I watched that play again and it appears that Brunell was actually trying to throw the ball out of bounds but underthrew it due, at least in part, to a pass rush.

As for Portis' comments, I can understand them but strongly disliked them. I understand that he is frustrated that he was injured and that he might not be "full-go" come week 1. I also really like Portis. That said, the guy should keep his mouth shut. He has no business complaining about being in the game for one series.

The bottom line is that the injury is no one's fault. Brunell underthrew a pass. Gibbs kept Portis in for one series. Portis was injured while trying to make a tackle. Hey, those things happen in football.
