It doesn't make it any better for that individual, but it's a little more palatable for the taxpayer who isn't funding their junk-food lifestyle.

You are right though, about people with generally crappy lives not really being concerned with a healthy diet. I saw that a lot when I lived in Gainseville, FL. It's so po-dunk down there, and all fried food, sweet tea, budweiser, and Marlboro's... yuck.
