Re: Are we a playoff team?

It's not so much about being negative, and not about being a kool-aid drinker. It's about calling it like we see it.

Our defense was in the right place at the right time on the two interceptions. Warner just flat out missed his targets. It wasn't like Taylor or Fletcher made amazing plays on the ball, Warner threw it right to them. Now, you do have to credit Taylor and Fletcher for impressive run-backs. But can you count on your defense to get INTs like that when you're playing QBs who are considered above-average? Can we expect that when we play Dallas? New England? Hell, even McNabb again?

The offense is not looking strong with so many linemen hurt. We can't run the ball effectively, and that has to concern everybody. Without Rabach, we were very vulnerable up the middle, and Campbell had to rush several throws.

If Rabach comes back strong, I'll feel a little better. But in general, the offensive line all needs to play better, or we'll be lucky to squeak into the playoffs at all.

Exactly, call a spade a spade.

If we need 3 turnovers, a pick-6, blocked PAT, and a lucky FG miss to win against a lowly team such as the Cardinals I would think we have serious issues. I am happy for the win, but realistically it just shows how bad we are.
We won and teams have to fine ways to win. Last week we played good and lost (so people Pi$$ed and moaned) yesterday we played bad and won and people are still Pi$$ind and moaning. Can anyone here just enjoy a win?

Not really, because HOW we played matters. How we played is indicative of how we're likely to play in the future.

More days like that one on offense spells a lot of losses. That's just how it is, pal.

Don't get me wrong, the fact that we won is great. It may even have saved us from a viscious downward spiral. But if you want the next 5 weeks (4 games on the road) to be more Ws than Ls, you have to play much better than we just did. Joe Gibbs will tell you the EXACT same thing.

What people need a dose of here is expectations management. The reality is that for teams that aren't yet at elite caliber (and I'm talking of two teams -- Indy and New England), squeakers and ugly wins are just a fact of life. It's called inconsistency and it is hard to shake, I'll give you that.

We can go .500 over the next 4-5 games and make the playoffs. Period. And, other than Indy or New England, I really do think that this team could beat anybody else in the league if the team that throttled Detroit shows up to play rather than the one that squeaked by Arizona.

But, that's life with an improving, mid-level team. Some of you act like we were headed for the Super Bowl all along and have somehow botched it. I think you must be confusing this team with San Diego, New Orleans, Detroit, Carolina or any of the other sexy contender picks who are flailing miserably right now.

We are OUTPERFORMING where 90% of the so-called analysts said we'd be. Don't confuse homer love for superior understanding of the NFL, we were never going to be an elite team this year.

"playoffs?!? . . you wanna talk about playoffs?!?"

this has been said a bunch of times already . . . if Randy Thomas wasnt injured then yes, i do believe with this start we would be playoff bound. It will be close, week 17 against Dallas will be rockin'!!!!!!

Re: Are we a playoff team?

My roomate, also a redskins fan thinks that there is a good possibility for there to be three NFC East teams in the Playoffs. While this is possible, Im not sure it is very probable. On the other hand if you look around the NFC the chances that it will happen look pretty good.

Second place in the NFC North is Detroit who we beat out in a tie.
Same thing in the west having beaten the Cards.

So it really comes down to Carolina and Tampa (At least at this point in the season), and we play Tampa, so beating them would also give us the tie in that situation.

All in all if we go 10-6 we could make the Wild Card even if New York beats us out, and it is possible that if we went 9-7 we could as well.

Like I said I am hesitant to buy into this, because you never know what is gonna happen throughout the rest of the season, I just wonder what you guys think as far as wether three NFC East teams will make the playoffs.

Yes, don't you recall all the preseason hype over the Detroit air attack, the improved defense, etc?

They were a trendy pick for NFC surprise contender. And they were expected to kick the crap out of us by many analysts.
