Re: What REALLY grinds your gears?

I have never owned my own vehicle (that I paid for) until October. I've been leasing the previous 10 years. Never got a chip in my window.

Less than 1 year in, I already have 2 of them now. Such bullshit.

Unless the crack distorts my view as a driver I let cracks go that are unrepairable; factory seal is the best seal.

They are both small and below my line of sight. It's more just the principle. So I'm gonna leave em be. Someone said that there is some sort of gel you can put on small ones. Haven't looked into it yet tho.

In VA you have to fix them to pass inspection; in Maryland there is no yearly inspection. I have a crack at the top of windshield in the tinted visor. What’s the point? I could replace the windshield ($250) then drive five minutes from the shop and have it happen again.

Unless the state makes me or it’s in my line of vision it’s staying.

I've had about 5 windshields replaced in the last 10 years, if the crack stays below 2 inches or so and it's not in your direct line of sight you should be fine, but if it expands every state inspector will fail you in VA.

I'm fortunate, Nationwide considers windshield cracks no fault and they partner with Safelite so every time my shit cracks and it expands (which is literally 5/6 times, the one chip that didn't expand took another hit a month later that did expand) I call up Nationwide, they direct connect me to Safelite who does the job. Deductible is $100 but you only gotta pay it the first windshield replacement, they have a lifetime warranty on it so every replacement afterwards is free.

Yeah, you made that clear. If nobody makes you fix it, don't.

My post was more for the VA crowd here. They will make you fix it. Nothing worse than going to a state inspection with a small crack and the inspector fails you.

Is it a chip or a crack? Safelite can fix both if the're under a certain size and give you a guarantee .
