Redskins Potentially Interested in Trading Up For Gabbert

12 days ago John MacClain of the Houston Chronicle started reporting that the Redskins were trying like crazy to move up and select Gabbert.

Skins Trying Hard to Trade Up to Draft a QB?
April 15th, 2011 Matt Loede Posted in 2011 NFL Draft, News

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle hears the Redskins are “trying like crazy” to trade up for one of this year’s elite quarterbacks.

Unless the Skins offer most, if not all, of their 2012 draft class (picks from which will be severely devalued because no one even knows if there will be a 2012 draft), we have a hard time believing Mike Shanahan can execute a trade up. They don’t have a third- or fourth-round pick this year. McClain believes that the Redskins are targeting Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert.
Then everyones favorite beat writer, JLC, picked up the story yesterday and continued to run with it.
NFL.com news: Redskins look to move up in draft, take Missouri QB Gabbert
Quote:
Several general managers believe the Redskins, who are expected to cut ties with veteran Donovan McNabb, will make the move to land Missouri's Blaine Gabbert. The Redskins have strong reports on Gabbert and University of Washington quarterback Jake Locker, and some inside the organization believe Gabbert is worthy of the No. 1 pick.
So what do you think? Do you want him? Are you going to turn in your fan card if this happens? Is JLC full of it? How would Gabbert fit into our offense? Can Gabbert block for himself? Can he play two ways and rush the passer on defense? Will adding a 100 pounds to frame to play Nosetackle compromise his mobility when he gets under Center on offense? Go, take the topic and run with it.

I don't know what to believe.... Adam S. Reported that the Skins were one of a handful of teams looking to trade down. So I don't freaking know anymore. Who is this clown from Houston anyway.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Shanahan just said not even two months ago that he's looking to change the history of trading high draft picks, and if you plan on moving up to as high as 2nd overall, your doing something that not even Vinny has done in a long ass time if at all.

I just don't believe that we would pay such a king's ransom for Gabbert. I think this is all smoke.

this is simply not going to happen and i'm glad the draft is tomorrow so all these stupid rumors are put to bed. the chances of us getting gabbert is slim to none. no one is going to tell anyone what they're going to actually do. the redskins are probably doing their due diligence and calling around to put rumors out there.

I hope it is smoke. We do not need to be trading away future picks for pricey quarterbacks. But, who knows. Shanahan has not instilled me with a lot of confidence. Right now I don't trust him.

Maybe we can now trade players for picks. I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one on the TV, but it seems the NFL is back in business.

Props to SportsCurmudgeon also for telling us a while back of the Broncos interest to move down.

As I said in another thread though, I believe if we move up it's for Locker

Because he's not.
We will already have a weak draft, Shanahan cant be dumb enough to make it weaker.
