My AWESOME day at Training Camp
I hope this doesn't bore the hell out of you guys, but I'm so excited after being at camp that I had to share. First, it was a raining, humid morning..to say the least, but I got there before the gates were open and was right on the rail at the start of practice. Some of the pics below have a "haze" to them.. my lens kept fogging. First I want to say how blessed I feel that my son was able to get so many autographs.. what a great bunch of players we have. I was almost in tears, they were soooo generous. OH, and I also have shots of the new Jason Taylor below. Feel free to view at your leisure.
Randy Thomas (not Sellers) was the second one out to the field I believe, Carter was first: http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm193/hesscl/100_0680.jpg Bugel talking to some of the O line: http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm193/hesscl/100_0682.jpg Zorn and Collins coming out for practice together: http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm193/hesscl/100_0683.jpg Portis, and his yellow shoes: http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm193/hesscl/100_0691.jpg Cooley at the end of a great catch: http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm193/hesscl/100_0724.jpg Landry (my son's head in the way): http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm193/hesscl/LandrywthMarc.jpg Rogers and V Fox (Fox is in SHAPE!) http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm193/hesscl/RedskinRogersandFox-1.jpg Moss lined up (he was awesome today by the way!) http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm193/hesscl/100_0717.jpg After practice Moss signed for such a long time. I think that first pic is Randy Thomas though, no?
Oh ..shoot. yes, Randy.... I have one of Mike too.. I'm exhausted, but it was worth getting up at 5am!!! One the fans got Mike's daugher to sign her Skins game ticket for her - yes, I said his daughter singed it... kind of cute. |

Looks like you and your son lucked out to get such a good spot.
I did exactly what you guys told me to do. I went in and went down to the left rail, and stayed there. That's where all the players come to sign first. I had Moss' jersey hanging over the rail yelling his name and he came straight over to me. :) |
Re: My AWESOME day at Training Camp
Nice pictures! Thanks for sharing them.

Re: My AWESOME day at Training Camp
Good work, Hessy.
I can't believe I haven't been up there yet. How long did it take you get there? |
Re: My AWESOME day at Training Camp
Good work, Hessy.
I can't believe I haven't been up there yet. How long did it take you get there?
Well, believe it or not there wasn't any traffic. I'm not sure if that's because it's a high vacation time or what, but what I thought would take over an hour didn't. Everything just came together today. No sun, cloud cover, light rain to stay cool, no traffic and the pefect spot on the rail. I couldn't have asked for more.. Oh, and don't be surprised if you see me on Redskins.com, or Comcast Sportsnet... UGH! When Moss was singing my Tayor towel the press swarmed us and took a ton of pics. I was also standing in front of Moss the entire time the press was shooting him, video and still.. I'm wet, and sticky.. not so pretty that's for sure. But I'm the only redhead with a HUGE smile on her face!! :) |
Re: My AWESOME day at Training Camp
So awesome and thanks for sharing. JTaylor looks like a man among boys. I knew he was big but he seems really huge to me. Not like Sellers huge but you know. Anyway thanks so much for sharing I haven't been to camp since the last time they were in PA. Looks super fan friendly though.

J-Dawg
Hess is a chick ;) Hey Hess, what time did you get to camp, and how many people were already there waiting in line for the gates to open when you did? I'm trying to get to camp sometime before Monday and I plan on getting up early so I can either get one of those VIP passes for the lottery tix or I can get a prime spot next to the fence. |

I could not BELIEVE how big JT is in person. He's HUGE! ... he towers over everyone. Well, except a few of the O line. Another thing I wanted to share was how great Moss looked. He's just amazing. Fast, fast, fast, and NEVER dropped a ball, not one!!! We are so lucky to have him as a Skin. Personal moment: My son said to Moss when he was signing his hat "You are and will always be my favorite WR".. Moss looked up at him, smiled and said "Thanks Man".. :) It warmed my heart... Oh, and the two new WRs.. Mcullen and Kelly (I think) - also, HUGE, and very good hands. I loved watching them. Campbell... all I can say there ... Well, I felt like I was watching last year all over again. I kept thinking "is the coaching tell him to do that???". It was the same short pass, short pass.. then over throw the long ball. It wasn't good.. :( Landry... he is such a bad ass. He nailed some dude and I really don't think they were supposed to be tackling, but he did!! It put a smile on my face. Smoooot! Love this guy, but he sure is a little dude. My son said "Mom, I'm taller than him... and Moss" ... ha ha.. (my son is 14) Springs - looks awesome. Fast and in shape! Cooley, awesome as always... and much bigger up close than I thought he would be. Very big. Whew... I need to go to bed or I'll just keep rambling. I've been so happy and excited I keep replaying it in my mind, I'm beat! |

Then I went in, walked down the hill and parked my self at the end on the rail.. near the endzone on the left. If you look at the "Zshade" pic I posted you can see right where I was. Once you have your spot on the rail don't leave it, or kiss it goodbye. Oh, and take bug spray!!!! |

Re: My AWESOME day at Training Camp
LOL. I'll just stick to the Dancing with the Stars re-runs! All in all, looks like you had a great time. Bless you, that's what being a Redskin fan is all about. I'm glad the players take the time to meet and greet the fans. GO SKINS!!

Re: My AWESOME day at Training Camp
Anyone ever been to fan apperciation day? Is it worth going? I am sure it is crazy crowded, but is it impossible to get any autographs? Is it easier? Just wondering if it is worth the 3 hour and 30 minute drive.

I actually planned my day to be there BEFORE fan appeciation day thinking I'd get a good spot on the rail.... and take a look a my pics... it was good plan. Most days like those are so crowded you just can't get your shot. Think ahead! |
Re: My AWESOME day at Training Camp
fan day is a terrible time to go... the crowds swell and it's much harder to get a look at what's going on.

You should probably go on a day other than Fan Appreciation Day. I went back in '05 and while it wasn't completely horrible, I couldn't see anything due to crowds near 15,000 people. The autograph signing sessions isn't worth the wait either, all of the big name players' lines fill up quickly, whereas if you go to the less crowded tables you have a chance to get a lot of autographs. When I went my parents went to the lesser known players' tables while I got into Lavar's line, and I ended up standing the entire time in Lavar's line while my parents got multiple autographs, including Chris Samuels', Jon Jansen's, Shawn Springs', Marcus Washington's, amongst others. |
Re: My AWESOME day at Training Camp
Great photos looks like you two had a great time. Makes me sorry i live over 300 miles away from ashburn. I'd stay away from fan appreciation day too...the parking was horrendous but outside of that i guess it wasnt too bad.

Thanks for the good advice, this will actually be the first time I have gone to one of these, and I know its gonna be a crowd, but I think its worth it to see the new O in action during the scrimmage. I just pray Landry dosen't kill any of our new recievers! SO EXCITED! |
Re: My AWESOME day at Training Camp
The redskin site states that there would be no formal autgraph signing so I assumed there would be no tables. Last year at training camp i got some good autographs, but I really Really want Clinton Portis to sign my throwback jersey so I can hang on my wall in my redskin room. I also really want Cooley and jason Campbell to sign pictures I took of them last year and had blown up to hang up. I got Marcus Washington to sign his last year (well I had my kids do it he was more willing to sign for them) and complemented on the collage of photos...
I would make the trip if I knew I had a good oppurtunity to get Clinton Portis's autograph, plus my kids (8 and 10) are getting ready for football and I would love for them to experience the practice and meet a few players again like last year... |
Re: My AWESOME day at Training Camp
So I went to TC practice today and overall it was solid but not spectacular. Originally I planned to go during the week, but then my sister said she wanted to go too so I said ok, we'll wait until Sunday when you don't have to work and you can make it. So she invited her friend, and it turns out her friend's uncle is Bubba Tyer, and he apparantly hooked her and my sister up with a couple VIP passes.
Well I thought it wasn't a big deal cuz I heard about the VIP passes they were giving out for old lottery tickets, so we get to camp about 6:45 today and they get their actual Redskins VIP passes, and then once we get inside I go to the Virginia Lottery tent and they give me a wristband that is not a VIP pass at all, it's just so you can go to this secluded area at the far end of the field. So my sister and her friend, being girls and all, decide to go by themselves to the VIP area and hang out there. So I took up a spot by myself on the fence where all the players usually sign autographs as they are walking up from the end of practice. In hindsight I shouldn't have bothered staking my claim in the autograph area, I should've just gone to that little Virginia Lottery secluded VIP area and taken pictures. Well I stand in my spot until the time practice ends, and then it just so turns out that nobody on the team wants to do autographs except for maybe five players, who were, Jason Goode, H.B. Blades (I got his), Cory Raymer, Burl Toler (I got his too), and an unidentified white guy who I thought was either Derrick Frost or Durant Brooks, but they were signing the VIP's stuff so I never got a good look at them. The highlight of my day was seeing Matt Terl (sp?), the official blogger of the 'Skins, and I was like, hey are you Matt Terl, the official blogger for the Redskins? And he was like, yeah I am, hi!, and I was like, I read your blog, I'm one of the guys who actually likes it, and he was like, thanks man, and that was it. I left about 10:20ish, I saw Santana Moss and Marcus Washington walk by, Marcus was signing autographs but he passed by my section of the fence, and then once he left there was pretty much nobody there so I decided it was time to go. I might go again tomorrow, although I'm extremely low on cash because I spent what was left of my money buying a new ball (33 bucks? Seriously? lol) so I could get something autographed. All in all though I was pretty happy just to be back at Redskins Park and seeing the guys in action, well it's better than nothing, and I'm glad I made it out there. |

It is hit or miss with the players. You just never know if they are going to sign. That is why my day at camp was just so unbeilvable! |
