This time of year sucks
It just is soo boring not being able to watch football. It seems like to me at least june and july really are boring and that is when I really start craving football. HURRY UP FOOTBALL SEASON!!!
|
yeah, it sucks, there isnt even much news about it.
|
Well, I am enjoying a great year of baseball, but if its not for you then I can see why football seems so far away. Pre-season is just around the corner. I am usually excited to see any football game on at first, but I get bored with pre-season quickly.
|
I'm with you redrock. I'm enjoying the baseball season and this week is the Great Outdoor Games!!! Love those!
|
yes, it is quite boring if u hate baseball as i do, just too boring to watch
|
I think baseball is only fun to watch if you played it for a while. You have to play it to know how hard it is to hit a well pitched ball.On the other hand, I can understand if some people think its boring.
I cant wait to see someone in a redskins uni out on the field.I would even settle for watching the fourth quarter of a pre season game right now. |
I'll watch some baseball or atleast baseball tonight for the highlights. I'll definitely try to watch most of the game if it involves the padres, but thats about it.

You might have a point. I took my sister-in-law to her first baseball game ever at Camden Yards yesterday. She liked the stadium, and at least pretended to be interested as I explained the intricacies of the game to her. But I imagine for her most of it was just people standing around. Meanwhile, I'm watching the pitcher, seeing where the infield is positioned, noticing batter's tendencies, checking out the different ptiches. All the things I did while playing in high school. |
I like watching Lance in France, but of course nothing compares to football season. News is slow now too, I just thank God I have the NFL network and can watch NFL replay a few times a week. Tides me over AND they are really great games from the last few seasons.

Yeah I used to spend a lot of time as a kid in La Jolla so I'm pretty excited by the success of the Padres this year. |

I wish I could go to a game at the new stadium but Jack Murphy stadium was also pretty nice(really good tailgating.) I hope they can keep the success up cuz I'd like them to contend so they'll be somewhat active in the free agent and trade markets. Even though he didn't hit many hrs, Tony Gwynn is probably my favorite baseball player of all time cuz he was also a really nice guy who turned down more lucrative offers to stay in with the Padres for his entire career. It's too bad he had so many knee problems the last couple years of his career and the strike in 94' messed up his very real chance at hitting .400. |
Baseball is holding me over, espcially since my team ( St. Louis ) is whoopin ass right now. On the football front though, there is absolutley nothing. Only a few weeks to go my friend.
|
Playing Madden is a nice way to help get that football fix in the offseason.
|
i just wish madden scores weren't always 103 - 58 or some such insanity...
|
i guess its the same way with soccer, i love to watch and play soccer. most ppl dont understand what kind of shape you have to be in to be running for 90+ mins and strike a ball so hard and well. just how it is in america tho.

That's why we're all posting to and reading this board - we need our football fix! You know what works every time? Take your son or daughter (or neice/nephew/neighbor's kid) out in the backyard and teach him/her one play a day - practice it every day, adding a new one each day. Before you know, the season has begun and your kid knows your decades-old high school playbook by heart! |

what level do you play on? |
I'm pretty sick of this also.....Baseball doesn't get good until Sept/Oct. Hey but if you think about it, it's only 3 weeks away.
As far as Madden I'm in my 21st year as owner of my franchise. Patrick Ramsey is my head coach, and Jesse Armstead is my D-Coordinator. Kinda sad, but it keeps me entertained. |

I'd be playing Madden 2 or atleast something on my Ps2 if it hadn't broke down a little over a month ago :cussing: |

Paders?? How come you like the Paders?? Just woundering. I live in SoCal and only know about 4 Paders fans. |

:laughing- How many hrs have you invested in that game now?? I love that game to but 21 season! Your a die hard! :thumb: :httr: |
I'm in season 8 of my PS2 franchise, and I got through about the same on the gamecube. Herm Edwards was my HC but he retired after 3 straight rings, guess he got bored. Brett Favre is my HC and Brad Johnson is my OC.

I've liked the Padres since I lived in San Diego 91-94. They were the first proffesional team I'd seen play live and ever since then I've followed the team and hated every other team in the NL West except when the D-Backs beat the Yankees, lol. I like the smaller market teams and I couldn't help but root for a guy a lot like Darrel Green in Tony Gwynn. Plus its pretty fun to hear Hell's Bells come on whenever Hoffman comes in to pitch. |
Whenever I get to season 8 or so in Franchise I start from scratch. anybody else ever do a fantasy draft in the game? I've done it a few times to keep it from getting boring.
|
yeah I've done a fantasy draft a few times, it's a lot of fun to build your own team.
|
i've done up to 13 seasons, but not that many... I play on PC and download Struttdaddy's rosters from football-gaming.com to play some exhibition with our current team, he updates them ever week or so and so they are current through the rookie draft, trades and free agency. Makes me feel good to be able to kinda 'preview' my skins :-)
|
matty, i play with 15minute quarters... difficulty doesn't make a huge difference, i'm talking about setting AI vs AI matches...
i also made a team of straight 100s and a team of straight 1s... those scores ending up in the 1000 to 0 to 2500 to 0 range ;) |
I'm still watching our games from last year! When I'm not playing Madden, that is.

i wish i had taped last season, finding redskins games on filesharing services is a pain...
|
Here's a suggestion for a diversion during this time of year. Go to the racetrack - or one of the off-track emporiums - and dabble in a bit of horseracing.
Matty, I'm still trying to find time to get up to Saratoga for the meet there in August but unless a miracle happens, I'm not going to make it. If I do, we have to have a beer ... or two ... or three ... For our SoCal brethern, find your way to DelMar in August. |
Sportscurmudgeon...what about me? I live ten minutes from Matty.
|
I'm all for it guys, just say the word!
|
This time of year especially sucks if you're waiting for football and you hate baseball at the same time.
I check into ESPN Radio just to see what the topics are -- and if it's not the All-Star Game, then it's Shaq/Kobe/ and the Lakers. I'm really getting sick of it all. For God sakes bring on the scrimmages and training camp! |
I've been temporarily satisfying my football fix by listening to CFL and Arena 2 (as well as something called the Intense Football League) games online:

[/QUOTE] just be thankful you don't live in LA... it's even worse! these laker fans have got to be the biggest homers in the land... many of them are all blaming shaq for what happened and aren't even appreciative of his role in bringing them three rings. the only thing good about kobe staying with the lakers is that i don't have to deal with clipper bandwagon fans. it's like a damn soap opera!!! |
Why dont ESPN show Canadian League Football anymore? I know they have not showed them in years but I would think it would do good. CFL would have to do better than most of the programs they show this time of year. They make such a big deal about poker. Some people may like it and it is ok for a little bit but come on. It may be about a notch more exciting than golf.
|
i can watch poker f or about 10 minutes a day... then i'm done with it.

one of the best programs for inducing a nice nap  |
thanks for the link smoot, listening to some random arkansas AF2 game, and while it'd probably be pretty boring to watch, listening to touchdowns every 2 minutes is actually pretty worthwhile.
twisters got 3 touchdowns on 3 plays... 19-14, and its only 8:50 into the game lol. |
