Vasectomy Anyone
Well the time has come and I need to get this done. I have my first appointment with a Urologist on Thursday and I'm not to thrilled. I was not to worried until I read about the procedure and I had a growing pain down there thinking about the whole thing. So, who has had it done and what can I really expect?

Re: Vasectomy Anyone
Worst Thread Title Ever.
My father had this done years ago... said it was very painful. I would not do this for anything. Is there a reason your wife can't go on birth control? |
Re: Vasectomy Anyone
I had it done after our third child. They gave me drugs, snipped it, and I went home vegged, and then watched the draft the next day(heckuva way to convince my ex to let me watch it!). It was no big deal at least what I remember, but then again they gave me GOOD drugs!

Re: Vasectomy Anyone
Forgot about this one... Dude I worked with in Iceland got one done, then went rock climbing a week later. Somehow, this led to Elephantiasis of the balls. Not nearly as cool as it sounds.
|
Re: Vasectomy Anyone
Sounds like you're offering free ones, FD.
I have no advice other than don't get one in Iceland and don't go rock-climbing right after it...but I plan on getting one when we reach our agreed-upon total of 3 kids. I can just see it now though, I give her #3 and it will end up being #3 AND #4. :D |
Re: Vasectomy Anyone
I have heard you will be hurting for a couple of days after wards.
Plus I think they do it while you are awake! |
Re: Vasectomy Anyone
Yeah, local anesthesia.
Honestly, it's easier and less painful than your wife getting "snipped" and you can be sure that if you're really finished making babies, you won't have an "I forgot to take my pill" moment. Much safer. Also, some women have bad reactions to and can't take BC. My wife did not do well on it. Small price to pay to keep your retirement funds intact. :D |
Re: Vasectomy Anyone
I'm going to go with NO on this one !
|
Re: Vasectomy Anyone
Couple guys I used to work with had it done, said it's not a big deal. You'll be sore for 2-3 days, other than that, no horror stories.
|
Re: Vasectomy Anyone
I plan on doing it when the time is right. We're done having children, but at age 31 I don't want to yet do anything this intense. Never know, my wife and kids could get killed by bigfoot. I might want to remarry and build a few more babies.
But when the time's right I'll probably go for it. My wife's no good on birth control, the hormones really mess with her. We stick with good old fashioned rubbers. I've heard you get sore but nothing you can't handle. Honestly, the fear is overblown because dudes are protective of their nards. Justified fear, but overblown nonetheless. You'll be fine. |

It's also allot less complicated for a man to go under. |
Re: Vasectomy Anyone
I have been...........considering it. Have not gotten past that stage....

It's ALOT better for the guy to do it then the woman. You also can get it reversed if Bigfoot does manage to find your family. Seriously, I did it on the Friday, and was at work Monday. Since I used it as a watch the draft pass, I drank beer all weekend and don't really remember much else to the procedure. I am sure it must have been sore, but I didn't leave screaming in agony or anything like that. |
Re: Vasectomy Anyone
had it done. was very nervous. had a really cool Dr. ,and told me to stay off my feet for the weekend. had it done Friday around 4:00. and was back to work Monday morning at 7:00. as long as you chill with an ice pack, you will be fine.

I. Love. Warpath.

Re: Vasectomy Anyone
I had it done last summer. The sharp, stabbing pain to your testicles goes away in about five days.
J/k. There were two moments of pain, obviously the anesthetic, which was supposed to numb the entire region. On the second 'snip' I felt a split second of intense pain. The doctor looked at me and said that always seems to happen. But trust me, once it's done, you'll be glad. I hate condoms, and the assurance that there won't be any more pregnancies on my account is quite a relief. |
Re: Vasectomy Anyone
Pulling out doesn't work? No elective surgery for this sucker, ever, especially since the procedure reversal is "possible, but expensive and low success rate."

Been there done that. ;) I'll go back and read the other stories after I post mine. lol. There are some key things to know.... 1. Make sure you have a GOOD doctor. 2. Make sure he's liberal with the medicine. 3. Don't watch. :) I worked in a hospital so i knew who was good and who was not. There are two places these can be performed.... one being in the operating room and the other in the doctors office. Mine was performed in the doctors office as an outpatient. The choice was somewhat given to me in regards to who should get the deed done. After the women gets the surgery you'll wait several weeks before sex. After the man has the surgery it's only about a few days. ;) I was taken to the procedure room and an IV was started. Then Haldol was put through the IV to relax me. Then when it was about time the doctor came in and administered localized pain medicine via shot into the lower stomach area. It was not horribly painful but it was not comfortable either. He then cut small opening into the scrotum and pulled the tube out that the sperm travels. He then put clamps on and cut in between and burned the two ends so they would not find a way to reconnect. Then he sutured me all back up. You'll have to put it on ice for 2-3 days constantly plus taking pain medicine. By day 3 1/2 I was back in action. ;) If at all posible I'd recommend having it done in the operating room where they would knock you out, but most won't do that. The key is relaxing. Do your best. |

While condoms blow, it's a small price to pay. Elliot was talking about vasectomies this morning on his show... |

Aaaaaand I'll officially never have a vasectomy. Thanks for making it easy for me. Charred epididymis? No thank you. |

Second this. Once the wife and I have a few kids my opinion may change, but as of now I don't intend to ever fire blanks. |
Re: Vasectomy Anyone
my friend had one and I don't have the hehhhhh... balls to ask him how it feels now

Like I said staying calm is half the battle but the Haldol also really helped. lol. I could have cared less which is why I watched most of the procedure. Although the smell was bad. :) |

Ha ha. The good news is after the procedure, in case people are wondering, it all feels the same. It's weird that it all "comes" out the same in appearence also. Just make sure that if guys ever want to change your mind do it pior to 5 yrs. After the 5 yr mark they can't promise you anything. |
Re: Vasectomy Anyone
A friend of mine got one, said it was the best thing he ever did. This lady at my job said that her husband got one and that it wasn't that serious. That stabbing pain thing is a little off putting though. I have one, and my wife has a Merena in now. No more kids for..... I think I have 3 years left on it. She wants to have another one but I don't know about after that. I guess I could get it done but it would have to be some serious deal making going on.
And saden I'm with you,....pulling out doesn't work ? Stop going for those last 10 pumps, pull out and live to fight another day! |
Re: Vasectomy Anyone
17 years ago my (step) father had his done. I came home from school that day and he was all laid up on the couch under a blanket. He was all doped up and loopy from the pain medication that they had given him. He asked me "_____, could you get me a glass of water?" I said "Sure dad, do you want ice in that?" He replied "Yes please." I pour him some water from the pitcher in the fridge and drop a couple of cubes into the glass and take him his water. He sips it and makes a refreshing sigh. He looks up at me with his doped up and dilated eyes and asks me "Do you want to see what they did to me boy?" Before I had a chance to answer or even say "no" he lifts the blanket off of his nude body and displays what I like to call "the horror". There it was, his once glorified "man staff" lying in a puddle of its own ooze and half mended by ineffective gauze and bandages. I turned my head and closed my eyes abruptly. I am shocked and traumatized by "the horror" I had just seen. My dad covers himself back up. He utters something to me but I am so preoccupied with the gagging sound in my head that I cannot make out the words. I determined right then and right there that I was never going to get fixed. To this day I have stayed true to that word.

Re: Vasectomy Anyone
Angry that story had me busting out laughing. Thanks for all the pros and cons from guys who have had this done. I meet with the doc tomorrow but I'm still not a 100% sure I'm going to have it done. By the way Matt what does TMI stand for?

Re: Vasectomy Anyone
You know in Va. the doctor needs your wife's ok to get your balls snipped. What the he!! is that all about? She can get an abortion without the guys OK but I need to get her OK to have my own balls snipped. They also have a freaking 30 day wait (by Law) if you don't have any kids.
