Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
I thought about posting this last week, but it looked like some last minute negotiations might keep him.
Alas, 'twas not meant to be ESPN - Patrick leaving ESPN after 18 years on the air - Gen |
Re: Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
oh well
more room for sage steel!!! |

Re: Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
hey thats a good thing for you SS. More people out higher you move up.
|
Re: Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
Who is Sage Steel? Sounds like a wrestler who likes to cook.
|
Re: Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
On-air SmootSmack! Finally, a commentator who is properly biased towards the world's greatest football team, the Washington Redskins.
Where do we send the email petition? Who should we call? Can we just come down to your work and talk to your boss, Smoot? I'm sure they won't mind...:biggthump |
Re: Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
Who cares....Dan who? Never miss a beat without him.
|
Re: Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
At least he wasn't caught with pills, weed, nose candy, and a pea shooter on his way to a teeny bopper party.
|
Re: Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
Who gives a @^&*? The sports are why we watch or listen. These guys all think they are hot s^&* but they are very replaceable.

Re: Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
Damn that sucks. I really enjoy his show.
SS, is he going to host the price is right? I heard that he had been contacted for that. |

What makes you say that she sucks? She went from Comcast Sportsnet to ESPN......I'm sure ESPN didn't hire her because she sucks. I actually like her because she would always grill Brian Billick and he'd get pissed. Billick is biggest prick. |

SS, is he going to host the price is right? I heard that he had been contacted for that.
Well I would tell you but I'd hate to bore the Carnage's and Skinsfan_nn's of the world. From now let's all just wait for their approval on what to discuss first. |

Seriously... SportsCenter would not have the viewership without the anchors. If you just showed 45 minutes of the day's highlights, it wouldn't work. DP wasn't a pioneer in sports journalism, but him and Olbermann were the two that really took sports writing to another level. |

If he took it to another level , wouldn't that make him a pioneer? The essence of good writing is avoiding cliche. Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann never passed that simple test. Watch Olbermann on MSNBC. He is full of stock phrases and worn out analogies. They are both boring as hell. If I weren't sure that his absence from T.V. would be short-lived, I would say good-riddance. |

Not really, because writing is still writing... the two just made it better, imo. The "schtick" used by SportsCenter anchors has evolved with time. And we'll just have to agree to disagree re: the quality of their writing. I think Olbermann is a pretty darn good journalist on MSNBC. |
Re: Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
I must say, there aren't too many people here at work all that upset that he's leaving (but you didn't hear that from me)

not suprising since he comes across as a bit of a douche on screen. won't be missed by myself. actually pretty much one of the only ones on sportscenter that I like anymore is Scott Van Pelt. |

Why? Is he a jerk or something? I still miss the best combo in ESPN history...Oberman and Patrick. |
Re: Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
Doesn't really pay much attention to "the little guy" from what I hear. Doesn't treat them with respect.
But again, I've never met him myself. He's rarely around supposedly anyway |

Stewart
Well played. Now, back to the topic at hand. Skinsfanthruandthru, Scott Van Pelt is pretty cool. I like Brian Kenny a lot and Jay Harris (though not as much on air). But SVP is an option to replace Patrick |

Stewart
Now name the driver that has wrecked the most drivers this year? I am surprised to hear he seems like a jerk. That's a shame. I'm going to miss him...he's been a part of my life for many years on my tv. I would miss Berman if he left too...and I hated it when Oberman left. Good luck Mr. Patrick...I wish you success. |

But yeah all three have been great for the company from a public perspective |

Wow, really? I would have never guessed that. He seems like he is very well liked and respected. That comes as a complete shock. |

I'm keeping my finger's crossed that his retirement occurs sooner rather than later as he went from funny about 5-10 years ago to just flat out annoying in a hurry. He just brings nothing of importance to nfl countdown anymore, but he's not so bad during baseball coverage. |

I disagree. His antics might wear a little thin from time to time, but he offers the most insight if you ask me. |

I think that would be tough for me too. |
Re: Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
Best news of the week. :)
I won't miss him. I'd occasionally tune into his radio show with his bed-buddy Keith Olberman and I'd always regret it and change the station. I can't stand Dan or Keith. When I listen to ESPN Radio, I expect sports talk, not the latest gossip on Keith's childish feud with Bill O'Reilly or bashing of the President. Now if we could just get rid of Stuart Scott...ESPN would be great. |
Re: Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
Who is Dan Patrick and why does he matter?
|
Re: Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
I think they should bring back the Fabulous Sports Babe. I will never stop beating that drum.
In terms of SC anchors, Kilborn is so far above all the others that they should have just scrapped the show after he left. He made Dan and Keith look like a couple of AV club members. He's the Val Kilmer character and Keith is Kent from that movie with the popcorn at the end. Real Genius? "This is Jesus, Kent." |

"It is God!" I agree, CK was the best. Actually all of them started out really good but somewhere along the lines they become actors rather than anchors. Once you hit celebrity status you seem to lose focus on what got you there. |
Re: Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
Kilborn was great on SportsCenter.
|
Re: Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
I always thought Patrick did a good job but he was the straight guy for guys like Kilborn.
