Re: Take 70Chip's Mark Brunell Rorshock Test

I previously thought that the best thing to do with Campbell was to wait until the Skins had 7 losses and then start him. They would be completely out of playoff contention so why not at that point.

However, after watching Brunell yesterday, it's an insult (or indict to Campbell not to start him know. How can Campbell not give us a better chance to win than Brunell?

The facts on Brunell are plain and simple--he is not that mobile anymore and he is limited in the type of throws he can make. He limits his mistakes mostly by taking high percentage dumpoffs (either due to lack of his own confidence, in ability or scheme, or lack of confidence by his OC). Finally, he plays to avoid contact. This is the most troubling because even older QBs like Favre, Johnson, and Bledsoe stand in the pocket and deliver the ball while getting drilled.

If Campbell cannot at least do what Brunell offers--then we should all be very worried about Campbell. What Gibbs is then saying is they made a mistake in trading up to draft him. If Campbell is not ready now, with the current QB play, then I can only conclude that he is a bust (if I trust the coaches).

oop except Betts. Betts LOOOVES Brunell. he's his golden ticket off this team.

as a notable Brunell defender in recent games, i wondered what you thought about us owing Brunell another start or had any reason for him to start next week really.

Where is Tripp's post?

Ties the first Dallas game for ineptitude, although the deck was stacked heavily against him. The interception should never have been thrown.

I wouldn't make the switch this week for multiple reasons. Number 1, you don't want to break Jason Campbell in on the road when the team isn't playing well. Number 2, it would be a significant injustice to Mark Brunell to bench him after forcing him into the situation that the coaching staff and team did. Number 3, we will never play another game that is this difficult to win this season. So although we have next to nil chance to win the division, a wild card berth is a possibility if we win out against a schedule where we have all of our tough games at home, where weve been right in every contest over the last two seasons. It still would be a bad decision to try to have Campbell save the season.

The switch is certainly on the horizion though. If we as a team can't beat Tampa Bay, the switch should be made. I'm guessing this is the way Gibbs is thinking right now.

But if you are relying on a 2nd year inexpirenced player to save the franchise, you have another thing coming.

this was the first Tripp post had after the game, kinda out of left field (he said he was just expressing the opposite view) and riled a lot of people up.

i'll log in a solid #2 for a few weeks now. incidentally, what does this have to do with a rorschach test? i thought it was a visual test where you're supposed to see what you want to see. . . oh, i get it.

I understand what he's saying but I disagree about us owing Brunell anything. He's had his time and now it's clearly time to start thinking about a future that doesn't involve him.

Regarding the switch and when it will happen, I said a few weeks ago that I don't expect the change to be made until we hit 7 losses.

We certainly do not owe Brunell anything. Once you cannot competently perform your job, you lose your job. Business is business. I do agree that a change will probably not be made until we've hit 7 loses. If there is a change before this, it will be Collins rather than Campell, as the coaches will want to see if we have a better chance with an Al Saunders guy running the Saunders system. I'd hate to see this happen though

Re: Take 70Chip's Mark Brunell Rorshock Test

I'm a #2. Before the Eagles game, I was still a #3, but now I'm definitely teetering on the #2 fence.

However, what we all think is completely different from the reality that is Brunell will most likely start against Bucs, and even the Panthers before the Skins are mathematically out of it. We can all scream for Campbell until we pass out from exhaustion, but Gibbs and Saunders have a game plan, and will execute it until a playoff bid is completely lost. Campbell is going to get some playing time this year, but the question is when.

Oh, and I cracked up about the Andrew Walter comparison, here are the stats:

Brunell (#10)
162-260 (62.3%), 1789 yds, 8 TDs, 4 INTs, 3-6 record, Offense has scored 165 points, 48 of 165 from TD passes

Walter (#34, last among Qualified Leaders)
104-216 (48.1%), 1305 yds, 3 TDs, 9 INTs, 2-7 record, Offense has scored 105 points, 18 of 105 from TD passes

Yeah but he's 10 times better than Brunell. Ok maybe not 10 times, just 2 times.

Yeah, cause all of those garbage stats that Brunell accumulated tell the real story.

What you think means nothing to me. You exposed yourself today.

Paraphrase "Shows that we will fight"...

Are we all in this together Matty? Was Lavar scheduled to go in certain packages? (Insert Archuletta if you feel like it).

If I want to hear the Gibbs press conference, I will listen to a blog over and over.

Keep drinking the Kool-Aid...

Alright, you know what I'm done with playing these stupid games with you.

Mainly because I can't figure out what the hell you are talking about, but also because this is childish.

Sorry if I offended you in any way. Let's just move on and be happy that Campbell is finally going to start. Believe it or not I am happy about the move.
