Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)
I think it's clear that we have more needs on defense than on offense. We could handle some of those needs internally just by some players getting healthy, by re-signing a player or two, and perhaps by using a couple of players differently.
If Culliver and Ihenacho recover fully, they might well be starters at CB and SS. If Galette is fully recovered and re-signs with us, he'll start at one OLB spot. I like the idea of using Preston Smith at DT, at least on passing downs. He is 6-5 and 270 lbs. right now. He could bulk up to 290 lbs. and handle the role that Hatcher wasn't able to fulfill. You're looking at 3 or 4 upgrades right there. As for the draft, I think we'll go heavy on defense. That's because our greatest needs are on that side and I still do not buy into the idea that anyone actually drafts purely BPA, no matter how many times they may claim to do so. Sherff was not a BPA pick IMO. Beyond that, we need to add playmakers on defense to get our D to the next level. Whether we find them in the draft or in FA, it makes no difference to me.

I guess I'm not the only one that thinks like this, it's a no brainer:
One free agent makes a ton of sense for Redskins | CSN Mid-Atlantic

Mack is a no brainer as long as the money is right. Doesn't seem like a SM move.

If McClue is who we think he is we can find an equal cheaper in the draft.

Actually fairly deep at the position just not a stand out. That said, I don't know if you could draft one and immediately plug him in. Maybe the kid from Notre dame...

Only one or two with size we're looking for.

Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)
SM likes value signings and guys 27 or younger in free agency. he doesn't fit either of those. not a bad player, just not one that i think we'll be signing.

Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)
I think Mack would be great IF at the right price. Sure, he is older but, if we get a couple years out of him while grooming his replacement, yay!
Not sure what the right price would be, but I am betting our "right price" is lower than his "right price" so I don't think it happens ... and that's okay too.
