But could we afford a clear square and a defense? That's the question

Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread

I want to sign Cousins really bad but not at the expense to the rest of the team. If he thinks he's deserves more than Rodgers/Brady/ Brees/ Eli / Ben... let him prove it elsewhere.
I like his numbers but it's all Fantasy Fluff if you're not playing in January. Flacco bet on himself and won a Superbowl we didn't even make the playoffs.

We aren't in Baltimore's position. We have plenty of cap room to pay KC and build the team. Its not an either or for us at this point. As for letting him prove it elsewhere, that's just crazy. A top 12 qb doesn't just come along - how many qbs had we gone through before the RG3/KC draft - and most of our losses were defense/st which he has no control over. Yes he had two bonehead games but other than Brady every qb has those.

We only have 65 million in cap room, maybe we just don't have room after all.

that is before cutting DHall, Kory L, S Lauvao, Paul... which adds about $12 million

So sign KC to a 5 year $125 million dollar contract... $50 million guaranteed ...$25 million signing bonus... year 1- $10 million.... year 2 -$15 million year 3 -$25 million.... year 4 -$25 million.... year 5 - $25 million (maybe a little low)
year 1 cap hit 15 million

Sign Garcon to 3 years $35 million $10 million signing bonus... salary 5/10/10
year 1 cap hit $8.3 million

Say no to Baker... to expensive

Sign free agents;

Bengals Guard Zeitler / OL - year 1 $8 million cap#

Davis TE ......................... $2.5 million cap #

Buffalo Gilmore / Texas Bouye CB $9 million cap #

Free Agent... level B free safety FS $6 million cap #
.................................................. .........................
Cost close to $50 million

This leave room for a few 1 year contracts.

Draft

Round 1 DL
Round 2 DL/OLB
Round 3 RB
Round 4a TE
Round 4b DL
Round 5a FS
Round 5b SS
Round 6a WR
Round 6b CB
Round 7 C

Couple things, first you don't address the Front 7 in free agency with legit talent. And you say Chris Baker (lotta hate for this guy...I have zero clue why) is too expensive but give Garcon 35 million.

Zeilter wouldn't be a bad option, I didn't think he was a FA. There are several really lots options at Guard and Linebacker in free agency.

Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread

What if I told you that we could Sign Kirk and still build a defense?

We live in a new age where the cap is ever growing.

You should find a way to tell Scot M, because he believes that you can't do both.

SM knows he can, but you don't give away what little leverage you have in a negotiation. His only card is the team building aspect, if he says you can do both at the beginning of negotiations, then he might as well just sign whatever KC's agent puts in front of him.

Does he believe that? Or does he just say it in public because he doesn't want to give up what little leverage we have? There is a difference between the two.

That is kinda of a misnomer; the cap growing is also in proportion to salaries growing, cost of money and inflation. If salaries stayed flat and the the cap grow that be great but unfortunately they usually follow each other.
