Re: What is CP worth

How many threads are going to discuss dropping players that cannot be dropped with the current salary cap?

CP doesn't work in Saunders system? That is funny, he was leading the NFC in touchdowns when he got hurt.

Why would we get rid of a guy who runs his ass off whether he is healthy or not? Because he got hurt?

Pure insanity.

I think Portis is terrific, but economically we could have someone just as productive as him in Saunders's system for much much less. I hope Portis adapts to Saunders's system or Saunders molds his system to fit CP more, but if things do not work out and he does not produce under Saunders like he did for Gibbs, what do you think we could get for him? Draft pick wise preferably, or mention people you think we need and could get for him.
I have a problem with this, this seems to be the trend we follow year after year. Saunders has done absolutely nothing for this team, so we trade off Portis for a lesser accomplished back with potential(Trung Canidate anyone) and a couple of draft picks, so after Saunders flops because his offense just isnt tailored to the NFC east, what does that leave us with, absolutely nothing. If Saunders doesnt leave this team before Portis I will be outraged. Trading CP is alot like what we did when we traded Champ Bailey, theres absolutely nothing that would be of equal value, CP in my mind is a top 5 back when healthy and in my oppinion is the absolute best blocking back in the league, in my mind he should be absolutely untouchable as far as trades are concerned.

Exactly, he had like 7 touchdowns right? I don't get it either, if anything CP can run to the outside better than betts or duckett, and that is exactly what Al did in KC. Either way CP is top 5 back in the NFL, he can run strong inside, and hop outside. That is what makes him amazing. I cannot imagine cutting/trading him.

Clinton Portis is one of the best rushers in the league. Trading him away would be the worst move they've made...and they've made plenty of bad ones

Re: What is CP worth

Maybe the colts should trade Manning or the pats could get a #1 for Brady. Portis is elite, untouchable, a "keeper league" player. This whole discussion is asinine and I already regret posting in this tread knowing it will be sent to the top.

Re: What is CP worth

yea CP had 7TD's but with the exception of the Jacksonville game there was not a single game where he was consistantly able to pick up yards. We had so many 3 and outs. He'd have like 15 carries for 35 yards and a touchdown or two, and most of the yards he picked up that went towards his stats came from situations like 3rd and 25 and we'd call a run and CP would pick up 20. Our O-line isnt great but its not horrible either. And CP will be getting 8 mil a year soon. And yea hes not doing bad, but is he really worth 8 mil a year?

BTW im just kinda playing the devils advocate, I think CP is great, and will eventually pick up Saunders's system, but I dont think he had a good year this year. I dont actaully want to get rid of him now, I just think that on that off chance that CP doesnt get back into his old preformance mode within a couple of seasons but does OK,(ie repeats this year) then we should trade him because I think we could pick up a key player or two that we really need for him in a trade, and if he isn't preforming then we can easily get someone that preforms just as well and gets paid what they preform

Re: What is CP worth

Here's my answer to the argument of Clinton Portis not being a good fit for Saunders' system. First of all, Saunders has been all over the place in calling plays this year. This team thrives on ball controlled offense, and we had gotten away from that this year. We haven't really allowed our running backs the opportunity to run the ball as much as we needed to. You know the Redskins are in trouble when the opposing team has the advantage in time of possession.

With that said, you give Clinton enough carries, he's going to get stronger. All good running backs get better when giving them more carries. It seems that we had gotten in the position...alot of times, of having to play with our backs up against the wall, and Saunders seems to want to take to the air more in those situations.

Now, I will believe once we get Campbell going, we'll see how truly successful Al Saunders can be and how good our running backs can be in his offense, but I'd say that right now, no running back is going to be a great fit in Saunders' offense until the team figures his offense out, and until we continue to feed the ball to the backs more than what we had been doing up until this past Sunday.

Re: What is CP worth

besides LT becuz he just 2 great, CP iz the most complete back and the NFL he can block break tackles and catch out the backfield a handful in the open field alot of he trouble iz when the line doesn't get a push or iz in the whole clinton iz hitting you get 1 or 2 yard gainz but i see him make sumthing out of nothin and just get tripped up wit nothing but open field and front of him. face it people we have a TOP 3 Back and the NFL trust me he's the real deal.
