Well, fact, 28 is the average age of an NFL player. So assuming that half are on one side of their prime, half on the other, my statement makes logical sense.

This is a far cry from saying that he would be a useless player. He would actually still be in his prime. But thats the crazy thing about second contracts, is that they tend to be very expensive. You don't want to be handing out an expensive contract to a safety who won't be improving. That's not assinine, thats common sense.

The Franchise Tag may be a reasonable option if we want to keep him in town for 2011. You want to make him prove to you that he can keep playing.

Theoretically, Taylor is still improving now, and his contract is great value for the next 4 seasons. We have Landry in the wings, so we aren't committed to the guy, which is a very good thing. Let him play out his contract here. If we have a ton of cap room in 2011, let him set his market value and then go pay it.

You NEVER extend a contract for a guy who has 3+ years left on it. Everybody knows that. Too much can go wrong injury-wise.
