Re: What Pet Food You Use?
Are you saying that there can be no bacteria in the cheaper food? That's actually believed to be one of the leading causes of bladder infection in pets. Storing the food poorly or adding moisture and letting sit easily help spread the bacteria which is often E. Coli

Re: What Pet Food You Use?
Was using Nutro Natural Choice dry dog food that I would add water to. Now I use Pedigree. Two reasons.... cheaper by about $20 for same size bag and in most food stores.

Me and the wife had talked about getting a dog but after reading this thread and all of the different food choices that need to be made we might just get some fish.

Re: What Pet Food You Use?
Working at Petsmart, in the breakroom there's a chart that identifies the grade of food you can provide dogs and cats. Here's a gist of it:
Low grade - Kibbles n Bits, Chef Michael, Cesar, Pedigree, Mighty Dog, Dog Chow, Alpo Medium Grade - Science Diet, Iams, Eukaneuba, Nutro, Beneful High Grade - Blue Buffalo, Authority, Nature's Recipe and other organic dog food. My manager used to say that feeding your dogs anything from the low grade food category, was like the equivalent of humans eating Chinese Food all the time. It's food and it gets the job done, but it's not the best for you. Personally, Science Diet seems to treat most dogs and cats pretty well. I convinced my friend to switch over from buying to store brand Walmart food, and she noticed a definite difference in her dog's poop quality and general well being.

Wise choice! Dogs are a lot of work. I have two and love them but once they move on to a better place it will take a ton of convincing to get me to get another ever again.

Those sound more like reasons to avoid it.

![]() You could look into a hollistic food targeted for senior dogs, I don't think it's a common additive. I'd probably buy some supplements. Drs. Foster and Smith is a great place to get dog vitamins and healthy treats. Search Results for glucosamine Dog Joint Support with Glucosamine: Joint Care Level 3 at Drs. Foster and Smith They have other products for arthritic dogs too. Dog Arthritis: Ramps, carriers, raised feeders, and beds for dogs with arthritis.

Re: What Pet Food You Use?
Found a quality food with Glucosamine and Chrondroitin added to it. I've heard good things about this brand:

Re: What Pet Food You Use?
I use Iams, but my dog farts a lot, so I tried Nutro because it was supposed to help, but it didn't. So, back to Iams. Anyone else have this problem?

Re: What Pet Food You Use?
There's also nothing wrong with (so I've read) feeding your dog a raw diet. (Raw/lightly seared meat). I've read about it in lots of holistic dog magazines.
Does anyone do/have any information on that?
