriate forums. Thank you and good day. |

Re: **Please read** Thread hijacking
I totally agree with this, Matty. No offense to anyone, but the locker room part of the board should be for football. If a thread gets stale, let it die! If you want to banter about hot dogs, burritos, etc--which I am ALL for!--do it in the parking lot area of the board.
I often check all the new posts when I come on line, and having to wade through all the nonfootball stuff on what start out as football threads is annoying. It gums up the site. And it keeps alive threads that should die, filling the board with useless stuff. There are PLENTY of opportunites to joke and have fun on this site. Just keep it out of the football stuff, unless the jokes relate directly to what's in the thread. (This is kinda like the "no celebrations" rule, isn't it? ;)) |
Re: **Please read** Thread hijacking
This is BS.
OK you seem to think I have it out for you, for some reason I can't possibly fathom. I don't know why you think I'm aiming any of this discussion at you, I've been on this site for 18 months and I've barely seen you around here until the last month or so, and to my knowledge I've never had a discussion with you on here. So I'm not sure where you are getting the idea that I care about your gender, or anything. I didn't even know you were a woman until you told me today. Nor do I care if you're man, woman, or child. Anyway, I'm prepared to let it drop, because at this point I think I'd rather be in an intense debate with Huddle. |
Re: **Please read** Thread hijacking
GOOD, glad to hear it has NOTHING to do with me. I'll remember that the next time someone gives me shi+ about replying to a funny comment because they don't want to or care to read it......

Get we hijack this thread and get back to football then? |
Re: **Please read** Thread hijacking
Simma down now ya'll. This is getting crazy.
Just everyone tighten up on the hijacking a little. Those taking it personally, don't. Those not taking it personally, Matty's talking about you. Just kidding. Can't we all just agree to stay a little more on topic in the locker room? |
Re: **Please read** Thread hijacking
hess, i think you're taking this a bit too personally. there's lots of hijacking, plenty of which has been going on since long before you starting posting regularly (search for scat, thanks TMC! ;) ), but you're acting like everyone's ganging up on you specificly, which they're not. And i believe you being a woman isn't nearly as important to most people here as compared to what you post, even though you keep referencing it as the cause of all problems for some reason.
