Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
This would be another stupid move by a broken/disfunctional franchise. For some reason the Skins feel the need to use evryone else's cast off and reject coaches insteading of bringing in a new coach and letting him prove himself. I cant imagine the results would be any worse than they have been.

Yeah I'm a big Schwartz fan too. I think Williams deserves another chance to be head coach, and his best opportunity to succeed would probably come here but he's not the end all and be all answer.

It continues to amaze me the conviction people have (not pointing to you Irish) about Grilliams being the sure deal to make us a long term winner. Last I checked, he was one of the coaching 'leaders' on a team that went 5-11 in 2006. If Gibbs stepped down after last year there would be about 1/3 of the support for GW.. The herd mentality that some people have is baffling to me.. I challenge anyone to give 5 reasons EXCLUDING CONTINUITY (because we don't know what Williams plans truly would be) that he would be the sure fire lock for the best choice. I'll even spot you #1. #1-The players, Gibbs and other coaches support and endorse him.. #2- #3- #4- #5-

Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
He's not mine:
#1 - The players, Gibbs and other coaches support and endorse him.. #2 - A new coach will not have the ability to change the roster for another 3 years at least. The cap situation will make it too difficult. The new coach will, for the most part, have to sink or swim for the next three years with the players already on the roster. See this thread for more: http://www.redskinswarpath.com/locke...ebuilding.html #3 - Can we please keep Jason Campbell in the same offensive system? Note that every time the team has gone with a new system, the year after the change resulted in 5-11 season (2004) and a 6-10 season (2006). After being in a system for a year, the team went to the playoffs in each subsequent season. #4 - Getting rid of Gregg will mean you lose Saunders, Jerry Gray, and possibly Joe Bugel. I can't seen any scenario in which the new staff is comprised of better coaching minds than the one we've got right now. It's not all about the head coaches, it's about the assistants too. #5 - Gregg felt the loss of Sean Taylor just as much as anyone on the team. He'll be in a position to relate to the players on a personal level. Chemistry between coaches and players cannot possibly be any better than with GW.

I'm still not sure how any of those things make him the sure fire lock to be the coach to lead us for the near and far future.

One mans trash is another mans treasure. Probably a large contributor to Daniel Snyders success. Unfortunately this philosophy hasn't translated well for him in the NFL. That being said, I'm willing to see what Fassel has to offer. I am not ready to say that he is a worse choice than Gregg Williams. This was an over-emotional year in a lot of respects, and I appreciate the fact that Snyder didn't pull the trigger too quick and name GW the head coach simply for continuity purposes and the fact that some players thought he would be the best choice as Gibbs successor. I'd rather he take the time, listen to those smart guys on the payroll who have "influence" on the matter, and make the decision that best suits the team for the long run. If that means sacrificing some "continuity" then so be it. I'd rather go through some more growing pains for the short term and get it right, than go with the "popular" choice for the sake of continuity. |

The ONE thing we have lacked since DS bought the team is continuity. So to give that up now -- for what, another spin on the Snyder merry-go-round? --just has to give you a queasy feeling. Honestly, Matty and others, don't you feel just a tad ill? |

Not every coodinator w/ good press works out - and like QB's, there is a lot of luck involved. Tomlin and Payton are the exception, not the rule. Just 'cause someone is an up and comer doesn't mean they're good.

In a nut shell, the results cant get much worse than the past 15 years so try a new direction and see what happens. Its not like a new young coach would be messing a championship dynasty. |
