Can't be mad at him. Also, can't blame Bruce Allen for making an aggressive move. You can blame him for not signing Cousins in 2015, but you can't blame him for trading for Smith now.

Time for everybody to pull up their big boy pants and tie their big boy shoes and move on with life. Let's sign some mother f'n free agents! I'm ready for the next episode.
I agree. I am disappointed in this conclusion but I will still be rooting for this team to get better. If Kirk had any interest in staying with us, he wouldn't have declared his intention to wait until March to negotiate. That basically says he favors us no more than any other team. Good luck to him elsewhere. Also, I will take this opportunity to say Bruce's failings with Kirk add to his already long list of failings and reasons why he should be fired. Won't happen but I just want it to be clear where I stand.

“I expect to be a free agent come March 14. We’ll see if that plays out, and if it does, it’s a unique opportunity I look forward to. Haven’t had a chance to pick where I’m going to play since 2007 when I chose to go to Michigan State. Looking forward to that opportunity.”

I've never heard someone cry so much about being mistreated yet getting 45M over the last 2 years lol I wish someone treated me like that.

The bottom quote says it all, he wants to pick his place to play and we all knew it wasn't the redskins. I like kirk but glad he's gone
You'd think the Redskins might want to pick up the phone and tell Fuller and Cousins what's going on, before they hear it on social media or a text message. But this is what I expect from the Redskins. They do business in a shitty way.

I have no further interest in KC's past or future in the NFL. It's not a negative thing. It's just that he's no longer part of my favorite team and I'm a straight homer. Wherever he goes, I won't be following his career because he'll be part of another NFL team, none of which I care much about. So, Best Wishes Kirk!

BTW, I'm also done with this thread. See the above for my reason.

Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0

I don't begrudge anybody for going for what they want. He wanted to play for an organization with a more winning pedigree. Fine.

That said, he really shouldn't be surprised the Redskins made a move. I mean they made several overtures and he said he wanted to go to free agency. You can't blame them. The last thing they could afford to do is go into free agency, try to bid for Kirk, and ultimately have him decide to go somewhere else. By then they would have missed out on Alex Smith and who knows how many other options.

You didn't want to be a Redskin. That's OK, it's your right. But as soon as the team realized you weren't interested, it's their responsibility to figure out another plan. Smith is a good option.

I'll always have a soft spot for Kirk but yeah, you can't help but feel spurned by the obvious desire to leave juxtaposed against all the sweet talking he did about Washington. Just stop, and move on with your career.

I think this the players finding out on Twitter shit is way overblown.

Someone leaked this story earlier than planned and it happened in KC.

It's a non story. It's impossible for teams to control this kind of thing with the speed of information these days. These guys all know they are in a field where they can be traded, released, etc. It's not like one of us being traded or fired and hearing about it 2nd hand.

Also, you don't usually tell the guy you're trading or replacing until a deal is done. So don't tell me a good organization would give them a heads up.

Kirk taking the high road but He NEVER EVER wanted to be here..The Skins paid him a ton of money the last two years and what did that get this team? missed playoffs !!! is it all on him no but when you want to be paid like the man..BE THE MAN! My guess is his next 3 years in league will be average and whatever team will do okay ..just like with Smith we should be average 8-8 9-7 type team . I don't see that we lost the Superstar elite QB ..its close to being even trade except for Fuller ( that hurts!)

Fuller for Smith is basically the trade, we recoup the third rounder with a comp pick next year.

I'm done with this thread too. He's gone and I'm glad to have Alex.

Let me ask you guys this, can they force Cousins to only be traded? I mean doesn't he have to sign something? What if he tells Dan and Bruce, "i'm not signing anything". If they slapped another tag on him, would that force him to sit out the entire 2018 season?

Kirk has to sign a tender to be traded. He has no incentive to do so now.

Why not sit out, and train, for $34 mil? Skins FO would be even more of a laughingstock than they already are.

The exclusive franchise tag would be beyond stupid, even for Allen and Snyder.

The non-exclusive franchise tag would make it beyond stupid for any other team to sign Kirk. $34 mil and two 1st rd picks? Of course, look what the Skins gave up for RGIII...

The transition tag limits Kirk's salary to "only" 28 mil, but the Skins get no compensation.

I think tagging Kirk now would be pure, transparent, counter-productive spite on Allen and Snyder's part, unless there's some trade option I don't know. And Kirk is still laughing all the way to the bank. He earned it the past couple years.

So let's pretend to play Devil's Advocate, or pretend to be Bruce Allen just for a minute. We slap the franchise tag on Kirk for 34 million this season, but also complete our trade with Alex Smith and legally sign him when the new league year begins. So that means Cousins is getting his 34 million, and Alex Smith in his first year is getting around what, 22 million?

How Much will this affect our salary cap, how much will be available for other players if we have 56 million tied up in two quarterbacks? I don't know the cap part but i imagine this would be brutal, as well as make us more of a laughing stock than we already are.

Agreed. Have to hear from MTK, Scheed, or some other knowledgeable poster about the cap. I assume this Bizarro World scenario would cripple our free agency this year. Maybe even have to cut players just for cap relief.
