Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
I love the kid.. i see tons of upside to him! What really is our time table? Lets face it this year hell get some experience, BUT is he going to be ready to roll FULLTIME next season? The job is his for the earning! Just cuirous is what you all think?
|
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
won't have an answer till this time next year.
|
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
it's kinda hard for us to tell whether or not he's ready after 3 games. Wait until the end of the season, we'll have a clearer picture of whether or not he's ready. I don't see anything wrong with him right out of the bat, so if I had to guess i'd say he is definitely our qb of the future.
|
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
i think by the end of the season we should know alot more about campbell, and if he is going to make it in this league. thats why i hope the skins keep adding more and more if the offense every game
|
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
I think the game experience is crucial but the best test is the offseason. He will go into next season as the starter. The team knows this and it will be key to see the relationships he develops with the players and coaches. It will be good to see how handles the pressure of the job. I think after a few games next season we will see how things will run under Mr. Campbell.
|
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
There's a developmental process that must take place before any predictions can be determined. I don't expect him to look like a seasoned QB even starting next season, but I do hope to see signs of progress. I'm getting ready to go see him play right now.
|
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
I think a deciding factor for any young QB is how well he can read defenses and how fast he can break the habit of not staring down the receiver he wants to throw to. I think those two aspects are key and if Campbell can pick up on those things rather quickly, then he'll be ready to go.
|
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
the way the snyder era has progressed I would not be surprised one bit if campbell was not the starter next yr,it wouldnt surprise me if brunell was here next yr,gibbs says campbell will be the starter, brunell will be backup, but first game, campbell gets sacked hard, brunell goes in,campbell doesnt see the field again till brunell has run the team into the ground
|
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
I don't care if Ade Jimoh is playing quarterback for us, as long as we win games that is all that really matters to me. If Brunell can come back in and lead us to victory -- great. If Campbell can -- great! If Heath Shuler can come back lead us to victory -- great! I don't care, it's the team I want see winning no matter who's behind center.

Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
Gibbs recently gave JC his endorsement as being the QB they are going to build around.
|
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
Hopefully we are looking at the Redskins QB for the next 10 years. He's shown the most promise, poise and talent at the position than any young Redskins QB in my time as a fan. Ideal case would be a 3-1 finish with a positive QB-INT ratio. Going into next year he needs to become a playmaker rather than the caretaker we had for most of the season in Brunell. If he becomes a playoff QB next season it will be a major accomplishment.
|
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
i think campbell will get this season and all of next season. if he doesnt prove himself by then, the skins will bring in a vet
|
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
He is going to need a full off season and a full season next year. Judge him after the end of next year.

Based on history if I was JC I'd be worried that Gibbs is endorsing him, just ask Ramsey. As much as I hate to say it, its hard to believe anything Gibbs says anymore. I dont think JC needs a timetable, he just needs to keep getting better each week and if he does that we will all be very happy. |
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
Gibbs didn't give up multiple picks in a draft to take Ramsey, and I really doubt Gibbs ever told Ramsey he was committed to building the team around him.
|
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
Matty is right. If you get a chance to read the article in the WP today you really get the feeling that Campbell is here to stay with Gibbs's full support behind him.
|
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
Well after this first 1/2 today his time table just got alot longer. He REALLY looked like a rookie.
|
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
i expected the bumps this year. it was only hs 4th start today.
he is basiclly a rookie. |
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
He did have a bad first half, but I like the way he bounced back and played well in the second half. Give some props to the O-line, too. Protection was pretty decent today.

If memory serves Gibbs stated many times "Patrick is our guy" even though he wasnt. I'm not comparing PR to JC I'm just saying you gotta take what Gibbs says with a big grain of salt. |
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
I'd say his timetable is by the end of next year. I think we gave Patrick 3 years, Rivers is great after 3, Lil Manning is good after 3, Smith is pretty good after 2, Palmer was great after 3, Rothlessberger was good after 1, Leinart/Young look at least decent after 1, and Cutler looks IMO better than Campbell after 1.

They are completely different situations and circumstances. |

History shows GIbbs came in his first offseason after Spurrier left, watched the tapes of the prior season for player evaluation purposes and the first move he made was get Brunnell. How is that for endorsing Ramsey? So what message did that sent to Ramsey at that time? 'I do not want Ramsey as my starting QB, he is not ready', which ended up being the correct call. Ramsey is now the third string QB with Jets behind a rookie. |
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
How can anybody in their right mind be arguing about Patrick Ramsey now? Oh, wait, I answered my own question.

LOL I wish I could say this was impossible but I can't. |
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
Campbell's time table - start playing like Brees, or at least like Romo, by middle of next year, or get used to being a career back up like Ramsey.
|
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
Brees is off the charts right now, if you really expect JC to be anywhere near that level next year you seriously should have your head checked.
I really liked how JC rebounded in the 2nd half today. He's settling in, just have to stay patient. |

Uhh, I'd prefer if he didn't play like Romo, thanks. Have you checked the guy's stats lately? I think the bloom is off that rose. This guy has beaten Houston, Arizona, Tampa, Carolina, Indy, and stole one against the Giants in a dreadful performance. Beaten one team with a winning record, the Colts, and we all know how awesome their defense is. So, yeah, if we want JC to be more like Romo by the middle of next year, I think we need to have our heads examined. |

I'm not comparing situations, I'm talking about what Gibbs says and what he does. Often they are very different things. As for Gibbs endorsing PR, did he or did he not say "Patrick is our guy"? |
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
Just my opinion.
When you are named the starting QB you don't get the luxury of a time table, it is perform now or the team will falter. Your time table was the 18 months of work you did to be named the starting QB. I hope Jason Campbell becomes the star of the NFL, but right now he reminds me of another QB that was full of promise - Heath Shuler. |

He was their guy at that time, however briefly that turned out to be. Now he's committed to building around Campbell, that sounds like a much stronger endorsement than he's our guy. |

I do think Gibbs is committed to JC unless something better comes along.
Not sure what you mean exactly, I'm well aware that PR wasn't Gibbs guy, he wasn't from the start and that's why we shouldn't be surprised that he went back to Brunell. But he did give him a shot to take the job and he only proved why Gibbs didn't trust him. If Ramsey was good enough to hold the job he would have, problem is he wasn't good enough. I think Gibbs is committed to JC for the long run, unless he's a disaster which I think is pretty unlikely. |
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
Don't forget it was this front office (though admittedly, not Joe Gibbs) who brought in Jeff George when we thought all was well with Brad Johnson after the '99 season.
I won't be the least bit surprised if Snyderatto starts whispering in Joe Gibbs ear for a quality, veteran quarterback. And his name isn't Todd Collins. |

Dont say anything or say something about competition at QB but dont say a guy is your guy when he's not. That's why I keep saying that we cant really believe anything Gibbs says. Which is my point. Maybe something better wont come along but if it does (especially based on this organizatiuons recent history) then JC is done. |
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
'99 is ages ago and pretty irrelevant to today's situation.
I think we do need to bring in a vet for the #2 spot, unless Brunell wants to hang on, but I don't think we would bring in a veteran that would be any sort of strong threat to Campbell. |
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
I wouldn't be suprised if we brought in a vet qb in the offseason. I think JC has shown some real good things in his few games in there. Of course he's looked like a rook sometimes too but to be expected.
But i've got to say that our o-line has been pretty impressive lately and (I can't believe i'm going to say it) w/ a vet qb in there we may have been inthe playoff race this year. Don't get me wrong though I'm glad JC is in there learning. I'd rather answer this thread after 3 more games. |
Re: Jason Campbell..What's his time table?
'99 is ages ago and pretty irrelevant to today's situation.
It's not irrelevant when the same people are here in the very same capacity. The past is the best indication of future performance. |

So based on that one statement you don't trust Gibbs? I guess it depends on what context you want to take that statement in. You're taking it as since Ramsey wasn't his guy from the start he should have never said anything to the contrary. I'm taking it as he might not have been his guy from the start, but given the circumstances he gave him a shot and he didn't come through. Regardless, that's over. Campbell is the guy he gave up multiple picks to trade up to draft, and his praise of Campbell is something we never heard him give Ramsey. His eyes light up when he talks about Campbell, you can tell he's genuinely excited about his future and the way he's handling things even now. |
It's not irrelevant when the same people are here in the very same capacity. The past is the best indication of future performance.
It's irrelevant based on the fact that Gibbs is now running the show and from all indications Snyder has taken a backseat. I'd even say that Snyder has learned a thing or two from his past mistakes and probably wouldn't have gone about things the same way if he could do it all over again. |
