Safety Position

This is just a thought, its not rumored or anything. But the Cardinals just signed Iffy and made him first string. That means they have who, Dexter Jackson riding the bench? Im thinking we should try to get him to pair up with Taylor, that would be a much better combo. Just an idea.

Big C 08-28-2004 04:30 PM

that would be tight as shit man, but i just dont see it happening this late in the preseason. clever idea, i dont see how d jack got beat out.

Redskins_P 08-28-2004 04:31 PM

I thought Jackson was injured? I could be wrong though.

We could use some more depth at that position.

SKINSnCANES 08-28-2004 04:32 PM

I hadnt heard anything, but it would make sense that hes injured if Iffy got the start...

Redskins_P 08-28-2004 04:33 PM

maybe we can start a poll on who should be starting next Taylor at safety??? just an idea

Redskins_P 08-28-2004 06:03 PM

I voted Todd Franz, but if Lott were to get it I'd be content. As long as Bowen isn't in there...that's all that matters.

illdefined 08-28-2004 06:13 PM

voted Lott. i haven't seen Bowen make any significant plays since he's been here, i doubt any offense in the NFL respects him at all. he's had his chance, lets see what a hungrier young guy can do.

Big C 08-28-2004 06:37 PM

andre lott, ma dogg. hes gonna be a pro bowler in 2 years

wolfeskins 08-28-2004 06:50 PM

isn't bowen supposed to have a much better year becouse he has been switched to strong safety.where as last year he was free safety.

Big C 08-28-2004 07:06 PM

in preseason hes been worse than he was last year

Big C 08-28-2004 07:07 PM

and ppl voted other...who else aer you guys thinking of?

offiss 08-28-2004 07:18 PM

It's official, Matt bowen has no football instinkt's what so ever, he can't cover, he can't even get himself into position to make a hard hit after a catch, he had a play last night where he could have had a chance for an INT, instead he never even look's for the ball, run's over and push's the reciever, without a clue that the ball was up for grab's, the guy is a joke on the field, he may have physical attributes, but it ain't help'n him on the field, he has know buisness even as a backup, defiently should be cut.

wolfeskins 08-28-2004 07:23 PM

i agree with you offiss

Daseal 08-28-2004 07:46 PM

I'm going with the Anyone but bowen platform. Have Weurffel play SS, as long as it isn't Mr. Clean.

Maybe our man CrazyCanuck knows, but how is Bowen's contract setup? What kind of dead cap space would we get if we were to cut him?

MTK 08-29-2004 12:19 AM

Bowen will start by default.

I don't think Lott is physical enough, though I think he will play a larger role this year.

The problem I have with that is, Bowen may be the tougher of the 2, but he never uses it, [unless it's a cheap shot in practice] so give me the guy who can cover, let Taylor do the hitting, I know lott isn't the second coming of ronnie, but he may be the best fit we have, I would then go with Franz after Lott, Bowen can hit the road, I just don't see him figuring out how to play football, if he hasen't figured it out by now, I also wouldn't mind seeing Rufus Brown [although a cb] getting some time at saftey, he's fairly physical for a corner, and excellent tackler, food for thought any way.

Kevikazi 08-29-2004 01:46 AM

Heck...if Deon Sanders can make a come back, I would love to see Darrell Green come out of retirement to play safety for us.

SmootSmack 08-29-2004 02:12 AM

Well I don't think he's ever played strong safety but what do you guys think of bringing in Rod Woodson for a look?

Big C 08-29-2004 05:04 AM

damn hes old

SUNRA 08-29-2004 02:40 PM

I chose Lott but I'd bring Franz in intermitently. Bowen is having problems reading the offense and is slow to respond with a hard tackle like he did in practice against his own teammates.

i dont know if u were joking or not, but darrell is significantly older, and smaller than deion

Let's be realistic here, the Rams game disappointed me and should have disappointed every Redskins fan that watched it. Ramsey and Bowen, allllllllll Hype.

Ander Lott needs to hit harder but he just dont give up touchdowns like Bowen and as for Ramsey I say keep him give him more time to learn but just dont let him touch the field in the regular season. Goooooooo Hasselback
