The State of the Redskins (MERGED)

Why would we pay Smoot #1 money for his #2 ability. So far this year he has no INT's and 1 Pass Defensed. Ryan Clark didn't even start for us his first five games when we got him from the Giants and he only ended up with 65 tackles and 1 Pass Defensed his first year with us. He would be an upgrade right now but only because he had two years with us to finally become, at best, decent. Archuleta definitely sucks BIG TIME in coverage but he is by far a better tackler than Ryan Clark could ever hope to be. Archuleta will get better as will the CB play, especially from Wright. Rogers is still learning but he has been thrust into the #1 role a little too early for his own development. He may get there but I see him as a #2 for us if we keep him once his contract expires.

I miss Pierce and I was certain at the time he would be a Redskin for life but having only one great year with us doesn't mean you're getting the best payout. Plus, I'm sure (again, at the time) the thought process was that it was GW's system that made him so good. There's some saying about hindsight...
