Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
12 days ago John MacClain of the Houston Chronicle started reporting that the Redskins were trying like crazy to move up and select Gabbert.
Skins Trying Hard to Trade Up to Draft a QB? » Redskins Gab
Skins Trying Hard to Trade Up to Draft a QB? April 15th, 2011 Matt Loede Posted in 2011 NFL Draft, News John McClain of the Houston Chronicle hears the Redskins are “trying like crazy” to trade up for one of this year’s elite quarterbacks. Unless the Skins offer most, if not all, of their 2012 draft class (picks from which will be severely devalued because no one even knows if there will be a 2012 draft), we have a hard time believing Mike Shanahan can execute a trade up. They don’t have a third- or fourth-round pick this year. McClain believes that the Redskins are targeting Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert.
Then everyones favorite beat writer, JLC, picked up the story yesterday and continued to run with it. NFL.com news: Redskins look to move up in draft, take Missouri QB Gabbert
Several general managers believe the Redskins, who are expected to cut ties with veteran Donovan McNabb, will make the move to land Missouri's Blaine Gabbert. The Redskins have strong reports on Gabbert and University of Washington quarterback Jake Locker, and some inside the organization believe Gabbert is worthy of the No. 1 pick.
So what do you think? Do you want him? Are you going to turn in your fan card if this happens? Is JLC full of it? How would Gabbert fit into our offense? Can Gabbert block for himself? Can he play two ways and rush the passer on defense? Will adding a 100 pounds to frame to play Nosetackle compromise his mobility when he gets under Center on offense? Go, take the topic and run with it. |

Ill trust Shanny right on this one, I still cant figure out why this guy is a top ten pick
|
Re: Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
This is all a bunch of horsehockey....we're not trading up.
|
Re: Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
I don't know what to believe.... Adam S. Reported that the Skins were one of a handful of teams looking to trade down. So I don't freaking know anymore. Who is this clown from Houston anyway.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Shanahan just said not even two months ago that he's looking to change the history of trading high draft picks, and if you plan on moving up to as high as 2nd overall, your doing something that not even Vinny has done in a long ass time if at all. |
Re: Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
I just don't believe that we would pay such a king's ransom for Gabbert. I think this is all smoke.

Re: Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
I hope it is smoke. We do not need to be trading away future picks for pricey quarterbacks. But, who knows. Shanahan has not instilled me with a lot of confidence. Right now I don't trust him.

Re: Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
Never happen.

Re: Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
Maybe we can now trade players for picks. I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one on the TV, but it seems the NFL is back in business.

Props to SportsCurmudgeon also for telling us a while back of the Broncos interest to move down.
As I said in another thread though, I believe if we move up it's for Locker |
Re: Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
I happened to catch a blip of nfl network show yesterday saying the skins were trying like hell to move up to #2 and they all thought it was to draft Cam Newton,WTF?

Re: Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
Why would u guys think this would never happen? If MS thinks Gabbert is worth it he will go get him

Because he's not. We will already have a weak draft, Shanahan cant be dumb enough to make it weaker. |

I'd love to agree with you on this, but like I said in that other thread. 3 out of 3 insiders I know of on other forums have all said the exact same thing Smoot has. We were willing to trade our #10 and next years #1 and #3 to move up to to the #2. That #3 in the 2012 could be a #4 instead according to Smoot. They stated Gabbert, then Locker. I wouldn't be upset with them picking Locker at the #10 spot, but giving up next years #1 and #3 (or #4 whichever it is) is ****ing insane. |
Re: Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
Those people said Locker too? Interesting.
|
Re: Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
Shanny is thinking about a possible Sam Bradford like impact w Gabbert, the Rams roster was far worse than ours so anything is a possibility right now
|
Re: Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
For those that follow college ball closely, how does Gabbert compare to Bradford as a prospect?

You couldn't beat Bradford's accuracy & quick release plus he can read defenses better than any prospects last year |
Re: Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
Well I didn't say he's as good as Sam , I was just saying he may be this drafts best and smartest QB. Shanny must like the guy a lot according to these multiple reports

I think Cam will go #1 to Carolina, but yeah that would seem to make more sense (at least to me) than moving up to get Gabbert at 2 |
Re: Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
Those people said Locker too? Interesting.
They've stated that the if they can't get Gabbert, then Locker is the second choice. However, I don't think they'd move up to #2 just to get Locker. Like you said, I think they may move up a few spots for Locker, but if they want Gabbert, they'll have to go to #2-4 to make that happen. It'll be funny as hell if the Panthers selected Gabbert or some other player to watch the dominoes fall. |

I think Cam could fall to us or beyond if he doesn't go #1 |

I don't know if they would pick him. I think they'd pick Locker over Cam. That's just my guess though. |

gabbert plays slow to me. i think he is too casual. he has ideal size and a great arm but he doesnt have college body of work to show for it that bradford does. |

Re: Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
Yet so many were against drafting Bradford last year... so I'm going to take any opinions on Gabbert with a serious grain of salt.

Are you saying experts or folks on here? IMO, speaking experts only there was much more buzz about Bradford last year then Gabbert and or Newton this year, IMO. If all 3 were in the same draft I still think Bradford goes first over them. |

against us, the redskins, signing bradford yes, but no knock on him overall. same with gabbert i just don't think the time is right for a qb, odds are in our favor that we will have a pretty damn low draft pick next year. and before anyone says that there aren't any great prospects at qb next year i would love to hear who thought blaine gabbert was going to be a top ten pick this time last year. and fyi it's an internet message board, gotta take everything with a grain of salt ;) |

theyre reasoning was Cam was a better fit for the skins then Carolina so they were guessing he would still be available |

As I said in another thread though, I believe if we move up it's for Locker
Not to show my frustration towards you SS, your the messenger, but WHY THE F#CK WOULD WE TRADE UP FOR LOCKER??!?!?!?!?! he's supposed to go late in the draft, and should definitely be there for us at 10, so why would we waste picks on a third round talent in the first round. It's going to be like the Raiders taking Heyward-Bey. I'm already pissed that we want to draft a QB, I'm more pissed that we want to trade up/draft Gabbert, I'm extremely pissed that we still want Locker in the first round, I'm Fing Livid that we want to trade up for his crappy inaccurate ass!!! |

I wasn't. I was against trading our entire draft for him, but then again seeing the players we picked we might as well should have just traded our entire draft and McNabb for him. |
Re: Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert
Don't worry I wasn't expecting anyone to step up and admit they were against taking Bradford last year.
