Kris Jenkins?

It looks as if the Panthers are shopping Kris Jenkins. I say the Redskins should look into this.

What about a swap of first rounders, (Carolina really wants Landry), and a 5th rounder?

The Skins get Jenkins, the 14th pick, and a 5th rounder.

Carolina gets the 6th pick.

Re: Kris Jenkins?

Since it involves the D-line, I'm sure the front office has no interest.

They'd rather pick up more linebackers and defensive backs.

When healthy Jenkins is a top DT. If his injury issues are behind him he's definitely worth a look.

Are you linking us to a post in a discussion thread, or is this coming from a credible source that the Panthers are looking to move up? Seems like just a discussion thread, which is exactly how bad rumors get started. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, though.

Isn't Jenkins, the 14th, and a 5th rounder way too much for the 6th pick? I'm not an expert on that draft value chart, but that seems like an awful lot.

This is probably the article this thread was referring to:
Charlotte Observer | 04/07/2007 | Panthers willing to trade Jenkins

I agree Schneed, I doubt CAR would go for that trade.

That is the article. I'm not sure they would throw in a fifth, but if they don't we are giving a second round eqivalent in the trade. 6 spot is 1600, 14 spot is 1100, the 40th pick is 500, that seems like an awful lot to give up, we definitly need another pick thrown in.

Re: Kris Jenkins?

Unfortunately, Jenkins has hated the skins ever since he played for the terps. He's also has had weight, depression and drinking issues over his 2 injury plagued seasons in '04 and '05.

Re: Kris Jenkins?

I know what u are referring to when he said he didn't want to play for the skins coming out of college, but seriously things change. Players mature up a lot and if the price is right, i don't think he or the panthers would pass up on a trade just b/c he doesn't like the skins.

johnjaywilliams 04-09-2007 10:54 AM

Re: Kris Jenkins?

if they are willing to make that trade we should go for it. Jenkins is a monster when healthy. So we can fix that d-line issue we have and address another hole with the draft picks.

Re: Kris Jenkins?

I think if we are going to trade for this guy we should give them a 5th rounder or next years 3rd.

You know what screw this guy. He has stated he hates the Redskins and their FANS!!!

Re: Kris Jenkins?

Jenkins was a beast & might be again for a couple years, but something about him playing here doesn't gell. I would rather not see any free agents unless they're 2nd stringers at this point. We've addressed the secondary & LB corps in free agency, let's stick to the existing roster & the draft to work on the d line.

Jenkins will play will the money is the greenest. we don't need his attitude on the skins. he is in decline, anyway

We can get Okoye cheaper.

Re: Kris Jenkins?

I don't think Jenkins is in decline. He has had two significant injuries (one shoulder, one ACL) but he is only 27 years old and b/c of injury has only actually played 4 seasons out of his 6 seasons in the league. That's good and bad. There is the possibility of him truly being injury prone, but that is also 32 less games of physical punishment on the rest of his body.

We'd have to give him an extensive physical/workout, but he started all 16 games last year (he's started all 16 games in each of his 4 healthy seasons), and at 6-4, 335, he is a massive run-stuffer. I am very weary of trading draft picks for free agents, but I'll call this intriguing if we get the 14th overall and the 5th.

But if Jenkins gives us a viable upgrade, and I have no doubt that he would give us more than Joe Salave'a, then we could draft a defensive end, and our front four gets more improvement than we would have otherwise seen.

We have a squad full of adequate veterans already. What we need to get is some potentially dominant youth.

Jenkins strikes me as overrated because his production has slipped in the years that he should have been hitting his prime. Those are the worst possible years to get injuries and can ruin an otherwise solid career. Jenkins isn't ever going to fufill the standard he set for himself in the first four years of his career and while that's hardly his fault at all, it does make him a classic case of an overrated DT.

These are not years he can have back, and due to all the practice time he lost, its not a jump he's ever going to make.

What you have in Kris Jenkins now if he's totally healthy is an above league average player who could have been so much more. Fortunately for him, some team is going to pay him like what he could have been, and not like what he's going to be.

That team won't be the Redskins.

Or, he could have another year like Cornelius Griffin did in '04. After 4 seasons in the league, people in NY said he was done there too. We don't know.

For the record, I'm on the fence with this. I just want improvement with the front four. If he's not on his last legs, and at 27 one would think he's got a fair amount of time left, it would allow us to kill two birds with one stone by drafting a defensive end, which, in my mind is the second most important need this team has to fill.

I agree about the infusion of youth, but the coaches don't seem willing to allow youth on the football field except in very rare cases. It does seem like 'more of the same' by bringing in another team's rejects, but he can't be worse than the DTs we have now.

If the front office made this move and only had to drop to #14, I could live with that.

Re: Kris Jenkins?

Here is Jenkins salaries for 07-09:
Jenkins, 27, has three years left on a contract that pays him $3.2 million in '07, $3 million in '08 and $3.7 million in '09.
This is reasonable if he is healthy but that is a big if. But when you compare it to what are other big time DL free agents make it is not too bad - especially since he got the huge signing bonus of $9+ million from the Panthers that would not effect the Skins cap. The only problem is every player who gets traded to us wants a new contract but maybe the injuries have reduced his leverage.

If the deal is in fact an extra pick and Jenkins for swapping first round positions, that would be intriguing. But I agree that Carolina is unlikely to offer that

Well he is under contract through 2009, and his salaries each over the next three seasons are not ridiculous at all for a 27 year old coming off a season where he started 16 games and went to the pro-bowl. I said this move could be intriguing. He may not be the best D-tackle in the league, but when healthy he's right up there.

The question I have is who would Carolina covet at #6? They are weak at safety (an aging Mike Minter and then maybe Nate Salley?), and if they wanted Landry, he'd be there. I could see it happening, but I don't think they'd give us any additional picks other than the 14th.

He doesnt wanna be here; I dont want him here
He hates the fans; I dont like him
Carolina wants more picks; I dont want us to give up anymore.
If he comes here it will be for the money; I am sick of players comming here just so they can get paid!

Jenkins is a NO-GO in my book.

What I'm trying to say is if he is TRADED here he is already under a contract that is not too high priced through 2009. Unless he demands and extension, he can be gotten without him sucking us dry. I don't care what he said in college 6 years ago about the Skins. It's worthless to worry about that crap. How many guys on our roster do you think cared about the Washington Redskins before they signed their contract? This is a business.

Yes it is a business, but the success of any business is determined its greatest asset. The greatest asset in any business is people. Shitty people= shitty business. I will take one player whos heart is into the team over 10 overpriced studs. The one other thing that you are forgetting is that when you are traded you have no decision where you go, and if you end up somewhere you dont like, are you really going to perform at your best?
