Schottenheimer

Apparently Marty Schottenheimer wanted to leave his interview after the Colts game to watch the Skins v.s. Cowboys. I wonder why? Anyone know?

Marty and Joe Gibbs are friends, and they both have homes outside Charlotte. Marty probably was pulling for the Skins!

Yep. They play golf regularly.

And Marty still maintains that he left the Skins on good terms with Snyder, it was just a matter of differing opinions about the front office structure. He's probably still pulling for us.

Of course he's on good terms with Snyder, I'd be on good terms with anyone who paid me $15 million to NOT coach his team anymore.

maybe if the San Diego doesnt' make the playoffs he could be out, and come back to Washington in some capacity. If Joe leaves and GW has left he would coach again. Who else would come here.

Marty was let go for 1 reason and 1 reason only, the OBC decided to leave the U of Fla and DS wanted him more than any other coach on the planet.

I would also guess Marty to be a guy who doesn't have Parcells high on his list. I bet a bunch of coaches and players around the league had a smile on their face when they saw the score of this one.

in training camp when marty told darrell green he had a problem with his pass covering skills his fate was sealed... what an idiot

If not GW, it will be Russ Grimm if he doesn't have a job already.

Marty was fired because he wouldn't make the changes in his coaching staff that were so despiratly needed and give some of his control to Snyder and co.

Actually, Marty has spoken fondly of D.C. and Gibbs several times. He's just said he was given more time in D.C. to do something because he thought he was making headway before he left.

It appears that maybe Shotty knows a little bit more about how to put together a good team than Snyder. So, I think we should have given him more control.

Gibbs isnt leaving anytime soon.

After this year, he will stay one more year. I seriously doubt he will stay anylonger than that. Especially if we go deep into the playoffs, or make a super bowl showing. If the organization want GW to take over there will have to be some sort of agreement about the length of time Joe is staying. And I dont think GW will wait longer than another year. If he even waits that long.

Re: Schottenheimer

Gibbs will coach until the end of his contract. GW is gone at the end of this year. All we can do is wish him well and hope he doesnt take too many of his D coaches with him.

why any skins fan would sound on marty s. is beyond me.he had this franchise headed in the right direction with actual football people running it and got fired for not giving daniel snyder any say in the process.i think in due time he would have the skins sucessful and into the playoffs

I agree completely. It's easy now that the skins have Gibbs back to say that getting rid of Marty was a good decision. Reality is it was a terrible desicion...Marty had the skins playing with heart and gelling towards the end of his lone season. Danny may have turned chicken shit back into chicken salad by bringing back Gibbs a couple years later but pushing Marty out on it's own was a terrible decision. Marty may have a bad playoff record but he is a very good coach and a well respected figure in the league which is exactly what Snyder needed at that point. I don't think there is any reason for us to rip on Marty...he has never said a bad word about the redskins even after Snyder broke all the promises he made to him 12 months later.

Re: Schottenheimer

firing marty was a bad decision, not giving lewis the head job was a mistake... getting JG and GW is a total coup, but we've had more chances at great coaching than just about any franchise out there in the last few years.
